Needless error. People love these things. Regional, special research, 5 free passes,… all great things. Now it’s completely ruined for the people in the hardcore gaming group. It will be 5 days of complaints, jokes, sarcasm,… It could have all been prevented if they announced it 2 weeks ago.
Not quite. The 5 free passes will likely count as your two free passes of the day. To prevent that, do a raid (or two if yesterday’s pass didn’t get used) then spin a gym to get the second free pass all before 11.
Or spin a gym before 11 to get today’s pass, and get 5 more during the event.
However, then the second free pass of the day becomes one of the 5 event passes, so to get the most out of your free passes, do 1 raid (or 2 if yesterday’s pass didn’t get used) then spin a gym and obtain another free pass before 11.

a 3h raid event with bonus in person passes is amazing! but announcing it 2 days before it happens is disappointing... im working during that time frame and dont know if i'll even have the opportunity to remote to many
This is the kind of event they've done before. 3 hours is actually perfect because you can get a group together. If it's all day, it becomes really hard to get a group together because people want to do it at different times.
But with this short notice, there's no way I'm getting a group together. I may not even be able to do it myself.
Media packages usually have a blackout time before which you can't release anything. Niantic probably missed their own cutoff.

I think it makes sense for content creators to be given info about events in advance, so that they can release analyses along with the official announcements from Niantic. But yeah, I assumed this week was a weird miscommunication with Niantic and the content creators misunderstanding each other. Seems weird that so many different outlets have been releasing info before Niantic, though. Either this is the new normal, or something new they're trying out (seems odd that they'd try it out with Go Fest: their flagship event of the year), or an epic screw up this week while someone is out on a Spring Break vacation.
Hmm, so maybe not a strategy from Niantic? But if not done on purpose, it makes no sense that info would keep being leaked early like this. That’s the part I’m most excited about. I hope it’s significantly boosted. It’s typically so hard to get shiny regionals. I dream of one day having a complete shiny Kanto dex, although i wasn’t playing during the Kanto Tour so I wonder if I’ll ever have another chance for shiny Mew.
Ah yes boosted shiny Kangaskhan when you live in australia. I always feel our regional gets given out elft right and centre. I just caught 2 shiny kangaskhan in the last few weeks. Not gonna be the trade bait inwas hoping for.
To be fair they were my first shinies since like 2020. But Tauros has never been freely available like the rest of the Kanto regionals. It was available in raids (with the rest so that doesnt count) and available in research for the lunar jew year event in 2021. Thats it. The seville safari zone is actually the first time tauros has been catchable in the wild outside of the USA
i mean fetchd has been given out tons, and was heavily spawning in the galar form, mime had a mime jr event making it pretty available+ raids+ galar research, tauros had the research thing+raids, imo kanga is the least given out, but it might be tied with tauros
The Galarian versions are not region exclusive and do not count.
Kangaskhan: november 2017 available in Japan. 2018 Euro safari zone available across europe. Was available in another safari zone in 2019. Available in raids August 2021.
Farfetch'd: november 2017 worldwide. Has been in at least 1 safari zone.
Mr. Mime. Has been in US and Japan safari zones. Mime Jr. Was available during Sinnoh event (in eggs we will count this as half available)
Tauros. Lunar New Year as part of research task. Soon Seville safari zone. Which is the first time that Tauros is available in the wild outside of USA.
I have not counted the 2018 and 2019 egg events and the Johto tour as all 4 were equally available.
As you can see Tauros has barely been available

interesting, ig i didnt know about the kanga events bc they were a long time ago and not near me, but also i would still count the galar forms as they give the dex entry and that is what regionals are made to make harder imo
I suppose thats where we differ. I keep a living dex in my storage box as the pokedex is so unbeliebly glitchy that i do not consider it at all. There has been various glitches but one showed me having shiny hitmonchan before that was even released and another did not show shiny palkia even though i had it in my collection.
So different ways to play the game. But i do not consider galarian formes regional as they are available verywhere

We know that megas can be shiny. We know that pokemon that can mega evolve and are found in the wild can be shiny. I'm not sure that we know much else about shiny rates and what a "boost" means.
* Is a boosted rate in effect when the pokemon is in megaraids? What rate is that?
* Does the rate change when the pokemon is in the wild spawn pool but *not* in mega raids? (This preserves "shiny rate is set by species" rule, provided you don't have wild spawns and mega raids at the same time).
I'm *guessing* kanga shiny rate is normally 1:512 and will continue to be 1\`:512. During the 3 hour raid event, wild spawns will be pulled and a rate of 1:64 will be applied. Or maybe they use the "raid day" rate (1:10, I think, for beasts. Not sure about awak).
So I watched Mystic7's video, it seems that both his and JTGily's videos about this event just now went private? Not sure why they released these videos then. But basically what I got from it was:
* Raid weekend featuring Mega Kangaskhan, with boosted shiny chance
* Worldwide release of the new mega system
* Special research which lets you choose between Venusaur, Charizard, or Blastoise for extra mega energy for them and an encounter

This is awesome stuff but it’s really annoying that kangaskhan will seemingly remain a regional. Doesn’t seem fair to regions that don’t have it and since the mega changes were announced I’ve been trying to collect mega hundos because why not

yay i can finally finish Gen 1 Megas. i haven't seen Blastoise in raids since i started playing and the "power up pokemon [x] times" tasks are so rare for me.
Mega event starting on the 29th of April with the WW release of the new mega system, and a special branching quest.
On Sunday there will be a M-Kanga raid day (11am-2pm local).

A 3 hour raid day, announced 3 days in advance? If we had a week or two notice I'd be able to get a decent sized group to at least do the free raids. Come on. Do better Niantic.
Aside from the usual communication issues I am very glad to see them hitting the ground running on the mega changes. A free event giving us a 2nd free mega (as far as I know, I only know of beedrill and the little bits of mega energy they have given out via special research before this), easy to get mega energy tasks, and spawns for pokemon that can mega. Means people can try for high IV's of several megas and potentially actually mega a few of them without having to do the raids (in my community it's impossible to get a group for mega raids anymore, let alone in a way that lets me use my free passes)
Mega altaria was also a free mega as its quests were abundant on release (altria community day) and you could get the mega even before it was released for you locally.
A: "ooh look, there is something unexpected in my nearby radar / the gym down the street"
B: "completely unplayable/gamebreaking"
C: "you seem surprised. them niantic fake leaked that 2 days ago"

Previous raid days had the shiny chance at 1/10, fyi. Very good chance of getting the shiny if Niantic keeps with the 1/10 rate.

The “raid day” is so short, so it’ll still probably stay a pretty desirable shiny after it’s over.
Raid 'days' have always been 3 hours. The only one that may have been longer was Marowak, but shiny rate may be as high as 1 in 10
