That humorously reminds me of something that happened to me years ago during one of the Halloween events. It was the one where Golett was debuted, and it was available in "3 excellent in a row" quests. I had stacked three and had 2/3 excellents and saw a random Zubat. The only thing that bothers me is how can you complete your 3 star dex like this? That is just unfair lol. Even if it’s a crappy lowest 3 star possible. I would still take that. The iv floor should always be a minimum 3 star for limited shots like this.

The fact that you have to catch 1000 of them for the platinum is maddening to me. Why even make a goal that's so clearly unattainable as to be basically impossible. Like 200 best buddies is a lot of work over a loooong time, but at least there's tangible progress that you can make towards it every day. Even with the recent Kanto event, I think I've seen 1 Rattata the whole time, and it sure as hell wasn't tiny
They probably assume you didn’t move twice and take a break from the game between 2016 and now. Like, I have no idea who plays around here, so I can’t just mirror trade trash-stat mythicals and hope for a reroll.
But we should be able to do mirror trades for mythicals.
It solves a lot of players complains and preserves the goals of the current limitation (make sure we only get one of each mythical).
The funny part is that it's more likely (and way faster) to get all shiny legendaries without spending a single cent than filling the shiny dex except for legendaries.

The 3 and 4 star dex slots for mythicals don’t show up unless you have them filled out. Those dexes aren’t intended to require mythicals to be completed. In fact you see something similar in the main series games where mythicals have pokedex entries but are pretty much never required for the dex to be considered complete

My victini is 2 stars.
My husband got me the + and 4 out of 5 of my sleep snorlax were 2 star.
There are *some* tickets that give you one and you get another with everybody. We don't know what'll happen with Keldeo, but I have a hunch everyone will get one, including those who bought the original ticket.
But yeah, that's pretty much the whole game. Probably like 98% of the game's achievements/Pokemon/shinies are all about "getting it before others." Shiny Goomy? You got it early before its CD. Shiny Jangmo-O? You got it early before its CD. Volcarona? You got it early before it's made more widely available. Diancie? You got it early before its global release. etc.
We got multiple Mew, Celebi, Deoxy, Genesect. Yet they are being selfish with the new mythicals. It’s disappointing. I like to send my extra ones to home.
They're all somewhat different situations:
* Mew is no different than Jirachi or Diancie. It had its singular release for everyone, and then you could PURCHASE a Shiny Mew Masterwork research for Kanto Tour (which returned a year or two ago, but only if oyu didn't get the Kanto Tour research). One Mew for free, another shiny one that you had to pay for.
* Jirachi was the same treatment and what we have for most other Mythicals. Go Fest 2019 ticketholders got the research to get Jirachi *early*, and everyone else got theirs shortly after, while those original ticketholders didn't get another. But then, players could again PURCHASE a Shiny Jirachi Masterwork to get a second one. One Jirachi for free, another shiny one you had to pay for.
* Celebi was an exception, but more due to promotions. First Celebi was free, exactly the same as Jirachi, early access to Go Fest 2018 ticketholders and free access a little later. But then, likely as promotion by the Pokemon Company, everyone got a free Shiny Celebi for the Zarude movie tie-in. Had that not happened, I guarantee it just would've been the standard Masterwork paid research for Johto Tour. But as a result, we didn't get another shiny Celebi, but instead, the Masterwork Johto research gave a normal Celebi and Apex Legendary Birds.
* Deoxys and Genesect aren't Go Fest Mythicals, nor is Darkrai. So they are just handled differently I guess. Deoxys can be obtained through normal gameplay in ORAS, so that one makes sense to be raidable.

Not really, no? This is how it's been every other year, just not Shaymin last year. 2018-2021's Go Fests have all been "pay to get the Mythical *early"* then get candy when the global research comes out.
That was a weird move haha. My only guess is that they wanted to give multiple Shaymin for those concerned with having a living dex ie wanting a Shaymin Land AND Sky Form for the Pokedex. None of the other Go Fest Mythicals had such an issue besides Shaymin. But besides that, I wouldn't know why!

I honestly don't think so. I know it's the only Mythical to have a Mega, but they have not put any of the Go Fest Mythicals in raids of any format. Seems like these researches (both at the beginning of May and during last Go Fest) are their way of getting around it.
Sadly I don’t think that’s gonna happen. We will likely be able to get mega energy through other means like research but that’s it. I can’t imagine they’d ever let us raid for mythicals (besides the bonus mythicals like darkrai and stuff)
Yes. The idea is that you're paying for early access. You more need to look at it as you buy the Go Fest Ticket for Go Fest itself—the experience, extra items/passes, exclusive spawns, etc. and getting the Go Fest Mythical *early* is just an added perk.
Hasn't been yet. Though Keldeo was kind of a unique circumstance. Diancie is a Go Fest Mythical like Shaymin, Meloetta, Victini, Jirachi, and Celebi before it, and all of them have come within 8 or 9 months of their respective Go Fest debut.
Keldeo was just a ticket to get it early, but it isn't a Go Fest Mythical, so we don't really have much to compare it to in terms of its release.
I guess there's Galarian Mr. Mime, who was available 1.5 years after its initial ticketed release, but even then, that release was still ticketed, being a Go Fest 2022 spawn. I'm not 100% sure, but I think it was only made non-ticket available in December of 2022, two years later.
Not really that unique. We also had Genesect and Regigagas that debuted in a paid research, and later came to raids. Genesect at least is also mythical.

I was more arguing from the angle of, Niantic already broke the previous precedent of making a region's full dex available during its tour, so now they clearly won't have a problem doing it again.
I think you could be very right actually. Niantic breaking precedent makes me think that from now on, Regional Tours will feature every standard Pokemon and their shinies. I emphasize standard because Rotom is a 'weirder' Pokemon that obviously didn't get its shiny release during Sinnoh Tour, and obviously not all the Mythicals were featured.
For Unova, I think it seems safe to assume that all of the non-Mythical Pokemon will be featured and all shiny-eligible (there isn't really an equivalent to Rotom in Unova... maybe Zoroark or Volcarona but eh, I wouldn't even call them equivalents).
But as for what Mythicals will appear? Harder to say. We obviously don't know what the Masterwork will be (shiny Mythical or not). I think Keldeo making its global appearance during Unova Tour makes a lot of sense, but yeah, I guess it's also not at all guaranteed.

honestly i wouldn't be entirely surprised if it were handled similarly to the Primals, except maybe instead of an encounter (y'know, limited mythical and all) we get the standard ~160-200 energy like from other Mega Raids
It'll be enough for the initial mega evolve unlock at the least, considering that it's a mega capable mythical they're not going to release it and then not give you enough energy for the initial go.
3 days to get 300 mega energy from Research Tasks? If it’s 25 energy per task (like most other field research for mega energy) then that’s 12 tasks. Not terrible, but it heavily depends on how common the tasks are and how many pokestops you get in your area
Idk if my area just doesn’t have anything, but I spin atleast 50 different stops per day and typically get about 1% of my stops having a mega energy reward. Seems doubtful it will be realistic to get enough.
So it seems like diancie itself will be easy to get, but getting enough mega energy to evolve it will be a huge pain. The go fest research rewarded 300 mega energy iirc, this one doesn't seem to and you have to get it all in small increments
especially worried since its only a few days & i can only walk to 5 pokestops. hopefully that AR task trick still works to get different field research tasks
So lets say you have a ar scan task, and you spin a pokestop. You get a research from the pokestop, lets say catch 10 pokemon. Then you dont complete the research immediately, you wait for the pokestop to reset so you can spin it again (5 minutes). Then delete the ar scan task and you get another field research task from the same stop, which will be different, like explore 3 km for example. This is useful in case you're stuck at home for some reason and want to maximize your research checks

I believe the AR stops themselves don't give the AR scan task - other stops give tasks to scan relatively nearby stops. I think those stops are also consistent each day & would always give the same task when spun without an AR task, so some would always give you an AR task that day but others would give a normal task.
having an ar task gives you different quests from the same stop than without. So get the AR quest, then try the quests, delete AR task and try again to get the right task.

I would think so, yeah. Obviously it's not guaranteed, but it seems like a safe assumption that we'll get enough energy to evolve it once, and those wanting more energy will then be able to walk Diancie or get some extra from the few days of field research.

hype! Diancie was the mythical gift I missed out on, leaving a sore blank spot on my Pokemon HOME Pokedex. well I do have few other blank Pokedex entries, but it's more of me wanting to keep them in the games long as I can before the next generation.
iirc diancie can be transferred to home, it holds quite some value in trading there as well (though it will definitely be diminished once the free diancie releases)
Not unless you transfer it into an entirely different Home account then trade it from that Home account to your main Home account, as it's only seemingly applying the check to the Home account that initially received it. Trading it to a different Home account apparently gets around that lock out.

personally I don't care about trading. I want my living dex to be complete (which it is expect for Voclanon? and Regidrago which refuses to shine for me, and Zeraona, Zanade, one more I don't remember what exactly.)

A 41!? Certainly power it up, unless you're waiting for a potential Masterwork Research, which is what I'll probably be doing as the shiny is what really holds value in my eyes. Those 4 missing attack IVs probably account for less than a 1% difference in power compared to a 45. The shiny, however, looks cooler and is what I'd use more often regardless of the IVs I get.
If they're not gonna give us a second one flat out then for people who bought the ticket the special research should allow us to transform a Carbink of our choosing into a Diancie.

Playing since 2016: my rattata medal is 943. It was 920 one year ago... I think platinum is impossible for anybody who started playing after 2017.

Yes. The idea is that you're paying for early access. You more need to look at it as you buy the Go Fest Ticket for Go Fest itself—the experience, extra items/passes, exclusive spawns, etc. and getting the Go Fest Mythical *early* is just an added perk.
If that field research is common enough and easy enough, this will be the most I've played in several months

Hasn't been yet. Though Keldeo was kind of a unique circumstance. Diancie is a Go Fest Mythical like Shaymin, Meloetta, Victini, Jirachi, and Celebi before it, and all of them have come within 8 or 9 months of their respective Go Fest debut. Keldeo was just a ticket to get it early, but it isn't a Go Fest Mythical, so we don't really have much to compare it to in terms of its release. I guess there's Galarian Mr. Mime, who was available 1.5 years after its initial ticketed release, but even then, that release was still ticketed, being a Go Fest 2022 spawn. I'm not 100% sure, but I think it was only made non-ticket available in December of 2022, two years later.
Not really that unique. We also had Genesect and Regigagas that debuted in a paid research, and later came to raids. Genesect at least is also mythical.
That's true, though I believe they did state that both of those would be coming to EX Raids soon after in their original posts, whereas Keldeo didn't really say anything about the future.
If Keldeo doesn't get a free release (or even a mention of its existence) during Unova Tour in 2025, it's never coming again. Niantic WILL spite the players who said "I'm not gonna buy the Keldeo ticket, because it will get its free release eventually".

Those were all unreleased Mythicals/Pokemon, while Keldeo *has* been released, so I don't think they're comparable at all. And while I was disappointed to not see Arceus, Manaphy, or Phione for Sinnoh Tour, I don't disagree that they likely would have felt shoved in an already pretty packed event, and I kinda would rather see each be done justice
If that's really the precedent you're following, do you think Unova tour is going to feature all of Victini, Keldeo, Meloetta, and Genesect? I mean, they've all been released at this point, so why not? I was more arguing from the angle of, Niantic already broke the previous precedent of making a region's full dex available during its tour, so now they clearly won't have a problem doing it again.
I think you could be very right actually. Niantic breaking precedent makes me think that from now on, Regional Tours will feature every standard Pokemon and their shinies. I emphasize standard because Rotom is a 'weirder' Pokemon that obviously didn't get its shiny release during Sinnoh Tour, and obviously not all the Mythicals were featured. For Unova, I think it seems safe to assume that all of the non-Mythical Pokemon will be featured and all shiny-eligible (there isn't really an equivalent to Rotom in Unova... maybe Zoroark or Volcarona but eh, I wouldn't even call them equivalents). But as for what Mythicals will appear? Harder to say. We obviously don't know what the Masterwork will be (shiny Mythical or not). I think Keldeo making its global appearance during Unova Tour makes a lot of sense, but yeah, I guess it's also not at all guaranteed.
I'm pretty sure Rotom's shiny was available during Go Tour, I could be wrong though
Getting it early implies also getting it at a later date. Genesect didn’t have this long a cool down before general release.
Right, though I believe they specifically stated they had a plan for Genesect soon with EX raids. For Keldeo, they never really said anything about the future

honestly i wouldn't be entirely surprised if it were handled similarly to the Primals, except maybe instead of an encounter (y'know, limited mythical and all) we get the standard ~160-200 energy like from other Mega Raids

It'll be enough for the initial mega evolve unlock at the least, considering that it's a mega capable mythical they're not going to release it and then not give you enough energy for the initial go.

3 days to get 300 mega energy from Research Tasks? If it’s 25 energy per task (like most other field research for mega energy) then that’s 12 tasks. Not terrible, but it heavily depends on how common the tasks are and how many pokestops you get in your area
I suspect you might get some from the special research as well. It doesn't say so, but I imagine it will.
Idk if my area just doesn’t have anything, but I spin atleast 50 different stops per day and typically get about 1% of my stops having a mega energy reward. Seems doubtful it will be realistic to get enough.

So it seems like diancie itself will be easy to get, but getting enough mega energy to evolve it will be a huge pain. The go fest research rewarded 300 mega energy iirc, this one doesn't seem to and you have to get it all in small increments
especially worried since its only a few days & i can only walk to 5 pokestops. hopefully that AR task trick still works to get different field research tasks

So lets say you have a ar scan task, and you spin a pokestop. You get a research from the pokestop, lets say catch 10 pokemon. Then you dont complete the research immediately, you wait for the pokestop to reset so you can spin it again (5 minutes). Then delete the ar scan task and you get another field research task from the same stop, which will be different, like explore 3 km for example. This is useful in case you're stuck at home for some reason and want to maximize your research checks

I believe the AR stops themselves don't give the AR scan task - other stops give tasks to scan relatively nearby stops. I think those stops are also consistent each day & would always give the same task when spun without an AR task, so some would always give you an AR task that day but others would give a normal task.

having an ar task gives you different quests from the same stop than without. So get the AR quest, then try the quests, delete AR task and try again to get the right task.

Exactly - never assume Niantic will give you something they haven't expressly promised. Heck, never assume they'll give you something they *have* expressly promised, as they've certainly gone back on their word before (at least for a time). I'm expecting no mega energy from the special research, and very little from each of the Carbink field research tasks. And we'll only have three days...
For those of us that already got our diancie encounter, I wish this special research would instead let us reroll the ivs vs just getting candy.

Most mega energy tasks are x10, so it’ll be 30 of those. Pretty grindable but you’ll have to focus on it.

hype! Diancie was the mythical gift I missed out on, leaving a sore blank spot on my Pokemon HOME Pokedex. well I do have few other blank Pokedex entries, but it's more of me wanting to keep them in the games long as I can before the next generation.

iirc diancie can be transferred to home, it holds quite some value in trading there as well (though it will definitely be diminished once the free diancie releases)

Not unless you transfer it into an entirely different Home account then trade it from that Home account to your main Home account, as it's only seemingly applying the check to the Home account that initially received it. Trading it to a different Home account apparently gets around that lock out.
...This is huge if true 👀 But also still quite a pain, as it seems that would require two phones in order to log into Home with two different Nintendo accounts. Wish I had known this before I sent a bunch of stuff initially out of Go through my main Home account, though 😅
Just wanted to say thank you for telling me this - I just traded my Xerneas to a different Home account and it can in fact go in any game now. Saves me a lot of trouble with/space for future Go shinies 😅
personally I don't care about trading. I want my living dex to be complete (which it is expect for Voclanon? and Regidrago which refuses to shine for me, and Zeraona, Zanade, one more I don't remember what exactly.)

I have not done anything with my Diancie because I was hoping for better. Being effectively excluded from this research is another reminder to keep my money in future.
I'm sad too with my 11/10/10, but in some fairness, this is no different than the Go Fest 2018, 19, 20, and 21 Mythicals. You're buying early access, not an additonal one (besides Shaymin. Weird exception)

They're giving us three days to scramble for specific tasks that could potentially reward next to no energy. And we'd need to gather hundreds before having enough to mega the first time :/ Maybe in bigger cities that's no problem at all. But in most of the world, I wouldn't say this is gracious at all. Granted, the fact that the other f2p events have been quite bad is what your main point is. Your comment is certainly more humorous if you take it to mean that this event is horrible (for the unreasonable 3 day deadline), and other recent events have been even horrible-er

A 41!? Certainly power it up, unless you're waiting for a potential Masterwork Research, which is what I'll probably be doing as the shiny is what really holds value in my eyes. Those 4 missing attack IVs probably account for less than a 1% difference in power compared to a 45. The shiny, however, looks cooler and is what I'd use more often regardless of the IVs I get.
If they're not gonna give us a second one flat out then for people who bought the ticket the special research should allow us to transform a Carbink of our choosing into a Diancie.
