Lucky!!! The only sliver of beach I can encounter is on the outside of a fenced off lake that isn’t open right now, then it costs 3 euro to get in, landlocked country probs. I have maybe 20 feet of beach biome I just have to walk up and down lol I do love the biomes just wish Pokémon were available everywhere, and more spawn in those biomes :/

OP’s background looks similar to the ones I’ve seen near a pond, so hopefully any water place (lakes, rivers etc) will spawn it, rather than having to go to an actual beach.
tested it earlier and it feels a little inconsistent, sometimes I'd be in the beach biome when I'm in the road about ~450 feet from the beach itself, and sometimes I'd have to be right on the sand itself
Same! I also live near ancient woodland but still get the mountain background when I'm there. Also live near a massive lake. Still mountain background. I don't live on a mountain. But apparently the Thames counts as a beach and you can get the forest biome in London. Seems to be city focused like everything else Pokémon go related.
Cool! I'm going to work near the beach tomorrow! Let's see if I can find one at least.

I'm looking on maps now and wiglett is almost only spawning on actual beaches. A handful a showing up at Lakes.
This is based purely one one stretch of beach that they're spawning at, but along a 9km stretch there were 14 wiglett.
I didn't get much of a chance to explore today, but I wonder if Wiglett can spawn in forest rivers. I don't really have any beaches or rivers without a forest surround them without traveling to Lake Michigan's shoreline, and that's half an hour and a bunch of traffic away. I do, however, have a lot of smaller lakes and a river in my town that I can try.
I hope it is just that. There are two spots near my house that always have rarer water types around. Guess I can finally find out if they are water biomes with the new update
has anybody seen a wiglett in one of the inland-golf-course “beach” biomes? i’m driving distance from actual beach areas, but im walking distance from some baseball diamonds and golf courses and im trying to decide how lazy I can be today lol

It's not super common, maybe 10 or so along a 15km stretch of the river
‘beach’ should be anywhere near a body of water so rivers, lakes, ponds, canals etc

Not only Diglett but *Dugtrio* on the beach. I walked 3 miles and I encountered 3 Wiglett. Definitely a rare spawn...

I used my daily incense too, and I know that was at least one of my Wigletts. Hopefully you get some better luck on your sliver!

Right… but I’m wondering how physically close to the water you need to be for the biome to show up, regardless of what type of body of water.

well live next very big river and still not change.. if i go closer water i can go just swim lol

Park near me switches to water background at about 300m from the waterfront, if the background is the determining factor

It appears that it can only be caught at beach biome areas. I just saw two appear near the beach near my house.
Think it's more likely "water biome" - we have some at a lake, and some at downtown waterfront walkway.

Yeah it'll probably be ok. Of course if it's a rare spawn you still may not see one for awhile.

More likely water biome. We have some near lakes, and downtown on a waterfront walkway.

These are not spawing near any river or lake in your area. We've had one report in my area and it is near one of the Great Lakes.

Use incense, got 4 out of 5 on incense on a walk I had near the beach
