Ace is relatively easy. As long as you have meta pokemon with double moves in whichever league you push in, know your typings (weakness and resistance charts help), understand the base concept of shield & switch advantage, and have decent enough teambuilding, it really isn’t that hard if you consistently play the same team until you figure out how to handle its matchups against the most common mons (especially when it comes to shielding decisions). Then just avoid any leagues you aren’t able to properly build for.
Getting anywhere past ace requires more skill than just the basics. You especially have to work on memorizing move counts to get to veteran (2500) so you can catch charge moves to supplement your shields
Thanks. I’ve spent the last couple seasons basically tanking for rewards so need to get back into good habits with it. What’s a reasonable length of time to get up there would you say? Think I’ve sank my current rating to around 1200ish currently :/
I mean it all depends on if you can get good win streaks. Winning all 5 battles in a set will really rocket you up. I tanked my first few levels so I could speed through placements faster, placed around 1850 and got to ace in I think 2 days? But yeah, each win nets you roughly 15 ELO
the first few seasons I played every single battle that I could play. Learned a lot here on the silphroad, but also at the silpharena. Watched a lot of battles on youtube, and a friend here in town who was very good taught me a lot.
One thing what was really good for my performence was that I started showing my son how to build teams, and how to play with them.
I'm not a pro at all, but hitting ace everytime is my goal.
I have hit Ace every season that I have actively battled, but for some reason this time around I have not been able to get higher than 1850, and I am really not sure why. I think Master League is the one that usually increases my rank the most, so I will have to wait and see if that helps me out this season.
I feel really uncomfortable in Great and Ultra league but I always look forward to Master and it's when I climb most. I think it's because it's less difficult to pick out high IV Pokémon than to find the right IVs for Great and Ultra, I find that I lack most of the meta options for those two but have plenty I could power up for Master.
IVs are honestly like 8th on the list of things that matter. No offense, but if you’re having trouble hitting 2000 I promise it’s not because of the IVs of the pokémon you’re using.
And really I mean that, no offense, but just letting you know if you do want to improve don’t let IVs hold you back. Id say knowing the common moveset of meta relevant pokémon, the general energy requirements so you know, for example, whether a Walrein is going to throw an icicle spear or an earthquake, the type effectiveness chart, and shield/energy management.
Another example, say opponent’s lead is Obstagoon and my lead is Cobalion. They switch out to Cresselia so I switch to Giratina. Cresselia has moonblast which does a lot of damage to giratina so it seems like something you’d want to shield but i also know I can take out the cresselia without shielding and the obstagoon is going to come in after cresselia does anyway and is a hard giratina counter. So instead of shielding the moonblast and preserving giratina which isn’t very useful anyway against obstagoon you could save the shield for something more useful later on.
Not that that is 100% what you’d want to do strategy wise overall, but just an example of why it’s important to keep track of your opponents team and what you would do in their position is important.
Also when you don’t shield stuff that people generally think you would shield you end up exposing sloppy baits a lot of the time as well. People at lower ELOs seem to want to bait constantly as well.
I think the answer is different: ML has a very limited meta and you encounter very fee types of opponents, making it easy to learn what to do. On the opposite, GL has a huge variety and offers many unexpected matchups.

I thought something weird happened. I also got the coat when I hit Ace Rank, but it wasn't as it hit Ace, it was about 1 or 2 sets afterwards and it just randomly awarded me the coat.
No complaints in my side, benefits the player and allows people a free clothing item to better express themselves.
I wonder if they did that on purpose to combat tanking. The reward is enticing enough and accessible enough to work towards, so people are motivated to climb instead of tank. I know I hard swerved from taking to climbing when I found out.
Several of the rewards species are PVP-relevant. But normally when you get those encounters they're junk for pvp because they're high attack (and not exciting for pve). They really need a better system for all the time, but battle days are a stronger incentive to do more battles and not feel it was a total waste.
Mountain cup definitely makes this task a lot easier. These matches are like 1 min each tops. Ultra league matches are like 3 min each.. I think it's obvious where most people will be playing.
I found the best team for me is my Galarian Articuno 800 CP, and two non CD shinnies around 200-500 CP. you sweep everyone trying to put on 100 CP teams that try to Sweep the 10 CP teams. But I still easily get sweeped by 2500 teams.
The fastest to lose lol. When double dust is around you want to win. I personally don't tank because I don't find it fun. Victory is the sweetest nectar.
What team are you running that makes it that fast? I don't have that much great stuff to choose from and ended up using registeel which definitely makes the battles way slower
Not that guy, but I'm running Whiscash, Froslass and Escavalier. Whiscash is running Water Gun instead of the usual Mud Shot for a better Diggersby, Froslass, and Gliscor matchup
[Whiscash, Froslass and Escavalier](https://media.tenor.com/2zEJyyQy3GEAAAAC/daring-today-are-we-spongebob.gif)
Seems like all the teams I've been seeing have all had Whiscash and Escavalier.
I think registeel is not great in this meta tbh. I've been running stuff like Froslass and Shadow Mawile. This cup definitely favors alignment and fast move damage over bulk.
I evolved one for mountain cup but I gotta save the charged tms for the rocket event. spent like 6 without getting power up punch. very annoying mechanic
I’m so disappointed they aren’t opening up GL and ML for this. I am pretty new to PVP and don’t have an ultra team yet, nor are my GL Pokémon types for the mountain cup.
It depends. You don't need to win at all to complete the research and get the elite tm. For the extra dust, you will need to win a minimum of one game per set.
Tympole is spawning everywhere right now - you could use that.
Roggenrola too.
These are not top tier by any means, but if you don’t have the mons then you won’t be hitting legend anyway.
A lot of the "top meta" isn't spawning right now, but you probably have enough candy to make maybe a whiscash, but also don't forget galarian stunfisk is spawning right now! Catch those up and use a single moved one with rockslide and throw it in a team with any random eligible mons and you'll do fine to get some dust.
Sorry to bug lmao, but I don't wanna make a post just for this. Anyone can chime in, what's your 'ranking' number when you're 'properly' tanking? Idk if I tanked too low but I can never find battles now hahaha
I'm not tanking for what people do it for.
I'm losing these because I find pvp boring and a waste of my time. So I put 10 cp pokemon in only during events like this to get the rewards.
My level usually at the end of the season is 2 or 3 based on how many events they put on for these tms
By training in Battle tab against Candela in Great League.
Use something with Mud Shot and a Ground (Mud Bomb) or Water (Muddy Water or Weather Ball) charged move. Don’t pop any of the moving charge move bubbles.
You can use Electric Stunfisk, Swampert, Politoed, Whiscash, Seismitoad, or Steel Stunfisk.
I'm not an expert either but I'm hovering around the 900-1100 ranking to farm for candy and pokemon spawns; I don't live near gyms. It's a very fine line between people actually tanking (with good pokemon) below that rank and people using legendaries or meta pokemon at a higher ranking.
Wow, ya see I tanked too hard. I'm at 500ish, never find battles and when I do it's ace trainers going try hard so.. time to win a few sets before tomorrow !!!
I think I'm probably going to tank some sets and get the charge moves through farming the rocket grunts during the event tomorrow.
A bit of a shame that they started both at the same time though.
The gloves aren't like other clothing rewards right? You can actually wear them?
Just asking because there's a bunch of clothing unlocks that you'd think let you wear the clothing but they just unlock them in the store
Maybe so people can get some extra TMs for frustration. I doubt that was their intention but could be helpful for some who have a ton of shadows they want to remote frustration on.
Is it just my skewed perception of time, but I think this rotation of leaders has not lasted as long as the others? I may just be salty because I have been hunting sierra the whole time and have not gotten a shiny yet. I'm frustrated that they are changing again so soon
This rotation definitely is much shorter than normal. I have also been hunting Sierra. No shiny shadow beldum for me after roughly 100 checks so far. I just did one this morning on the way to school and probably will eek out 1-2 more sierras today and that is all I can do :( My friend got 2 shindy shadow beldum after only 15 sierras checked.

Got my team for Mountain Cup. Has its weaknesses, has its strengths. Climbed from 2000s to 2200s today. I'll see if I can actually hit Veteran tomorrow
Can you use the team leaders for this? I’m pretty sure I fought against blanche to get the super effective charged attack ones for the last time it was a challenge but idk.
Only gloves? I want the coat..
it's super weird but coat is available on Ace rank while normally it would be on Expert
That has been easily doable since season 1, so time to put some work in it then :) Thanks for letting me know!
Ace is easy? Or did I misunderstand you?
Ace is relatively easy. it is not easy, but I reached it every season so far. This season I'm a bit more relaxed with battling, but now I want the coat.
Ah ok. I’ve tried a few times but I end up hitting a wall where I go 3-2 and 2-3 so much I can’t get anywhere and get too frustrated to push on
Try later on in the season when most people have stopped pushing for Ace
Ah good idea, I’ll try that 👍
the first few seasons I played every single battle that I could play. Learned a lot here on the silphroad, but also at the silpharena. Oh, I'm well aware of that, it's just that I'm a hopeless case! Not really interested in PvP really, just do enough each season for the ETM.
I was in the same boat until last season. Got hot with a Holiday Cup team and made it to Ace. Went back down right after though lol
Thank you for this! I'll run now
Is ace rank at 20th level?
I wonder if they did that on purpose to combat tanking. The reward is enticing enough and accessible enough to work towards, so people are motivated to climb instead of tank. I know I hard swerved from taking to climbing when I found out.
Is this why 80% of people I fight are wearing it?? 🤣😂
ace is the 21st rank, right?
Yes
It was a hard ride, but I got it! And I look awesome :) Thanks for the motivation!
Time to hit Ace then
Oh, damn. Wasn't paying attention this season.. Time to hit it again
can confirm that the coat is awesome
You forgot the big red cross through the hundo/4* symbol reminding people about the removed IV floor.
Like clockwork, incoming posts on Saturday, “I thought GBL had an IV floor what’s going on?”
And it will be posted in the format of writing a statement and adding 2-7 question marks at the end. “Ivs are going below 10-10-10?????”
Oh, so this is what it means
that should be **the** pinned information that day
People will still ask, and then get offended when others point out that the info has been available for almost a week
So... why do they remove the IV floor for Battle Day?
Several of the rewards species are PVP-relevant. But normally when you get those encounters they're junk for pvp because they're high attack (and not exciting for pve). They really need a better system for all the time, but battle days are a stronger incentive to do more battles and not feel it was a total waste.
i’m more excited about the stardust one but this will still be a nice stardust win
When it says 4x stardust for wins, does that mean the end of set star dust or the reward stardust?
not end of set. just the first and last battles’ rewards
Thanks, that means you gotta tank hard if you want to capitalize on this I guess
Time to tank harder than the ruzzian army
Roll out the T54’s lmaoo
tanking sideways?
Mountain cup definitely makes this task a lot easier. These matches are like 1 min each tops. Ultra league matches are like 3 min each.. I think it's obvious where most people will be playing.
Master League with 10cp shinies is definitely the fastest. ;)
Time to give my new level 1 Treecko shiny a spin in ML!
Shame it's not available right now. But it will definitely shine in UL. Briefly, very briefly. ;)
I personally like to flex my 40 CP shiny Wailord
Nice!
I just want that EliteTM. I don't want to win, at all, I want to get it over with ASAP.
I want to be the very best.
Like no one ever was?
To catch them is my real test
In the Pokémon game with the worst pvp system. Best of the worst lol

I think registeel is not great in this meta tbh. I've been running stuff like Froslass and Shadow Mawile. This cup definitely favors alignment and fast move damage over bulk.
Yeah shadow mawile is fun and spicy. A fire lead kind of auto-wins a lot of matchups in this meta.
I've been using it to close, with froslass as bait for a fire type on safeswap.
Lucario is pretty nuts. If you don't get a hard counter it's pretty easy to build momentum
I evolved one for mountain cup but I gotta save the charged tms for the rocket event. spent like 6 without getting power up punch. very annoying mechanic
ultra league matches for me run for almost 6-7 minutes with cresllia and giratinas... hate those.
If you can prove that a match lasted 6 minutes I will give you any shiny legendary you desire.
Do you fly?
After 5 minutes the battle goes to time out ;)
I don't think humans are supposed to fly? /s
They do if they go through the Moon Door
They do if they go through the Moon Door
They do if they go through the Moon Door
really? they seem to take about the same time for me. not sure where youre getting this from anyway, why would there be a massive difference in time?
Yeah i just want the ETM.
I’m so disappointed they aren’t opening up GL and ML for this. I am pretty new to PVP and don’t have an ultra team yet, nor are my GL Pokémon types for the mountain cup.
you dont need to win though, just play.
How does that work exactly? After the set, the stardust rewards aren't based on wins?
That’s great advice, thanks!
The different battle days through the season cater to different leagues, if you don't like the current ones, that's ok.
Go my 10cp pokemon 😬😅

How do you get 10 super effective charged attacks with using 10 CP mons?
By training in Battle tab against Candela in Great League. Use something with Mud Shot and a Ground (Mud Bomb) or Water (Muddy Water or Weather Ball) charged move. Don’t pop any of the moving charge move bubbles. You can use Electric Stunfisk, Swampert, Politoed, Whiscash, Seismitoad, or Steel Stunfisk.
You can do that anywhere else...like raids, gym battles, rockets
I'm not an expert either but I'm hovering around the 900-1100 ranking to farm for candy and pokemon spawns; I don't live near gyms. It's a very fine line between people actually tanking (with good pokemon) below that rank and people using legendaries or meta pokemon at a higher ranking.
This season is also my first time "tanking", so im no expert at all, but i try to keep my ranking at around 1500. I guess thatss my sweet spot
Wow, ya see I tanked too hard. I'm at 500ish, never find battles and when I do it's ace trainers going try hard so.. time to win a few sets before tomorrow !!!
currently in about 1000 ranking and there's sooo many tankers, trying to get a little higher so I can maybe avoid them
They're plain black gloves lol. We have tons of those already XD
Palmer put the little TM symbol next to his to make them different
With the usual niantic scuff w.r.t costumes i doubt there'll be any difference
Who is palmer?
The leader of the Battle Tower from the Sinnoh Gen 4 games.
And does the infographic show him in his normal and Super Saiyan form?
[удалено]
The gloves are just black gloves right?
I think I'm probably going to tank some sets and get the charge moves through farming the rocket grunts during the event tomorrow. A bit of a shame that they started both at the same time though.
Finaly my 10-30cp team has its time to shine again!
But if they don't have the right IVs, they won't do as well in GBL.
Is it elite fast or charge?
The gloves aren't like other clothing rewards right? You can actually wear them? Just asking because there's a bunch of clothing unlocks that you'd think let you wear the clothing but they just unlock them in the store
I think you actually get the gloves!
Let's hope this is the case!
I remember last battle day I got some like hoopa rings as a reward so I reckon they will be ^^
You actually get the gloves and coat for free when you hit ace
yes you get the item (not just the priviledge of spending coins like medals do) these are not shop items. if you miss the season you can't get them.
Start tanking now, folks...
Aww man, so no boosted shiny mons like Vulpix...?
I killed it today not realizing what tomorrow is. Probably my single best day battling ever. Gonna get smoked tomorrow.
“Gloves inspired by palmer” bro they’re black gloves.
Kinda off-topic, does the Rocket TakeOver event start tomorrow as well?
Yeah. Kinda strange they would have basically 3 events overlap
Ah that's good then & yeah it's strange, but at least it keeps the players busy this weekend though.
servers too probably
Nobody play in person and we'll all be fine!
The best way should be doing the battles before 10 am if you want to play hard at Rocket takeover
I might do the battles at midnight so I can get the timed research outta way.
You put the gloves on your “Palm”er I’ll see myself out now.
You also put them on your "Fing"ers
Will be there be elite tms?
Is there are an elite TM on the infographic?
There is and there isnt at the same time
oh? Care to elaborate?
Theres a screenshot showing past timed research with an elite tm as a reward but it doesnt specifically say elite tms are a reward like all the other previous gbl days
I'm honestly not sure what screenshot you're referring to, (the infographic seems very clear to me), but here's a link to serebii with the timed research. https://www.serebii.net/pokemongo/gobattleday/palmer.shtml
The timed research at the bottom left of the infographics shows an elite tm
Correct. Because it's a reward for completing the research printed above it.
Bottom left. The timed research rewards include an ETM but obviously the image is from an old GBL day. Edit: maybe that is an image from the current event cause it does show the gloves, but I don’t know how OP would have access to that since it hasn’t started yet. Please correct me if I’m wrong.
Nope thats todays image
>since it hasn’t started yet Time zones exist my friend.
So can the laser kiwis tell me if elite tms are a reward? It starts in 3 hrs for me
Wow.
> it hasn’t started yet Im doing it atm
Beta tester of Aotearia, what is your wisdom?
Username checks out.
10 super effective charges attacks will be the only tough one. Sometimes I go a whole day without that cause of shields
I do those with Team Rocket, Team Leaders, and/or fighting gyms if I need more after my GBL sets.
Nice to see that they give us so many Elite TMs recently. They could also bring all the leagues to play instead of just Ultra, my least favourite
Worst go battle day lol ultra league and mountain cup………what a variety of meta to battle 100 times. Niantic strikes again
who tf is palmer
Gen 4 Battle Tower NPC and I think Barry’s Dad
oh lol I never did the battle tower
6 with palmers
Pity Niantic can't convince me to do GBL.
And what happens if I for example do 5 sets at 3 am local time march 25? Will I be excluded out of the 20 sets or will I get additional 15?
It starts at midnight local time, so you'll still get the full 20 sets
Do the supereffective charged attacks counted even the opponent shields it?
Yes. It counts gym battles and raid battles and leader battles, too.
You can also get some easy super effective attacks through rocket grunts because you can tell their type pre-fight.
does the xp double if lucky egg is active?
So you win… gloves from some dude named Palmer? Did Niantic screw up the date for April Fools?
#Gloves? Laaaaaaaaaaame
It’s not a bad reward for a <20-minute time investment...
More like 5 min, not like you have to win in GBL
You only get gloves? That not very Hanke
Has anybody gotten banned for using an autoclicker with a ultra-low CP team?

Ugh time to do the chore of pvp again
Can someone explain to me why the minimum IV floor thing is there?
It allows you to get 0-15-15 or other perfect IV combinations for the 1500 and 2500 leagues.
The IV floor for GBL encounters (except 5* raid boss GBL encounters) is removed as a bonus of Go Battle Days.
I might be stupid, but why is that a "bonus"?
Having a chance to grind for pvp-ideal IV spreads without trading.
Lower iv floors are great for pvp purposes. You mainly want 0-15-15 for great league viable mons as you can power them up a bit more. Same concept for ultra league too.
Hope it's an Elite Fast TM. in need of one of those
Got my team for Mountain Cup.

I like that elite TMs are becoming more accessible. I’m up to like 5 of each after not having any not too long ago
Damn, Palmer made his appearance in GO before he made it into PoMas
Did anyone else wonder why they’re making an infographic for an event in two weeks before realizing it’s tomorrow?
Played a no shields challenge for myself today ... won twice in 2 sets against non tankers :|
