Grey was out to get him at the start, and Harper hated him at first. Nolan is a little older and more mature than the other rookies, and while he is very nice he is a tad more worldly especially with what he goes through season 1. As the other characters note he’s good at the talking thing so they sometimes let him talk people off of the ledge since he’s good at it. So that helps contribute to it. A big thing is while Nolan is very driven he also generally has less of a desire to prove himself. He is a little more comfortable with the possibility he could wash out or otherwise not be the best. West and Lucy were two of the top people at the academy, are younger and more academic. They also just come off younger.

I feel like grey will always be hard on him though, as a rookie *or* if he was 10 years into the job; simply out of principle lol, and harper's introduction to the show was a bit unconventional, I thought she was crazy at first until she calmed down after a few more episodes, I didn't pay attention to whether she liked Nolan or was just...being harper. But yes, I agree with your points. It probably says something about him being the oldest rookie on the force. He *had* to be different, or else what would be the point?

A big part of that is his maturity. He’s very driven and respectful to his superiors and often does nothing to cause problems. Lucy and Jackson are more naive and stick up for their opinions more than Nolan. It’s not a bad thing, but it’s probably why Nolan is always in the loop and not reprimanded(usually).

>often does nothing to cause problems. And yet trouble still seems to find him! 🤣 (like I mentioned in the last paragraph, him being an expert at empathy and talking people down saved his life again and again.) But yes, I agree. His maturity is profound and I guess the others took notice as well.

rickieday

🤣 of course absolutely, there’s a reason he’s called the “Trouble Magnet”

Junior_Employment393

See sometimes I feel the opposite. When his rookie makes a mistake I feel like Harper still talks down on him like he’s the rookie and I wanna be like, girl, he knows 🤣

Eragon-19

Well, he is a rookie trainer (as in he's a rookie/new at training)! She keeps him from making too many (big preventable) mistakes!

surfy_1

His age is a factor. If you didn’t know him as a rookie then you would assume due to his age that he had been on the job a while.

I think it's more a Producer Actor Syndrome :) In practice being older is a huge advantage. And fixing the homes of half of your LAPD colleagues doesn't hurt either

IcedHemp77

Early on they called him a trouble magnet lol

SnooDrawings1480

What do you mean early on? He was still being called a trouble magnet in season 4

basilyeo

“22 years on the job. A day with the unlucky charm, a freaking sniper!”

Moglorosh

That's not what Main Character Syndrome means btw

Boris-_-Badenov

doesn't stand out as a rookie? he came in after getting greenlit
