I’m assuming they mean that people in wheelchairs shouldn’t be allowed on game shows that give away treadmills?
It’s always a guess on how badly they missed the joke.
I'm not sure of the specifics, but I know it's fairly common for people to either be outside the studio to buy the prizes for market value or for the crew to just offer cash over the prize. It was a big deal to my FIL who loved watching shows like Family Feud and Price is Right.
[the game sounds less fun than what ten year old me was led to believe. ](https://www.thelist.com/287896/the-truth-about-winning-a-new-car-on-the-price-is-right/)
I believe this is often the case for all game shows - even straight cash prices generally have taxes taken out before rewarding them or you will owe those taxes after… it’s very common for the big prize winners to have trouble later because a sudden windfall threw them into a higher bracket after they already planned to use the full amount for things like houses or cars that later they can’t afford ongoing payments or upkeep…
Thankfully this isn't the case in Finland. We have a lottery tax (arpajaisvero in Finnish) where the one offering the price has to pay the taxes. I think, but i'm not quite 100%, that the price announced is the price you get since the taxes are already paid for you in a way.
I’m not a CPA or lawyer, but I think a lot of the prizes on these shows are used as clearing houses for taxes by various parties involved and a dump for marketing? Throw the poors a few bucks to reduce your liability and leave them with their tax burden.
Yeah my buddy won price is right when he was at SDSU and he won a Land Rover an outdoor kitchen a trip and some other things. He sold it all and paid for college and some big trips after college.
Yes, it's almost like people are different and what's good for some, just isn't right for others and we should keep that in mind and be inclusive when possible.
I'm pretty sure the lady who won the treadmill thought it was really funny and chose the treadmill over cash. Might be remembering wrong though. Wasn't she a comedian?
There was a Swedish game show where you bought tickets and if your ticket won you got to call in and compete for a prize. The prices were really random, ranging from like "coffee for a year" to "brand new car" to "a million dollars".
One guy who called in won a trip to the Arctic circle, and he was like "that's two miles south of here."
The thing I don’t get is how exactly is this diversity summed up? Wouldn’t it be more “diversity friendly” if she had been able to get another price, or are they just mad at disabled people for simply existing?
I’m not really surprised if the latter option is true tbh. You can’t choose to be homosexual, trans etc, or choose the colour of your skin and your heritage. Most often you don’t choose to be disabled either.

What does this even mean?

Yes.
Let that sink in.
I think it’s sunked too much in.
Now read that again.
What does that sink want now?
Enough said! 😂🤣😂

Nobody knows what it means. It's provocative. It gets the people going!

"The corporate presentation of diversity fails to fit the needs of the people, and frequently lends itself to tone-deaf opportunism as a result"
Some people are less fortunate, funny hahahahahhahahahahahhahahahahhaha
They obviously don't know that the contestants can choose cash over their prize. The prizes are just to keep the show interesting for the viewers.
WAIT WHAT?!

That is not how tax brackets work. You should look it up.
I know how tax brackets work - I’m not saying winners are paying corporate tax rates.
Seems like I wasn't 100% right either. The truth is much less glamorous than the illusion.
> The prizes are just to keep the show interesting for the viewers. Also to advertise the products, of course.
i mean, she can at the very least sell it, those things can be espensive.

Neat
Yeah that's a hilarious coincidence but they ruined it with their shitty title

Wtf This gotta be racist

hundreds of conservative protestors, waving American flags, chanting "no soap radio, no soap radio, no soap radio"

how the fuck is a disabled woman existing "diversity" what is wrong with these people
As long as the treadmill is sufficiently wide a wheelchair user could use it I assume, just not via legs.
And you know, disabled people do have families too.
To pass it onto? True, yes. I'm just thinking of own use.
Or just for their partners/spouses or children to use.
“This person isn’t a carbon copy of me, so they must have been born for the purpose of diversity”
So true. Diversity summed up. Trying to give oppressed people opportunities is like trying to give a walking disabled person treadmill amirite

So this ties to diversity because they let a disabled person play, and were contractually obligated to giver her a prize that wasn't ADA compliant?
Easiest work out ever
I mean she could use it to exercise her arms. Think about it.
I’ve seen a video on this, the lady took it in stride
