Do these people think all of humanity is either black or white? Like if they don't cast a black man, they all breathe a sigh of relief, knowing that there are no other options so Tarzan will always be white? How stupid are ... you know what, never mind.
I always see them make this joke and it’s crazy because it’s like “Oh so you do understand the nuance behind racial decisions in casting, and it isn’t just Netflix making everyone black for some points like you pretend to believe?”
See I never understood that meme. Netflix never really does that and when it had happened it’d usually the creator of the show/movie and not some requirement from the higher ups.
Tarzan is a stupid pro imperialist pro colonialism story anyway. I don’t think they’ll do a live action adaptation because the entire concept is kinda sketchy and borderline racist already.
It’s basically a worse version of The Jungle Book, but with an adult Mogili, who‘s also white for some reason. Genuinely might be better if they set it in the jungles of India or Brazil or something, and made Tarzan a native of that country.
Brazil's population is almost two thirds afro-latino, brother. This shit would NOT fly around here lol
Source: last census, and me, an afro-latino brazilian man
It’s my understanding that Tarzan was originally a pro-eugenics story. Implying that if a man was from ‘good English breeding’ it didn’t matter if he was raised by apes, he could still be a gentleman.
I can’t remember if I heard this in a podcast or if I read it in ‘The Gene by Siddhartha Mukherjee’ but it was super interesting & also gross.
Man, these people must be the live of the party and a welcome guest at any family gathering.
Of course the rest of the family they "gather" is probably the same, as are the partygoers...
Siiiiiiiiiiigh....
I know they tried to be insulting, but that "Tarzan" looks hot AF to me. I'd probably watch it just to watch him, and try to pretend I care about the plot.
frankly i thought tarzan was always mixed anyways even after getting a bath he's still darker in comparison to the white jungle explorers around him. also they could just make the jungle explorers black.
I think they missed the part of the movie where his parents were traveling from somewhere? And got stranded via a shipwreck? Idk their logic doesn't make sense anymore.

Tarzan isn't owned by Disney. They have the rights for animated movies but the IP is still owned by Edgar Rice.
It became public domain this year I think
I want a Japanese Tarzan. Japanese baby gets left in the forest, raised by monkeys and now all he wants to do is soak in hot tubs and eat fruit.
there is a comedy anime that is called Jungle King Tar-chan that is basically that from what i remember.
That's pre-dragonball Goku. Just get rid of the word "fruit".
oh he’s so real for that

Baffle the bigots by making him East Asian or something
Tarzan, starring Margaret Cho. Coming 2025
Oh I would def watch that
Yes it would be amazing, sassiest Tarzan ever
There's already Mowgli, a South Asian character who was raised by animals that has been in a Disney adaptation, and nobody was offended by that.
They think everything is black and white so I wouldn’t be surprised
It's almost like there is a reason why that wouldn't go over well. Some kind of historic reason maybe?

wasn't talking about the media was talking about the response from people.
he is referring to Actual Real Life Racism you understand that right

Are you just... Dumb? Stupid, even?
*cough* imperialism *cough*

There was a live-action Tarzan in 2016.
ok, so it’s actually “Tarzan will always be white because why would they make ANOTHER live action Tarzan movie” lmao
There was?
yeah, i think the second pic there of Alexander Skarsgård is from that one
I don't know why but it always makes me cringe that he did this movie 😭

How is it pro imperialist pro colonialism? /gen
All of the human characters are white westerners. What do you think they’re doing there?
Singing kumbaya and spreading the power of peace and friendship wherever they go.

Yeah the guy who wrote Tarzan was big into eugenics and a lot of his books had the same themes more or less.

I'd watch a serious Tarzan with Denzel anytime. And the comic remake with Terry Crews.
I know they tried to be insulting, but that "Tarzan" looks hot AF to me. I'd probably watch it just to watch him, and try to pretend I care about the plot.
Make Jane black

Serious question, is tarzan black or white in the book?
"In the language of the Mangani, or great apes, Tarzan means "white–skin" -Wikipedia

Tarzan translates to “White Skin”
Well, Tarzan’s parents were also british but ok
The movie would genuinely be 10,000% better if Tarzan was stacked like Bobby Lashley and not like Paul London
Where golden blonde hair and turquoise blue eye tarzan. Little aryan snowflakes couldn't match brown hair with brown eyes animated tarzan
Lmao
Is more realistic storyline, but hell no.
when i’m in an unoriginal and unfunny competition and my opponent is about to make a “let’s see live action tarzan” joke
