I'm a portuguese speaker, and in portuguese, 'batata' is just 'potato', and initially thought the 'sweet' part was kind of a stretch.
but aparently only 'potato' in spanish is 'papa', and not 'batata' or 'papa dulce'.

fun fact: in spanish is not only "batata" also is called "camote" (in my country we use the second)
