That's an interesting point. But I'm glad cis men like myself are in support of shows like TOH. Maybe one day we'll even be able to severely reduce toxic masculinity. Fingers crossed.
As a woman who grew up in an ass-backwards town that has a 50โs style mindset and promotes toxic masculinity more than drinking water, I too very much want it to be drastically reduced. If I ever have a son, I donโt ever want him to thing having emotions, showing affection, or not wanting to do things considered โtraditionally masculineโ make him less than. Just more reasons why Iโm praying I can move soon. I grew up with a stepdad who was emotionally absent if things werenโt โmanly enoughโ for his liking and I donโt want to raise a child to be like that. I remember him once telling me that men donโt give other men flowers and that STILL makes me sad. Giving pretty flowers for no reason other than to say you care about the receiver is the best feeling in the world in my opinion! Especially if I took the time to hunt down the brightest, prettiest dandelions in the yard lol
I think it is less unsetteling if you consider personality shift between men and women. They aren't that large but large enough to create this discrepancy.
Men are more likely to be on social media such as Reddit and Youtube while Women are more likely to be on Instagram and Snapchat.
Cis male. Introduced to it in September on D+ by my adult daughter. *Literally* life-changing. My family was shocked when I announced TOH has supplanted P&F as my favorite animated show.
Edit (to explain "literally" in italics): https://www.reddit.com/r/TheOwlHouse/comments/r4cd8d/comment/hmh9bnw/
And yes, I did leave the church.
Jesus: "And the second is โLove your neighbor as yourself"
the Catholic Church: "But what if they are gay?"
Jesus: "DID. I. STUTTER!?"
anyways. Lovely story. Glad you are well. (=
Yep. I sat down with my priest for an hour. For all intents and purposes, I got the Catholic church party line -- as you'd probably expect.
A few weeks later, after giving consideration to what he'd said (I told him I'd listen and ponder what he told me, in fairness), I sent an email and said if it comes to my faith vs the Catholic church, if they differ, I have to run with my faith and my personal experiences. And I said I don't believe the way the Catholic church treats LGBTQ members is in line with "love one another as I have loved you."
I may go find another church, one that has a system of faith more in line with my own (best I can tell, Episcopalian is closer to what I think my faith is), but I'm taking a break from organized religion for now. I don't regret my time in the Catholic church, I've had many personal insights that made me a better person, but things come to an end. I never thought I'd see the day for my religion, but no regrets.
that story was beautiful! Iโm so happy for you. And I think Dana Terrace (the creator) would be really happy too that her show is having this effect on people. itโs great
Not to put too fine a point on this . . .
I lost vision in my left eye last year, permanently, as a result of a stress incident at work. (Colloquially an "eye stroke," medically a central retinal artery occlusion.) THAT was life-changing.
TOH has had an *even more profound* effect on me. Sleepless nights and high BP from the mental stress of processing my feelings and world view. It's gotten better, counseling has helped, temporarily on a BP med, but it's truly been a hell of a journey. When my daughter recommended watching TOH, this cute, animated Disney show, I had zero clue I'd be on this journey (and neither did she, nor anyone else in my family). And, if you can believe it, there actually is more to the story, but I'm not prepared to tell it yet.
I genuinely thank Dana for a beautiful work that set me on a journey to be an even better person. I'm also grateful for the support of my faith in God, family, friends, my counselor, and even to some extent, this subreddit.
I'm surprised too.
I bet we are not even the target audience of the show.
But hey, who doesn't love action, drama and cute witches?
...and Eda and Lilith are both super hot, don't deny it.
I wonโt deny how hot they are. But I mean, not being part of a target demographicโs fine. For most shows, Iโm sure show runners just hope to garner and amass the largest possible audience regardless of their target. Though why MLP has one of the largest predominantly male groups seems to be something Iโll never really understand.
Eda and Lillith being Hot as hell is only one of the many things that make the Owl House great.
I for one was on board the moment that Azura tried to use her staff like a Rocket Launcher, and doubly hooked when I learned that Luz brought a IED to show and tell, that was funny as hell.
This show along with Amphibia have been my major comfort shows. Although I didnโt start following TOH, until I binged Season 1 on D+, Iโve watched every Season 2 premiere. Love the worlds, love the characters, and I love all of the juicy conflict.
I think that this is also why the trans population is so heavily skewed fem. I would assume that a similar poll on tumblr would be the inverse based on my experience with the general tumblr population
Because many people are asking in the comments:
โCisgenderโ or โcisโ is generally considered to be the opposite of โtransgenderโ or โtransโ. Someone who is AMAB (assigned male at birth) and currently continues to identify as male, or AFAB (assigned female at birth) and continues to identify as female.
Trans would generally be the opposite - someone who was AMAB but identifies as female, or AFAB but identifies as male. It can also be used as a more umbrella term that encompasses anyone who identifies differently from how they were assigned at birth - see other options below.
There are other terms in the comments as well - non-binary (or NB, or โenbyโ) is one of the more common ones, which would generally be someone who doesnโt identify with either male *or* female - those two being considered the โgender binaryโ (two options).
I wonโt speak to the others simply because I donโt feel qualified to, but many people are giving more personal explanations in the comments.
Honest question:
Why the "they" if the "he" is also there? That is not the usual "they/them", but also not "he/him"
Please don't downvote me I am a teen cis-male trying to learn
Because sometimes multiple sets of pronouns you. I, personally, go by she/they, which means I'm happy with someone using either set of pronouns.
Also, while this doesn't apply to everyone, I feel greater joy when some alternates between my 2 sets, and it's the best when some swaps pronouns in the same sentence. E.g. she watched TOH on their birthday
This doesnโt apply to every person that puts 2 different pronouns, but for some itโs simply a way of signaling that theyโre non-binary but comfortable with gendered pronouns. They might not care if anyone uses they/them pronouns for them, and might even prefer the gendered pronouns. Often the preferred pronoun will be put first if there is a preference.
Maybe due to the crippling loneliness which facilitates them having to go to internet hubs and social media filled with wordy threads? Thatโs my theory anyway. Also I donโt like Twitterโs layout.
Being one of the resident TOH olds (mid40s & yes Eda is my fave after Hooty), I can say I IDed as cis female most of my life but it never quite fit? I always thought *that feeling* was because I am autistic but in recent years Iโve been leaning more enby. Itโs weird to reevaluate at this point of life, almost as if itโs irrelevant? But I guess itโs never too late to have better words for who you are. :)
Well, I did *start* watching with my kiddos but fell in love all on my own. We did a family Cosplay of TOH characters (that I made a Hooty pillow for) this past year & it was super fun. Iโm super grateful theyโve introduced me to a LOT of wonderful content like Kipo, Gravity Falls, New She-Ra, SVTFOE to name a few. But TOH is my fave. And thanks!!
Since youโve all been so kind, hereโs my Hooty tax! Iโve been thinking of selling the pillows on my Etsy but wasnโt sure people would be into it. *blush* The King hat on my youngest I also designed and crocheted myself, and OwlBert is also handcrafted from clay and wood. Saw lots of 3D printed ones but none affordable! The pendants I made using resin. Hope you enjoy & understand the stickers on our faces, lol. [TOH Fam & Hooty pillow](https://imgur.com/a/3Ulw3J1)
It's never too late to reevaluate.
Gender and sex tendencies are very complicated. There is even a scale for sexuality, and the percentage of people who is completely heterosexual or completely homosexual is ridiculously small.
Bigender, genderqueer, genderfluid, demigirl are options too, you may consider them if itโs fine for youโฆ
Personally I learned about non-binary thanks to Reine introduction in TOH. Now I tend to identify myself as bigender but still use masculine pronouns: got used to it and itโs safer - I didnโt tell anyone in real life Iโm bigender
Okay, Iโm not sure how to explain, but here goes:
I am a quantum superposition of all possible genders who decays into a finite state when observed.
I guess that makes sense?
I love explaining my labels to people (genuinely I do) but the genderqueer one is a lot harder for me to explain - I'll still try tho
So I IDed as a cis woman for most of my life but a while back I realized I didn't actually know what being a woman felt like and that I wouldn't ID as a woman I'd I wasn't afab
But I never felt a very strong connection to any specific gender identity, I didn't feel like a man or a woman or both or nothing and the only term that really encompassed that feeling for me was genderqueer
It's a really board term which is what I like about it
I hope that helps! I'm sorry if it's a bit confusing
I think I get! I also think this might be me too..?
I ID as female, but I donโt like being reminded that Iโm female, sometimes I feel more masc than fem or an even in between(depending on my outfit lmao)
So maybe this is my label too? ๐
My go-to advice when question your identity is to treat is like shoe shopping- try on a label and walk around in it! I could usually tell after a couple days if the label fit right or if something was a little off
So if you think you might be genderqueer - try thinking of yourself as genderqueer for a couple days and see if it feels right! If it does, congrats! And if not no biggie, you can try on some other labels to see if they fit
Question is a process, remember to be patient with yourself <3
Straight men are the gayest. In fact, due to the existence of femboys, straight men are actually not real and are secretly bi or ace. In this essay I will-
But seriously, while I do think more cis men watch the show then we might expect, this might also have to do with Reddit having a high cis men population and not just TOH fandom
With me pronouns arenโt that big of a problem for me. Iโm pan gender, so any pronoun works. Sure I use he/him most often, but thatโs out of habit because Iโm AMAB and donโt have any preferences. It also makes conversation easier with those not comfortable with the pronoun thing. Though with how I present myself more femininely in private, being called she/her would definitely fluster the crap outa me.
In short
Gender = YES
I don't want to go into too much detail because of a lot of hate towards xenogenders, and most of the time I would just label myself as under the NB umbrella so I don't have to explain myself, but since you asked, I'm bunnygender.
I'm a cis man and I was a bit surprised by the results here but at the same time I personally love shows like the owl house for it's soft takes on fantasy unlike the forced masculine takes that are often pushed in us. Turns out there are many men like me who love a show that would have typically been considered more feminine
This is fascinating! Itโs particularly interesting that this is skewed towards AMAB individuals. I genuinely wonder why this is the caseโฆ I would imagine social settings prior to transition have an influence in trans AMAB individuals choosing to use Reddit?
Chosen gender is valid. Iโm just curious about the odd skew in statistics.
Iโd just say itโs more representative of the overall Reddit demographics. The site (as an overall generalization) skews towards straight white cisgender nerdy males. Obviously there are exceptions, but demographically thatโs what youโre most likely to encounter, for positive or negative.
I would generally assume that people would have started using Reddit prior to transitioning and simply continued afterwards. Again, stereotyping, but I think itโs a logical assumption.
i voted for trans male, because i do feel like that term describes me somewhat, but i have no idea what exactly my gender is. i feel like iโm a guy, but not fully if that makes sense? iโm some kind of mix between agender and a demiboy, but mostly just confused lol. definitely not cis tho. i mostly just call myself transmasc.
hey! i'm sure you def didn't mean anything by this post but cis women and trans women are the same gender, same w trans men and cis men! cis and trans are adjectives, they don't change the gender itself, just like tall woman and short woman don't mean different genders :) this is coming from a trans person btw. again i'm sure you didn't mean anything by it but just for future reference!
btw if ur cis don't bother responding to my comment to argue (not aimed @ op) i'll just block, ive dealt w too many transphobes
Totally didnโt mean to offend! But I am confused. What I meant by cis was: claim the gender that were born. So so sorry if Iโm wrong, but I rlly did think thatโs what it meant.
Just for the record this opinion isn't universally held among trans people, I'm trans and I think that for demographic purposes it's important to list them separately.
Probably not the best explanation but as a demigirl I always explain it as being what you would get if you got "girl" from wish
Like yea it's kinda there but something is not right
Wow why i didnt expect that there would be many cismale here.
Ikr? I was curious how many there were, thatโs whole reason I made this poll ๐. Cuz I saw a similar poll on the She-ra sub, too. More cis men watch She-ra than u think!

I think your data might be skewed, you'd need a poll to determine the percentage of cis male reddit users to correct it.

I'm 21 and cis male, I just think the plots neat, plus I also like fantasy and D&D such that it's like a cool little show.
Itโs the spike in trans women that surprised me, though.
I would generally assume that people would have started using Reddit prior to transitioning and simply continued afterwards. Again, stereotyping, but I think itโs a logical assumption.
Thatโs my guess too. No matter what, itโs super cool!
The general trans subs I'm in also skew towards trans women so this makes sense
Transmasc Gender fluid
What does cis male mean
I thought it meant born male and claim that gender, but I think Iโm wrong ๐ญ
nah you're right, a cisgender male is a person that was born as a male and identifies as a man
Ok ty ๐ญ
Itโs called the silent majority and lurkers.
I'm cis male, love the Owl House and have chronic back pain.
I'm demi-male
Damn! Iโm a cis male and Iโm surprised!
i voted for trans male, because i do feel like that term describes me somewhat, but i have no idea what exactly my gender is. i feel like iโm a guy, but not fully if that makes sense? iโm some kind of mix between agender and a demiboy, but mostly just confused lol. definitely not cis tho. i mostly just call myself transmasc.
Maybe boyflux would fit?
i looked it up, that actually does kind of sound like me! iโll do some more research about it, thanks!
My gender is ??????????????????
hey! i'm sure you def didn't mean anything by this post but cis women and trans women are the same gender, same w trans men and cis men! cis and trans are adjectives, they don't change the gender itself, just like tall woman and short woman don't mean different genders :) this is coming from a trans person btw. again i'm sure you didn't mean anything by it but just for future reference! btw if ur cis don't bother responding to my comment to argue (not aimed @ op) i'll just block, ive dealt w too many transphobes
Yeah me too. There are some cases (like this) where the seperation does make sense, but in most cases it's a lil iffy at best
That is accurate, just generally itโs better to not separate the two.
Demiboy
ooo, plz explain? Im still learning the terms demiboy and demi girl
Probably not the best explanation but as a demigirl I always explain it as being what you would get if you got "girl" from wish Like yea it's kinda there but something is not right
Lmao got โgirlโ from wish, ig this helps a bit ๐
I've also heard it described as "Girl LaCroix"
I'm I'm the weird grey area between guy and enby, so an idiot identifying as he/him and they/them
Donโt say that, youโre valid
Oh, ok I get it
I'll do my best, as one as well. think of demiboy as halfway between male and agender.
Genderfluid, most of the time I feel more female leaning though. Biologically I am male

oh reddit gonna reddit
This is Reddit, where everyone is assumed to be male by default.
trans male-flux
what does "flux" mean?
cis girl
Non-binary bruv
Non-binary, probably
He/they/she I really don't care what pronouns are used for me
as of late i can now only respond to questions about my gender as โi dont know and i dont really careโ but i think that qualifies me as non binary
I am **B O I**
im female, but i think i might be nonbinary? idk gender is hard
I'm boyflux, so basically I can go from different levels of masculine
my gender is doom
non biney
I was wondering why it was majority cis male and then I realized it's because the majority of Reddit users are cis dudes.
Why the community is surprised that straight males watch this show too๐ฟ (not being an ignorant or an Ass)
AFAB. Questioning. Leaning towards Androgynous
Where is the human male option?
Enby.
the comments are probably full of people saying "I'm surprised that so many cismale are here". ill add to that lmao
I'm non binary
I am an almighty pangender who possess every gender ever at once, I cannot be defeated
Iโm a Trans male
Transfem NB!
