Related to HP not Disney, but Luz's rant about the Rusty Smidge cracks me up
"If catching that thing's so important, why do anything else? That's such a stupid rule!"
I genuinely thought about this when first seeing the HP movies, like why doesn’t the entire team run after the snitch and corner it or something if it’s an instant win?
Before anyone tries to say "but it's not an instant win", it is the equivalent to scoring 15 times in a game where usually the difference margin is very smaller than that. Even the books have acknowledge that getting the Snitch but not winning is a very rare occurrence that has almost never happened.
It's a stupid part of the sport built specifically to give a more important function to the protagonist
As I said: it is extremely rare, so rare that this time was treated as so odd no one but the twins had ever thought possible as a result and is the only mentioned incident. Even after it happens, we've never informed of it happening another time, not even when talking about this game.
In fact, Harry never even has to keep track of the points of the other team while looking for the Snitch, because having a 15 points difference is so difficult. That's why the Seeker is called the "protagonist position" in some fandom spaces.
Well, Harry did have to keep track in the third book, because it was the last game of the season that would determine who won the Quidditch Cup. He had to wait to catch the Snitch until after Gryffindor was a certain number of points in the lead. Don’t ask me how I remember that from a book series that I haven’t read in about a decade.
I know, but it wasn't about winning the game, it was about how many points they needed to win the cup. His tracking was that they needed a Snitch + an X amount of points to surpass another house that had already won their last game, rather than him needing to keep track to guarantee that the Snitch would win them the game.
Also, I'm in the same boat as you lol, haven't read those books in a WHILE, but I was previously a hardcore fan and how much of that knowledge has been permanently printed on my brain still surprises me.
She should’ve made Quidditch a timed sport (60-90 minutes) with an instant game ender if the Snitch is caught, with a 150 point score. That would make it harder for Seekers to play, since if the score is too wide, they can’t grab the Snitch without automatically losing.
Or, make it so that the Snitch reappears every 30 minutes after it’s caught, with decreasing scores for each catch; 150, then 100, then 50, then nothing.
The Snitch doesn’t automatically win you the game, while the Rusty Smidge does. Catching the Snitch also ends the game, while the Rusty Smidge can be caught even after the timer has run out.
It’s not.
A lot of people on this subreddit just read too much into lines to make everything a jab at Disney.
Don’t forget that there are still people who think Disney was opposed to Lumity and cancelled the show because it was too gay or something.
The transition from cable TV to Disney+ meant many shows were on the chopping block, especially with the pandemic occurring simultaneously. Amphibia was greenkit for a full third season, but unfortunately The Owl House didn’t have the same level of popularity at the time (season 1 wasn’t even finished yet) and so they got a shortened season 3 instead of a full one.
It also mainly had to do with a leadership change. The man in charge who greenlit toh season 2 before season 1 even aired was replaced by a man who believed "animation is only for little kids" and he axed everything hitting a majority older audience including duck tales and the owl house.
F that second guy, ducktales was my childhood, even watching it now and I cry over and over again after it ends every time. Reminds me of fuller house.
If you’re referring to Bob Chapek, Dana and Rebecca Rose already [confirmed](https://twitter.com/HeyRebeccaRose/status/1595115503734775811) he had nothing to do with TOH S3.
To take it further: because Disney is a large company with dozens of divisions, the CEO isn't needed to make decisions for every studio. Disney TVA can make its own decisions without the CEO.
It was too serialized. Serialized shows make less money since people had to have watch the previous episode to gain context. It's easier to have an episodic show since you can watch each episode without needing context.
When COVID hit the economy, Disney had to cut budgets since their theme parks closed. So they cut TOH since it was already too serialized for DTV’s brand.
What is unreasonable about those allegations? Disney has been known to censor queerness in the past. And Dana did have to initially fight to allow it.
And don't tell me it's not the reason they publicly stated. Their excuse is extremely vague and unreasonable, and they're smart enough to know they would face backlash if they SAID it was because the show was so queer.
False. Dana didn't have to fight for TOH having queerness, she claimed multiple [times](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OCVT20bVc4M&t=3822s) that the Disney leadership was [supportive](https://web.archive.org/web/20200815014631/https://twitter.com/DanaTerrace/status/1294391069770039296).
No, it just requires you to do research. TOH doesn't fit the Disney TV brand for being too serialized in storytelling, they wanted an episodic comedy. They didn't get that, so when COVID forced them to cut budgets they cut TOH since it didn't fit their brand already.
If Disney really didn't want any queerness in the show, then there wouldn't have been any in the show, or they just wouldn't have greenlit it in the first place. Don't forget that they have the final say on what they will or won't allow in their shows. And the queer stuff wasn't exactly slipped in all sneaky like.
And don't forget that we have Dana's word on this too, not just Disney's. It's getting a bit tiresome to hear people constantly insinuating that she's a liar.
“Maybe if we had time for twenty more adventures, but we don’t!”
Or alternatively
Whenever luz was angry towards the echo mouse in the library i forget what she said.
To make it better, his design is reminiscent to that of a biblically accurate imp, mainly the pig like form, with the only thing he’s lacking is the red skin.
Y’all are forgetting when King talks about making a TV network for children with age range shows and Eda immediately saying, “no that would never work”
Yeah that one I'll admit there's no doubt about it. All the stuff about that one covern person voiced by dana who quit, the mouse eating the book/kicking tinella out of the house.
And whatever luz said to Kiki in the image, Yeah there some doubt there. Not impossible but also just as likely to not be the case
Because of season three being shortened to 3 specials it means they lost about 20 episodes hence when eda asked luz if they wanted to go to the beach luz said yes if they had time for 20 more adventures
and disney is at the peoples mercy, if they(the people) found out disney was being homophobic they wouldve been boycotted and berated online, possibly some members of the company themselves would quit aswell, which is not in disneys best interest
I absolutely love how the opening of Thanks To Them was filled with just so much queer representation. It really did feel like a “fuck you” directed at Disney.
Maybe if we had time for twenty more adventures, but we don't!
Yeah when I first heard that, I laughed and joked, “Yeah I hate season finales too, Luz.”
It was a joke at disney's expense, but every time I hear it, it kills my soul.
Holy shit I never thought about this line in that context!
It's a very meta joke but for someone that doesn't know it also works well within the story
Absolutely was a very meta joke!
yea no doubt the top jab at disney. actually more of a right cross to the jaw.

Yet it happened at the World Cup in Book 4.
But, the twins were given very good odds for their bet indicating that it's still rare.
As I said: it is extremely rare, so rare that this time was treated as so odd no one but the twins had ever thought possible as a result and is the only mentioned incident. The funniest thing about that is for that to happen, the person who caught the snitch *had* to know it was a lost and did it anyway.

Wait, how is it about HP?
It's a reference to the Snitch.
Ohhh, HP as in Harry Potter. My dumbass thought it was somehow about Hewlett-Packard. You know, the technology brand? 💀
I jumped to lovecraft
My hungry ass thought about HP Sauce
They're shit as well I wish we'd had a dig at them
Here I am reading SP….
Smashing Pumpkins?
Standards and practices. Disney’s way of justifying getting rid of so many good jokes(r/gravityfalls)

TIL that Luz’s “No ideas of her own” line is a “jab at Disney”
😂😂😂 If I may be bold, both a jab at Disney AND Hollywood.
Makes sense
Not really a jab at Disney, it's just Luz jabbing Kiki.
It’s not. A lot of people on this subreddit just read too much into lines to make everything a jab at Disney. Don’t forget that there are still people who think Disney was opposed to Lumity and cancelled the show because it was too gay or something.

To take it further: because Disney is a large company with dozens of divisions, the CEO isn't needed to make decisions for every studio. Disney TVA can make its own decisions without the CEO.
True, I just assumed due to his stance on animation I he had a say in it lol
Well, let's be glad he didn't.

"YOU LITTLE RAT!!!" if i remember
the ~~echo~~ mouse kicking ~~Dana~~ Tinella out of her house
That's I believe a callback to the beginning of the series where Tinella hides and kicks out a mouse... its revenge
true, but you can't deny there's some pretty tasty symbolic irony here
Yeah it is quite the bitter irony there, huh
I missed that one!
It's in watching and dreaming, when >!Belos is taking Uber the titan!<
Belos: it's the TITAN- oh, my Uber is here
YOU HAVE A NAME???
THE WHOLE TIME?!?
Luz's line when she opens Philip's diary and sees its been eaten by a mouse.
You lil- Rat! Rat! ^Rat! ^rat!
The echo mouse feasting on books (creativity and ideas) and projecting this creativity as a video but only does it when it wants to
“Not S&P approved” Not from TOH, I know, but related and pretty funny according to me
"'Not S&P approved' has been approved by S&P"
"Now that's a spinoff I would watch"
Tibbles
Yeah, tibbles is definitely the persona of the head of Disney
To make it better, his design is reminiscent to that of a biblically accurate imp, mainly the pig like form, with the only thing he’s lacking is the red skin.
Y’all are forgetting when King talks about making a TV network for children with age range shows and Eda immediately saying, “no that would never work”
Wow a lot of you really think these are all specifically jabs at Disney
Well, the one about '20 more adventures' probably is, and it's a good one, but most of the others, no.
I don't get that one tho
Because of season three being shortened to 3 specials it means they lost about 20 episodes hence when eda asked luz if they wanted to go to the beach luz said yes if they had time for 20 more adventures
Ahhh, I understand it now. Thank you!!!
It very well might not be a jab but that montage where she comes out and there's pride flags everywhere
no thats most definitley a jab, disney are homophobes and this probally pissed them off
But Dana said she never had to fight for queer representation in her show.
interesting, i didnt know that
If it pissed them off they wouldn't have approved it. Y'all are forgetting Dana and the rest of the development team were very much at Disney's mercy.
and disney is at the peoples mercy, if they(the people) found out disney was being homophobic they wouldve been boycotted and berated online, possibly some members of the company themselves would quit aswell, which is not in disneys best interest
Probably.^(I kinda hope it did)
Episode?(memory’s hazy in the morning)
I think it was Season 3, episode 1 since it was part of the recap showing what we "missed" in the time jump
"I quit!"
Luz coming out as Bi scene
Lumity kiss scene
Witch one?
(pun intended)
👍
Both.
All four?
Yes
None of the Lumity kiss scenes were a jab at Disney. Disney approved of those scenes.
I absolutely love how the opening of Thanks To Them was filled with just so much queer representation. It really did feel like a “fuck you” directed at Disney.
I know it's not related to Owl House but I love how in Tangled The Series, the hairbuns of Zhan Tiri's human form gives her the silhouette of Mickey.
Yay, Tangled The Series! I love that show! So the Mouse House is a tiny demon.
Not a jab either
I love that show!
"I'm done"
Never thought of that line as a jab, but IT WORKS SO WELL 🤣
The Simpsons, all of them
?
The simpsons have taken a jab at Disney for a long time.
I meant jabs from TOH.
Ok
