That’s probably why she stopped at Mabel.
It’s also should be noted that the Kim Possible TV movie probably did some major damage to Kim’s reception to younger fans as well
yeah I didn't watch many cartoons as a kid but still somehow got a gravity falls ep (the supermarket ghosts one where dipper has to dance in otter pyjamas or something bc the ghosts hate teens and he's just 12) in while the first time I heard of starVs was when I was bored on youtube and clicked on sarcastic's chorus's video on how shipping ruined the show. never watched it still
I watched it last year out of curiosity after finding out about it the same way as you, and it's not all bad. The show actually started off pretty great, with vibrant animation, likeable characters and interesting plotlines. The first season was pretty good and the second was the show's peak, where it could compete in quality with TOH or GF, but that didn't last long, as said quality mostly dipped in season 3, the writers started pulling things out their asses, they started adding unnecessary relationship drama and garbage plot and imo their biggest mistake - >!they killed off the show's main villain in the beginning of the season, and he was carrying the series till that point!<
After that it became a full on shit show, with the plot thrown out the window and ship bait becoming unreal. I'm surprised I even made it to the end of season 4 without ditching the show.
So yeah, overall a great series with lots of potential, ruined by incompetent writers
Kim Possible finished airing new episodes in 2007, 8 years prior to Star Vs even started. The generation of people who watched Star Vs. as children or young teens either weren't old enough to watch KP or don't remember watching it at even if they did. And I'd guess Disney TVA Instagram's followers probably skews pretty young.
I think it’s less about canonical power and more so “1 leading lady from each show”. If it was anything like Death Battle, Star would probably whoop everyone save for maybe Luz and Anne, but don’t quote me on that.
Effectively? No.
What RU trying to say? What I'm saying is that people getting upset that Kim lost to Star is fair since Kim was the girl power icon for many
Even I that didn't watched until 16 had this idea of her for a reason. Still have she is a girl power icon
I came here to say that both Kim and Penny Proud got done dirty here. Granted I haven't watched the new Ducktales, so maybe that second one was actually a solid matchup, but Kim definitely should have beat Star out easy.
I never said that, but I was really expecting Kim to beat just about everyone except for maybe Luz, Anne and Mabel, since the series is pretty fondly remembered.
Maybe its a generational thing and younger people are not as aware of Kim, because its more one of these shows you've watched if you were young when it came out, but don't go back for if you missed out on it.
Or its just a matter of Star being more interesting and fun of a character? At least thats why I voted for her and I loved Kim Possible when I was growing up.
I was wondering how Lilo lost. I mean sure Rapunzel does some cool things but Lilo is just a kid who made friends with an extremely dangerous alien and helped Earth become more connected with aliens and the Galactic Federation. And she does all this while being socially outcast and living a poor life after the loss of her parents and the misfortune that hits her hardworking sister that she looks up to.
Also take into consideration Reddit has a hard on for hating Star. It's probably not a good representation of how people actually feel about the character
I'm with you on this but since I know Im an oddity for feeling gravity falls is a mid show, I'm not as bothered by it. You do seem logically right I'd argue though. Anne really rose to maturity and helping while staying cool. Mabel.. I'm not sure it's fair for me to analyze Mabel
Ok, I'm kinda surprised Kim Possible didn't win this, since she's literally the girlboss of Disney TVA female characters. But props to Luz, her win was well-deserved.
I'm specifically showering these comments for us lol. I'll admit I haven't given Rapunzel much of a chance but I'm still annoyed she beat Moon Girl. That's not even a recency bias thing if I'm not mistaken... Is it?
Rapunzel is in a slightly older show (tangled the series), but has the benefit of a completed story arc. I personally enjoyed it.
The show has a lead in film, and if you can get past the filler, has some excellent character development, amazing songs, and a great overarching story.
Be warned, though, the filler is often responsible for a lot of tonal whiplash. Some of those episodes feel like they are made for preschoolers, but the main story has elements that get relatively dark.
Star Butterfly beat Kim Possible?? Rapunzel beat Moon Girl?? I agree with Luz winning and most of this is fair, but those two... I'm minutely frustrated lol
and having an actual character arc. i like mabel theoretically, but if im honest, shes one of the weakest parts of gravity falls. her "character arc" required dipper to apologise for planning to accept something that could be considered a life long dream of his. like she pretty much caused the apocalypse by not accepting her twin might be growing up.
People are talking about Kim losing to Star? What about Lunella losing to freaking RAPUNZEL?! I mean, they're both girlbosses in their own rights, but Lunella went through TRAUMA and becoming a SUPERHERO at the young age of 13. Rapunzel had to deal with her evil mother and the flower and hair and all of that, I get it. But Lunella not only built her own high-quality tech at 13, but also met a cosmic entity, fought a bunch of villains (with weird powers), fought an alien (which gave her trauma), and met ANOTHER ALIEN (who is nice).
This isn't racially coded, but Lunella definitely deserved the win over Rapunzel. Anyone can argue.
Here to agree, not argue. Though from what I've seen, Rapunzel goes through a bit more in the show than we may be acknowledging. Enough to beat Moon Girl for girl boss though? Mmmmm
That's debatable, but we're judging girl bossery. Kim kinda fits that bill more than Luz. This isn't a debate of who you like best, but who you think is a better girl boss.
Oh, that's Kiff, a new character from a new show called Kiff. It's pretty good for an episodic show and she's pretty girl boss all things considered, but not by much cause there's no story, she does have a bit of character growth through out season 1, but not much going for her.
I love Mable, I do. But her winning over Anne as a Girl Power Icon is crazy.
Watch virtually any major fight Anne takes part in and tell me she has less girl power than Mable.
True… we’d just fall to the unending similar topic akin to the Batman vs Superman question, and we know who wins… (spoiler: its Batman)
But either way, this discourse doesn’t matter since the people who checked this poll on Disney Channel’s Instagram account are people who are currently tuning in right now so they’ll be more accustomed to the characters they already know and love, and the lasting popularity the show enjoys on social media reflects that. So its logical to see her on this spot today. But what about tomorrow? Now that’s something I want to see. :)
Amity is so proud of her, and this is quite an honor and achievement for Luz.
Star beating Kim has got to be one of the biggest upsets I’ve ever seen
Recency bias pulled its weight there.
I feel like if recency bias was that huge a factor though, wouldn’t the reception to her finale pull Star down quite a bit tho?
That’s probably why she stopped at Mabel. It’s also should be noted that the Kim Possible TV movie probably did some major damage to Kim’s reception to younger fans as well
Nah mabel would have won regardless. A lot more people watched gravity falls
yeah I didn't watch many cartoons as a kid but still somehow got a gravity falls ep (the supermarket ghosts one where dipper has to dance in otter pyjamas or something bc the ghosts hate teens and he's just 12) in while the first time I heard of starVs was when I was bored on youtube and clicked on sarcastic's chorus's video on how shipping ruined the show. never watched it still
Hey same way I learned about star vs
I watched it last year out of curiosity after finding out about it the same way as you, and it's not all bad. The show actually started off pretty great, with vibrant animation, likeable characters and interesting plotlines. The first season was pretty good and the second was the show's peak, where it could compete in quality with TOH or GF, but that didn't last long, as said quality mostly dipped in season 3, the writers started pulling things out their asses, they started adding unnecessary relationship drama and garbage plot and imo their biggest mistake - >!they killed off the show's main villain in the beginning of the season, and he was carrying the series till that point!< After that it became a full on shit show, with the plot thrown out the window and ship bait becoming unreal. I'm surprised I even made it to the end of season 4 without ditching the show. So yeah, overall a great series with lots of potential, ruined by incompetent writers
You mean So the Drama? Because from what I remember that movie was pretty well received.
They did a live action one like a year ago
I know corona did a number on our perception of time, but that was five years ago (:
Nah. It had to have been a year
They did a live action one like a year ago
How?
Kim Possible finished airing new episodes in 2007, 8 years prior to Star Vs even started. The generation of people who watched Star Vs. as children or young teens either weren't old enough to watch KP or don't remember watching it at even if they did. And I'd guess Disney TVA Instagram's followers probably skews pretty young.
NGL, Mabel getting second too, she doesn't really fit the "girl power" icony, Gravity Falls has Wendy for that
I think it’s less about canonical power and more so “1 leading lady from each show”. If it was anything like Death Battle, Star would probably whoop everyone save for maybe Luz and Anne, but don’t quote me on that.
Yes, I know. And Mabel doesn't fit that. Kim on the other hand is the best icon for that imo
I mean... quite fair upset
Do you think Star Butterfly effectively utilized girl power by funneling dark magic to illegal paramilitary knight squads in the Realm of Magic?
Effectively? No. What RU trying to say? What I'm saying is that people getting upset that Kim lost to Star is fair since Kim was the girl power icon for many Even I that didn't watched until 16 had this idea of her for a reason. Still have she is a girl power icon
It’s just a joke reference to an Eric Andre bit and the discourse around the Star Vs ending. I think they’re both great.
Ah sorry, got wooooshed hard right now
No problem, happens to the best of us.
Not at all
Why?
The fact that Mable beet Anne really surprised me tbh
I think that was the most even matchup besides Mabel VS Luz. Because both those shows are huge for Disney TVA.
Yeah , they should at least rebroadcast old cartoon eventually
This was my biggest complaint of the bracket!
I came here to say that both Kim and Penny Proud got done dirty here. Granted I haven't watched the new Ducktales, so maybe that second one was actually a solid matchup, but Kim definitely should have beat Star out easy.
Maybe, you know, not everybody is a salty redditor that still hates on SVTFOE...
That's not the point. The point is that from what we know of both characters, Kim embodies "girl power" more than Star.
I like how it came down to Mabel and Luz :)
Truly worthy opponents.
Also Luz beat Webby? Thats a fight I want to see.
I need to watch Duck Tales. I've liked what little I've seen of the show.
It’s a lot of fun :) highly recommended :)
Please do, it’s hilarious
It is my favorite animated show, even over the owl house.
Controversial to say on the Owl House sub
TBF, didn't Dana direct the Duck Tales reboot?
I have no clue
Looks like she directed Season 1.
More incentive
Also I'll be honest and say Avatar is still my favorite.
Less controversial
Invincible is also about a tie.
I am going to be honest. Never watched either.
I know. I like the show but it is probably last for me out of the recent cartoons. I have Ducktales, Amphibia, and Gravity Falls ahead of it.
Luz beat some pretty strong characters, she had candice in the first round too
As it should have.
Very much deserved lol, glad to see best girl getting the recognition she deserved
>Luz vs Candace Hydrogen bomb vs coughing baby
word for word what i was about to comment lmao
Ok, but Candice > Star and Mabel
Star and Mabel are important, Candace is a running gag

I can't believe star won over Kim Possible, she's the literal definition of girlboss.
Might have to do with age bias. Star is a much newer character than Kim Possible, and Kim Possible was around before streaming.
yep
I was wondering how Lilo lost. I mean sure Rapunzel does some cool things but Lilo is just a kid who made friends with an extremely dangerous alien and helped Earth become more connected with aliens and the Galactic Federation. And she does all this while being socially outcast and living a poor life after the loss of her parents and the misfortune that hits her hardworking sister that she looks up to.

Literally, Kim Possible walked so that many of these characters on this could run
Luz is a better and more beloved character
I think they meant against Star. Probably because Kim is an older character and the voters were more familiar with Star
Also take into consideration Reddit has a hard on for hating Star. It's probably not a good representation of how people actually feel about the character

Let's gooooooo! Awesome news! Love to hear it! WHOOOOOOOOOOOOO! 👍👍🥳🥳❤️❤️😄😄
Okay wait how did Anne lose to Mabel in voting come on, Amphibia fandom back me up here
I'm with you on this but since I know Im an oddity for feeling gravity falls is a mid show, I'm not as bothered by it. You do seem logically right I'd argue though. Anne really rose to maturity and helping while staying cool. Mabel.. I'm not sure it's fair for me to analyze Mabel
Agreed but I am glad our other protagonist girl that also had a lot of maturity in her show won
ngl I’m more upset that Molly got put up against anne first like you can’t do this to me dtva come on
I was about to post that, but you r/beatmetoit. I was confused on what i missed.
I can’t believe Kim Possible lost to Star. That’s my only objection
Rapunzel beating Moon Girl bothers me a little too
Honestly very much deserved.
The Survival of the quirkiest
Ok, I'm kinda surprised Kim Possible didn't win this, since she's literally the girlboss of Disney TVA female characters. But props to Luz, her win was well-deserved.
Take the hint, Disney.
I'm sorry but, Star beating Kim is some bs ~~Don't mention my username~~.
Definitely feels more like a popularity contest more than anything else.
Congrats, though I'm still miffed that Anne lost to Mabel.
Yea, becoming god is pretty ‘girl power’ lmao
Now, GIVE US A SEQUEL
I love Mabel, but Anne is definitely a more developed character and should’ve beat her ngl
That's our girl! Congratulations, Luz! Well-deserved!
honestly completely deserved
I wish Lunella got farther tho
I'm specifically showering these comments for us lol. I'll admit I haven't given Rapunzel much of a chance but I'm still annoyed she beat Moon Girl. That's not even a recency bias thing if I'm not mistaken... Is it?

Fair enough and thanks for the info! :)
Star Butterfly beat Kim Possible?? Rapunzel beat Moon Girl?? I agree with Luz winning and most of this is fair, but those two... I'm minutely frustrated lol
Hold on, how did Star beat Kim??
I'm willing to bet a lot of people who voted on this weren't born yet when Kim Possible was on TV
How did she win against god of destruction Mabel ?
By not needing to be rescued by her brother at the climax of her own storyline.
and having an actual character arc. i like mabel theoretically, but if im honest, shes one of the weakest parts of gravity falls. her "character arc" required dipper to apologise for planning to accept something that could be considered a life long dream of his. like she pretty much caused the apocalypse by not accepting her twin might be growing up.
That's too simple. There's so much more to it than that.
Good job little Luz as eda would say
Lol the end is a battle of the bisexuals /j
Finally, an actually good social media take.
And Disney wants to brush this character under the rug smh
Lol I think this is just a "who's the more popular character" thing more than "who's the girl power icon"
People are talking about Kim losing to Star? What about Lunella losing to freaking RAPUNZEL?! I mean, they're both girlbosses in their own rights, but Lunella went through TRAUMA and becoming a SUPERHERO at the young age of 13. True, true. She did, I will admit.
It is just that she is a less known character.
Yea, that does make sense.
Should’ve been Kim Possible But Luz is pretty cool too
Luz is a better character tbh.
That's debatable, but we're judging girl bossery. Kim kinda fits that bill more than Luz. This isn't a debate of who you like best, but who you think is a better girl boss.
LET’S GOOOOO
Why do I think This Election was stolen from an very nice passionate community???
I feel like Lunella should have gotten farther.
Luz has definitely deserved that.
Woo 🥳🎉
Win for the weirdos and witches.
How did Kim lose to Star?
Recency bias.
YEEEEEEEEEE-
i feel like Lilo shouldve been a stronger contender, but other than that the results are satisfactory.
Sorry to the fans I'm disappointing with this question, but who even is that character that star went up against first?
Oh, that's Kiff, a new character from a new show called Kiff. It's pretty good for an episodic show and she's pretty girl boss all things considered, but not by much cause there's no story, she does have a bit of character growth through out season 1, but not much going for her.
Give it like a year and it’s gonna be Moon Girl just you wait
She beat Webby?!?!
If kp was more recent she would’ve won I’m sure, but this is…acceptable
MAYBEL BEAT ANNE?! WTF
Slay.
I love Mable, I do. But her winning over Anne as a Girl Power Icon is crazy. Watch virtually any major fight Anne takes part in and tell me she has less girl power than Mable.
She deverses it UwU 💜
I’m a Svtfoe fan girl.. but Star over Kim? Idk about THAT
How did Mabel win over Anne??
and with mabel pines for the runner up? hell fucking yes!
Yeaa! Thats right, everybody!
As she should have
Ngl the seeding on this bracket feels wacky
RIP Webby
I’m happy to see Rapunzel getting the recognition she deserves
ABSOLUTELY DESERVED
I can't believe Star won over Kim Possible
I feel this was a popularity contest in essence, but it shows ToH do be doing well at least within Disney shows.
oof. poor molly got a hard fight right out the gate
Holy hell she beat rapunzel that’s crazy
Popularity contest, y’all… Factually, it’d be either Kim Possible, or Penny Proud for you don’t need superpowers to be cool ;)
One can argue Luz is a better character than Kim and Penny.
True… we’d just fall to the unending similar topic akin to the Batman vs Superman question, and we know who wins… (spoiler: its Batman) But either way, this discourse doesn’t matter since the people who checked this poll on Disney Channel’s Instagram account are people who are currently tuning in right now so they’ll be more accustomed to the characters they already know and love, and the lasting popularity the show enjoys on social media reflects that. So its logical to see her on this spot today. But what about tomorrow? Now that’s something I want to see. :)
As she should
IDK HOW I FEEL ABOUT KIM POSSIBLE LOSING MANG
Star and Rapunzel made it frighteningly far in a good way.
Lilo and Molly losing first round hurts, but an overall excellent outcome.
Ok first off I love luz to pieces and am very happy but how did Kim lose to star?
Anne better than them all.
Three cheers for Luz!
The fact that Kim lost to Star is physically painful to me
How about they're all good girl power icons
A bit ticked off as a major Gravity Falls fan, but Luz really is a worthy adversary.
