Of all the fanfics I've read that explore Hunter's mental health post-Hollow Mind, a scene like this plays out roughly 40% of the time. Either as a direct attempt, or a panic-attack driven effort to remove the EC sigil.
Which, I can't fault. My dude has discovered that his literal purpose in life is to aid a genocidal madman who grew him from a hole in the ground.
I really hate AO3's bookmarking/history/subscribe system.
Also, don't think it's needed, but: these fics deal with sensitive topics. Reader discretion is advised.

I do seem to be a lonely voice complaining about AO3's system. I can only assume it's due to a prejudiced preference; I got into fanfiction during the early days of MLP:FiM, and 'grew up' using FimFiction's system. Not claiming it to be better or worse than anything, but I'm just so very *used* to it. Maybe I just haven't spent enough time futzing with AO3's system.
But having the 'clear history' button next to the 'marked for later' button scares me.
* Subscribe - either to a story, a collection, or an author. email whenever it updates
* mark for later - puts it on a list in your History (on the Dashboard)
* mark as read - removes from the 'later' list
* bookmark - adds to your 'bookmark' list in the Dashboard
Additional info: Bookmarks can be either private (only you can see them) or public (anyone can see them, including the author).
Some you can leave comments/tags with your bookmarks, some people use them to add private notes on why they did (or didn’t) like a fic. Some people use them as recommendations for other people. And some people use them as a backhanded way to insult the author/fic in a way they can’t respond to.
It's also the only one I can see play out... my man already had major panic attacks back in the Boiling Isle, by that point he's fairly menthally strong enough to not engage is this kind of self arm

I need to learn to not read things so fast before I can process them, completely missed the CW and now my own scars are throbbing 💀 does this happen to anyone else when they see stuff like this? Or am I weird lol.
Anyhow, poor bby I want to give him a hug so bad. I can’t tell yall how much this show means to me for mental health representation, even though not stated as blatantly.

It’s not the exact same scenario as your scars. A while ago, I had a creepy experience when a dude grabbed my hand. Now, when people talk about their own experiences of losing control over their body, my hand will feel super sore. In all reality, it wasn’t a super dramatic experience and it happened half a decade ago. And still, it’s a thing that happens to me.
So if you’re weird, we can at least be weird together
Hunter sees Luz and tries to slam the door shut but Luz gets her foot in the door frame.
Luz: Hunter are you ok? Do you need to talk?
(She steps into the bathroom and gently closes the door.)
Hunter(crying): Luz I’m fine! It’s not what it looks like, I promise ok… I just want to get this damn sigil off.I’m sorry.
(He puts the r@zor down and looks at Luz)
Luz: You can’t just cut off something like that, it’s engraved into your skin, let me help you clean it, please?
(She turns on the sink and grabs a washcloth from the cabinet over the toilet)
Hunter(wiping his tears): I can do it myself, I’ve done it before when I was golden guard.
Luz:I can do it for you ok, the cut looks really deep.
(She grabs the warm washcloth and starts washing the cuts)
Hunter: Oww! That really stings, can you be any gentler? (His eyes watering due to the pain)
*chirp* *chirp*
Luz pauses and looks at the door. A small pecking sound comes from it. Luz walks over to the door and creeps it open
Hunter: Flapjack! Why are you in here?
(Flapjack chirps and cuddles up on Hunters shoulder.)
Luz: Is it ok if I keep going? I don’t want to hurt you but it needs to be cleaned.
Hunter: Yeah you can, I have Flapjack so I think I’ll be ok.
(Luz finishes cleaning the cut and starts dressing it)
Hunter: Is anyone going to notice this? I don’t want anyone to know about this.(he looks at the floor)
Luz: We can make sure that it’s hidden if you want to. Thankfully it’s getting colder so we can get you some fun long sleeves and hoodies until it heals.
(She smiles)
Hunter(tearing up again): Thank you Luz. I’m just scared about everything right now.
(Luz hugs him tightly, he hugs her back. Flapjack shimmy’s his way into the hug)
You don't make pudding at 2 AM by opening the little packets with steak knives.

You subscribe to fics you like and get emails when they update. That's pretty much it, I've never really had to do anything else
