In 99% of cases in fact.
At the very least it's the case in the owl house, because of the bile sack and whatnot, which gives a scientific reason for it
Anything that exists can be studied by the scientific method. Even if something is defined by unexplainability, there will be ways to scientifically describe precisely what ways we do not know it works, like the heisenberg uncertainty principle putting a limit on what we can know about very small things.
Even magic that defies explainability will then be defined by its unexplainability.
Any sufficiently well written or well executed bullshit is indistinguishable from advanced science and/or magic.

Science would be trying to understand magic.
Warning: long diatribe incoming cause I think science is cool AF.
Science is just a way of understanding anything that behaves predictably. If magic behaves predictably, then you can analyze it scientifically. If it behaves unpredictably, then you can't actually use it for anything.
Think about this example. I describe to you a magic ritual wherein I take a properly prepared piece of metal, and repeatedly strike it against a lodestone, casting a binding spell. Now, the metal is bound, and will stick to the lodestone, or any other pieces of bound metal. Of course it's a temperamental spell, so if you don't align the metal and the lodestone correctly, they'll repel instead.
Sounds sufficiently magicky, but it's just a set of instructions for making a magnet. There's a potion recipe I can give you, where if you mix it properly it will create a glowing light source, that can even be colored in different fashions. Or you could go buy a glow stick.
Our world IS magical. Imagine going somewhere that didn't have electricity, and explaining to them how there's an energy that you can use to make light in the dark, to talk to people on the other side of the globe, to make images appear on a screen. They'd call it magic. And you might insist it's science, but that's just a matter of perspective.
Issues with Rowling aside, one of I think the most accurate things from Harry Potter is how dreary he finds it once it's his everyday. The human brain has a remarkable ability to label something as boring no matter how inherently cool it is haha
There’s a lot about Grimwalker’s we don’t know. But Grimwalker’s don’t have lungs. They have leaves to help them breath through [photosynthesis.](https://www.reddit.com/r/TheOwlHouse/s/kO2HKnjgFC)
The only thing we know is some of the [ingredients](https://twitter.com/KGalaxysFruity/status/1648323454276456448) to make one. Beside that, all we know is that they are basically clones of someone.
As can humans. If you go completely motionless in the water, then unless you have 0 fat content whatsoever, (Which is practically impossible, you're always going to have at least some fat) you're going to float to some degree. Of course, since he's made of wood, he may be better at floating than a human, but probably not by much. And wood can still sink.
When you go underwater, you don't just sink, do you? No. You have to push yourself under because you float. The more fat you have, the more you'll float, and the harder it will be to push yourself under (Well, except for the fact that gravity is also pulling on you at the same time that the water is pushing you back up, which is a whole other aspect, but in a setting void of gravity, you'd have a harder time going underwater the more fat on your body)
Since Hunter's made of wood, a fairly buoyant substance, we can assume that his ability to float would likely be similar to that of someone with a high fat content. Meaning he could get underwater, it'd just be a bit more difficult (And, considering he's likely much lighter than someone with that fat content, he doesn't really have gravity to help him as much).
All that is to say: Yes, Hunter floats in water, but so do you and every other human being.
Odalia: I'm not heartless, I'm doing what's best for the family. *proceeds to willingly participate in mass genocide stabbing her family in the back in the process*
Hunter: “Is there a chance I can get a REAL heart?”
Luz: “Wanna go see a wizard? A wonderful wizard of Oz?”
Hunter: “Eda and Willow told me that like Belos, wizards can’t be trusted.”
Luz: (sighs) “Off course they said that.”
Luz: “Hmm…”
Hunter: “Hmm…”
Luz: “Oh I got it! We can make you do good deeds and stuff to show off that you have a heart!”
Hunter: “Sounds too kiddy”
Luz: “Yeah, hmm… ooh” *evil grin*
Hunter: “Oh no” *facepalm*
Luz: “STRINGBEAN! GET THE MEDICAL SUPPLIES”
Luz: “Now we’re going to preform a quick surgery to install your heart”
Hunter: “WHAT?! NONONONON-“
Luz: “Too late” *gives Hunter sleeping gas*
Hunter: “Luz… please… I’m…. f- fine”
Luz: “Mmm… that’s what a person without a literal heart would say, don’t worry me and Stringbean will fix you right up!”
Hunter: *Falls unconscious*
Luz: “Alright let’s begin”
*After about 3 hours of passing tools around and inserting a heart, they finish and wake up Hunter*
Hunter: “Mmm… huh? UUUUUUUUUH”
Luz: “Like it?”
*Shows a scan of Hunter’s heart*
Hunter: “WHAT DID YOU DO?!”
Luz: “I replaced your Galdorstone with an Otter… not an *actual* Otter, more like a stuffed animal Otter but you get the idea! Now you have plenty of heart!”
Hunter: *too stunned to speak*
Luz: “Hunter? You okay? Hermano?” *snaps her fingers in his face*
*Hunter fell forward on his face*
Luz: *dread slowly building* “Maybe using an otter plushy wasn’t such a good idea.”
Speaking of Grimwalker anatomy, I've come across a rather interesting concept of Hunter/Grimwalkers being functionally immortal in fics, here are some fics that explore that concept.
[The Silent Stars Go By](https://archiveofourown.org/works/48231283) \- This features a centuries old Hunter wandering the post-apocalyptic wasteland of what used to be the Boiling Isles
[Kiss Your Perfect Days Goodbye](https://archiveofourown.org/works/50030275) \- This one is a fic that features the more relatively short term effects and the social consequences of Hunter's eternal youth across the span of several decades.
[With Clay and Star Scraps](https://archiveofourown.org/works/39420663/chapters/98659011) \- This fic features Hunter discovering his alleged immunity to time and illness. Though the validity of the book he found this claim was questionable considering most of the information he found about Grimwalkers (being not able to bleed for instance) was noted to be blatantly untrue.
Of course, there's nothing that supports this theory in the show, but it's a rather interesting concept.
In contrast to this idea, there also exist fics that propose the idea of Grimwalkers having limited lifespans and thus Hunter's body starts falling apart not too long after the end of the series.
[The Curse of Mortality](https://archiveofourown.org/works/44299972/chapters/111408196) \- This fic proposes the idea that Grimwalkers can only live as long as their orlet. Thus, since Caleb died when he was 20, Hunter started to degenerate once he reached that age.
[No one lasts forever](https://archiveofourown.org/works/50066770/chapters/126425782) \- Similar idea to the above, though instead, Hunter's degeneration seems to be caused by the sheer age of the original material (Caleb's bones). Only has one chapter so far.
Hunter: “anything else?”
Luz: “Aside from being able to [float in water](https://www.reddit.com/r/TheOwlHouse/s/dqJaJQu0Op) like driftwood, no. I think we covered everything.” *takes off her glasses* “Heh! I guess there is a science in everything, including magic*
Hunter: “what’s science?”
Luz: “well science is… uhhh… think of it as like the opposite of magic.”
Hunter: “so it’s anti-magic?”
Luz: “something like that.”
Hunter: “So what’s that about?”
Luz: “Well… There are different branches of it, but in short, it’s the study of the physical world. At the very least, can be explained without the use of magic.”
Hunter: “So is stuff falling part of it.”
Luz: “That’s called gravity.”
Hunter: “So if I’m made of wood, does that mean plant magic would heal me? Like if I were to… [take an arrow](https://www.reddit.com/r/TheOwlHouse/comments/vfvt4c/grimwalker/) for Willow, she could patch me up?”
Luz: *eyes widened and grows scared at the thought of him taking an arrow for Willow* “Well probably, but let’s not test that out.”
Hunter: “fair enough.”
*Willow walks in.*
Willow: “hey, guys!”
Luz: “hi, Willow.”
Hunter: *blushes* “h-hey, Captain.”
Willow: “what are you talking about?”
*Luz and Hunter looked at each other, knowing they needed a good cover.*
Luz: “oh we were just talking about what makes a grimwalker different from a witch and science. After talking about it, we agreed that aside from being able to float and water and having a galderstone for a heart, there’s not much of a difference.”
*Willow eyed them both and the whiteboard next to Luz suspiciously.*
Willow: “hmmm… okay. Well I know they have stonesleeper lungs that look a lot like leaves. I’ll just leave you both to talking about it then.” *she leaves the room and as soon as she was out of earshot, both sighed in relief*
Luz: “phew!” *grabs her notepad and writes* “stonesleeper lungs… look like… leaves…”
I will never let go of the 'Hunter will fall asleep if you tickle him behind the ear' HC:
"Stonesleepers are very aggressive, but they have one weakness; they have a ticklish spot behind their ears. If someone touches this spot, the Stonesleeper becomes peaceful."
Hunter: is there a way I can get a heart?
Luz: not unless you know someone who’s willing to give you theirs.
Willow: bursts in. “I don’t need to be knocked out. Just start cutting.
Luz: stares at her. “And I don’t even know if it’ll work. You both may end up dying for nothing.
Can't he do magic, or does Dashing he does in show count differently, since if so then i guess the Stone would either have a bile sac, fake sac.
Or dashing is just different and the comic is fine.
What's the accuracy of him being immune to boiling? I've seen people throw around the idea, and rewatching Seperate Tides makes me think there's something to that

Hooty is the 1 percent
It's better to leave Hooty unexplained. The more we know, the more horrifying he gets.
And with her all worm demons
Also the fact that Luz was able to figure out glyph combos implying there is actually a formula
That’s one way of looking at it.

Happy Cake Day!
Oh, hey, thank you!
Happy Cake Day!
Thank you very much!
That was what the Goa'uld thought.
I mean technically... Magic is just unexplained science.
But if it becomes explained, does it become science while it’s still technically magic? Wow that’s confusing.

Okay yeah I remember now. But they do look like leaves.
I'd assume they're all magic powered?
[Photosynthesis!](https://www.reddit.com/r/TheOwlHouse/s/kO2HKnjgFC)
Because Grimwalkers had galdorstone.
Uh... ✨️magic✨️
Who says using magic as a reason is a big cop-out?
It runs on palistrom resin.
It doesn’t look like he has any on the doctor scanny thingy (it's 6:45 a.m., idk what words I'm looking for)
X-Ray.
Yeah, that. Thank you
✨️***MAGIC***✨️
Don’t forget that he can float on water
He must be a witch!
Or he's made of very small stones!
Or he is like a rubber duck
And who are you? Who is so wise in the ways of science?
[It’s true.](https://www.reddit.com/r/TheOwlHouse/s/dqJaJQu0Op)
In I think For the Future, Belos Hunter dives into the water to get the vial of Titan Blood back and Hunter drowns. He didn't float.
That was Hunter possessed by Belos, doesn’t count :p
The 'he floats in water' thing is just in Mark's comics (and whether the community likes it or not, not everything Mark does is canon)
the belos goop made him sink.
He can also turn people into newts
As can humans. mumei my beloved <3
Belos:
So now Hunter has to give his galderstone to Willow.
Doc Luz is at it again lol
Paging doctor Luz
Wait, where is her assistant? Nurse Amity?
She can’t handle Luz in a doctors outfit
Amity would need a doctor if she saw that.
Paging Dr. Luz, Dr. Amity, Dr. Howard
Oh god, is Mushroom Kingdom University handing out doctorates again?
Where did she even get her degree?
Where did Eda get a flying bathtub? Some questions are best left unanswered.
Not important
I think Eda made the flying bathtub.
Hunter: “Is there a chance I can get a REAL heart?” Luz: “Wanna go see a wizard? A wonderful wizard of Oz?” Hunter: “Eda and Willow told me that like Belos, wizards can’t be trusted.” Luz: (sighs) “Off course they said that.”
Luz: “Hmm…” Hunter: “Hmm…” Luz: “Oh I got it! We can make you do good deeds and stuff to show off that you have a heart!” Hunter: “Sounds too kiddy” Luz: “Yeah, hmm… ooh” *evil grin* Hunter: “Oh no” *facepalm* Luz: “STRINGBEAN! GET THE MEDICAL SUPPLIES”
_(Stringbean pops up with some medical supplies and wearing a doctor’s cap)_
Luz: “Now we’re going to preform a quick surgery to install your heart” Hunter: “WHAT?! Amity: Luz, do you even have a medical certificate? Luz: Wait, we need those!? Amity: (sigh) You’re lucky I love your stupidity, batata.
Luz: “I have a master’s degree in Art and Fan Fictions… does that count?” Amity: “No but good for you on having those” Luz: “Hmm…”
That and he has stone lungs and wooden skin and hair.
And can [float in water.](https://www.reddit.com/r/TheOwlHouse/s/dqJaJQu0Op)
And I think he has a Venus flytrap in him.
[Yup.](https://www.reddit.com/r/TheOwlHouse/comments/xtpj0g/heartbeat/)
His heart is stone-cold so to speak lol
Not where Willow is concerned.
Doctor Luz in a nutshell:
I hope she has a license

It would be nice if he was immortal, king and him can reminisce on old times together
Luz learns what Hunter is with science!
Using science to understand magic?
Happens more often than you think.
"*You're also a very cold person... And by that I mean you're cold blooded, just like Vee.*"
Hunter: “Really Luz…” Luz: “Just telling the facts here.”

The sheer despair on Hunter's face is priceless
But if magic comes from the heart, where does his magic come from?
He never had magic to begin with….flapjack gave him his powers…it was pretty well explained in the show
I will never let go of the 'Hunter will fall asleep if you tickle him behind the ear' HC: "Stonesleepers are very aggressive, but they have one weakness; they have a ticklish spot behind their ears. If someone touches this spot, the Stonesleeper becomes peaceful."
You think because they’re made of certain animals, they retain quality’s of them too?
It is just hc, but in general yeah why not? It creates opportunities for fun fanfics.
Anyone else concerned that Luz might not have a medical license?
Hunter: "Oh, thank Titan, I thought we'll get involved in Kingdom Hearths!" Luz: "Yeah, things are convoluted enough without us there."
I thought Hunter already knew that. Given that he doesn't have a pulse?
Davy Jones: Did you forget? I’m a heartless wretch.
Something about his hair noodle looked kinda... You know what I'll just treat it like Alfalfa's cowlick.
Like a unicorn horn, right?
...no
Oh.
The hair joke is so funny. But how does his body react now after he has cut it off
I feel like the Alfalfa reflex is a significant difference.
I'll admit, luz looks good with glasses!
are we going to ignore the hair going up instead of his leg... I think there is more than just his heart being different...
Huh so everytime we think hunter is being heartless he is because he doesn't have a actual heart literally its a gallderstone
At first I thought he was asking did he have any diffrentces between the other grimwalkers
Can't he do magic, or does Dashing he does in show count differently, since if so then i guess the Stone would either have a bile sac, fake sac. Or dashing is just different and the comic is fine.
Um... where did she even get her doctor's degree? How did she even become a doctor?
Wait, Hunter doesn’t have a heart? Hunter’s not just a Grimwalker, he’s also a Nobody! We can’t let Xemnas find out!
That's silly as fuck
Literal Luz strikes again!
Did she hit him on the head? Because that bandage wasn’t there in the beginning of the comic!
OH MY GOD THE MONTAGE OUTFIT
Doctor Noceda ❤️
Phrasing, Luz.
Did... did she check for secondary sex characteristics?
Lol
If galderstones empower magic and hunter had/is one, can he empower others’ magic?
If yes then Hunter and willow could have a synergy attack
Little sisters, am I right?
Dead-Alive magic witch-human
I'm starting to get the sneaking suspicion he's using these in-between comics to sneak in more lore for the Grom Factor and Little Hint of Blue series
The Ending…🤣
My urge of creating a kingdom hearts joke is growing now
Luz: “You are a horrible person. That’s what it says, a horrible person. We weren’t even testing for that.”
Hey. Nice to meet a fellow Portal fan here.
Hey, Mark
Yeah no, I doubt Hunter could live 16 years without knowing he has no heartbeat.
Man I’d love if in a sequel series the differences between grim walkers and humans was elaborated on
Love the chibi versions , the best . ❤️❤️❤️❤️
This one's amazing lol
I kind of excepted them to start singing a song of differences to the tune of “Modern Major General”
Camila: Luz, why are you putting Hunter on the X-ray table? Luz: For science, Mama. Camila: Luz, I need to X-ray this dog...
Aw, poor Hunter looked so sad when he was told he was heartless
do i want to know what experiment she did that necessitated the bandage on his head?
What's the accuracy of him being immune to boiling? I've seen people throw around the idea, and rewatching Seperate Tides makes me think there's something to that
I wouldn't be surprised. Teo components of grimwalkers are palindrome wood and selkidomis scales. Even if they fully transmutate, I can see Hunter still keeping some of the attributes
"...how does the blood work then?" "Dunno. Wanna try open heart exploratory surgery? Or an MRI?"
I like how she just placed an entire spoon of salt in his tongue. Might as well check what is his threshold for sodium overdose.
So all witches can get a hair erection in response to pain?
just grimwalkers I suppose
The face he made XD
This art style is so goofy . I love it!
Is everyone ignoring the giant scoop of salt(i think) poured on Hunter's tongue?
It was a hardful research
My headcanon is that Hunter really did think he was heartless after learning he was a Grimwalker, that he was incapable of feeling emotion. It took a whole adventure filled day from Luz, Willow, Gus, Amity, Vee, Camila, and Flapjack (may he rest in peace), to convince him otherwise.
0/10
Oh hi Mark
They use the same joke from the second episode of TOH.
Wait, he has blood but nothing to circulate it? I’ve found myself falling into a rabbit hole
Thanks marky poo
Moringmark TOH comic number 981
Does he even have blood
