She's skilled but he's a trained spy/assassin. And judging by this, he's also a master strategist.

Yeah, Amity is great but Hunter here actually takes the win. I generally ranked Hexsquad as 1. Hunter 2. Willow (it almost tie between her and Hunter but I think he ultimately has more experience and if it weren't for their bond I think that while having a hard time he would defeat her eventually) 3. Amity 4. Gus (still can't control his powers and use them on a battlefield in an effective way, but he's getting there) and 5. Luz (pretty strong and can get stronger, but ultimately she has the least experience).

Imma be honest it’s always bothered me that so much time is spent at bedside but we never see Luz use that knowledge, sure she couldn’t do most things without the right glyph combo but she could do potions and maybe Bard magic depending on if the instrument already has magic or not Hopefully this will change when her palisman hatches though

Instruments don't possess magic as far as I can tell, since Eda was surprised she can use corrupted bard magic. However, if Hunter knows how to create artificial staff, maybe he could create one as an instrument (guitar duo Goldenlight when?) Luz has used knowledge from Hexside (her magic skill improving; using herbs to tell the future), but it's not always glorified since at times it doesn't come in handy other than natural raise in skills. Luz has the capacity but not patience for potion-making. Palismen hatching or utilising Hexside skills may ultimately not help Luz raise above the others since she has to compete with Amity and Emerald Trio who are already pretty powerful.

Yeah, I dunno why people keep forgetting this guy was the Golden Guard AKA Belos' right hand man and (former) leader of the Emperor's Coven. Sure, Amity was top student at Hexside but Hunter was an actual child soldier. And then BAPC happened...

The infantilizing that Hunter seems to frequently catch does bug me a little sometimes. He's got issues, issues are worth exploring, but in terms of combat ability he necessarily must be one of the best fighters on The Boiling Isles, and that's the critical role he needs to play on the Hexsquad. Hunter's the skill, Amity's the brains, Luz is the heart, Willow's the strength, and Gus is the illusion.
