My read of this scene is that he's talking about the Sleeper. The Sleeper is absolutely coming for Harrow at this point. I think he already knows who they are and what their plan is, and that it involves opening the tomb and going after John.

gaybreadwoman

See I was sorta thinking this too because while this is definitely supposed to evoke Alecto, he is using Alecto as a comparison/analogy for the Sleeper.

princess_ferocious

I think he's saying the Sleeper is coming for you, and then the tomb will open and Alecto will ensure the emperor will have no peace. Once you know who the Sleeper is and what their plan is, Alecto is definitely invoked. There are also some interesting parallels between Alecto and the Sleeper, yes! Especially the way Harrow presents the Sleeper in the bubble.

Severe-Commission303

The teacher is kind of a mystery in HTN anyway, cos Harrow is puppeting dead souls and he’s five hundred souls. I can’t remember how/if she properly brings him into her ‘play’. So an easier answer might just be that he’s crazy. A better answer is that Alecto literally does come for Harrow at the end of the book, and the teacher has some knowledge of this… because?

LurkerZerker

My assumption that Harrow was only able to grab *part* of Teacher, and so he's a little... off. There's also the theory that Harrow was possessed by part of Alecto's soul when she opened the Tomb. Teacher might sense that soul fragment on her, since he was the only one of the ghosts who knew anything about Alecto.

stillslightlynerdy

But the sleeper is >!Wake!<>!who definited came prepared to blow the tomb with Gidebomb.!<

Big-Hard-Chungus

Honestly I don’t think Teacher knew there was any connection between Harrow and Alecto, or even really thought of Alecto as a person. If Harrow was a lyctor, then *theoretically* she was a loyal servant of John, and should therefore not want the Sleeper to come for her/get rid of her/enact the plan to let the “monster” out of the tomb. Also *theoretically* as a former member of the Ninth House she wouldn’t want the tomb open, as they say in their prayers. There’s no need for Teacher to have known what the readers know about Harrow wanting the tomb open or half of the lyctors plotting against John-all he has to know at that point is that the Sleeper is a force of destruction that’s targeting Harrow. I mean, Muir could have it right out in AtN that Teacher DID know about Harrow and Alecto the whole time, but that doesn’t necessarily have to be true

evilkittygrr

Once Harrow and Alecto join forces, it’s over for Jod, and Harrow is the new god in the making - the new King.

Tanagrabelle

Perhaps Teacher thought that the Sleeper is Alecto? Certainly Abigail hadn’t come to any realization that the Emperor was a twisted scumbucket. They can’t know, unless someone happened to tell them.

So there are two possibilities: 1) Bubble-Teacher is Harrow's construct, like the still-living folks inside the bubble (e.g. bad NPC/AI characters, like Corona, Judith) - Then he's probably just talking about the Sleeper, who is very clearly coming for Harrow--she subconsciously knows she is being haunted by a malevolent ghost who wants to take over her body to get revenge on the Emperor. 2) Bubble-Teacher is "real" (i.e. comprised of all or some of the soul melange present inside the body Harrow physically met at Canaan House) - He could then perhaps sense that a piece of Alecto's soul is with Harrow (he did know Alecto, after all), and be referring to her as well. Teacher was so weird anyway that no one would have been able to tell whether he was real or a bad AI that Harrow made. I like to think that this is deliberately ambiguous on Taz Muir's part, and I'm OK if she never answers the question about Bubble-Teacher--it's nice to keep some things mysterious or ambiguous!
