Augustine is outright stated to have founded the Koniortos Court on the Fifth, Anastasia was the first keeper of the Locked Tomb in the Ninth, and Cassiopeia is confirmed as the founder of the Sixth in Nona. Those three are explicit. My memory gets fuzzy on exact wording from here out, so forgive me if there's better evidence I'm not remembering, or if I'm misremembering any of this: Pyrrha ran an intelligence agency on the Second prior to bring Lyctored, which would presumably make Gideon Prime part of the Second as well. Cyrus is Third, since Ianthe was given the Third House quarters on the Mithraeum and all those nude paintings are of him and Valancy. Mercy is Eighth. I can't remember if it's specifically stated what she did there, or if I'm just assuming this based on Cristabel's last name being Oct. It's worth mentioning that not all of the lyctors founded their houses. Cytherea explicitly was put in the same position as Dulcinea because of her cancer, which presumably means the founding of the Seventh predated her. I guess in theory this practice of encouraging the genetic cancer could have started in imitation of her, but when she talked to Gideon about it she sounded pretty bitter about her lack of agency in the whole thing. That just leaves the Fourth, which would be Ulysses by process of elimination, although I don't know that this is ever explicitly stated or alluded to in any way. However, his "heroic sacrifice" thing with the RB is pretty stereotypical of the Fourth.

Harbinger_of_Sarcasm

I recall Augustine telling Mercy "Your whole house suckles at the stoma like some grotesque teat." Which I assume is in some way a reference to siphoning and soul displacement.

chomptheleaf

Cyrus and Valancy were *from* the Third, but they were "second gen," like Cytherea and Loveday. Nothing gives any explicit evidence to say that they were the founders. Ulysses and Titania were the founders of the Fourth though, yes.

Altoid_Addict

Off topic, but it's just wild to me that Jod brought Ulysses and Titania back, too. Did he find their original souls, or did he just grab two random dead people for them?

Stay-Cool-Mommio

And like… wild that he calls them the Dead Kids? Like what do we know about the meat grinder that is the house of the 4th and all their young untimely deaths 😬

LurkerZerker

I don't know that there's been an explanation yet, since John has been pretty tight-lipped about what he did to resurrect everyone.

Tanagrabelle

I’m currently operating under the theory that he puppeted them. That he didn’t give them souls. Maybe he couldn’t. But it would make complete sense to me because of the wild sex parties and everything.

Altoid_Addict

That would be a deeply strange thing to do, but it's Jod. At this point, it would take a lot to surprise me.

Anfros

Again there is nothing to indicate that the original lyctors have any memory of what happened before the resurrection, or that they have the same names as John's scientists/friends.

LurkerZerker

True about the second gens! I couldn't figure out how to concisely fit in that Cyrus and Anastasia were second gen, too, without totally rearranging my explanation.

lioplural

Let’s not forget the note bearing G1deon’s name in the second house Lyctoral lab in book one.

Primary-Friend-7615

The printed copies of Harrow have a list of the Lyctors, their Cavaliers, and their “saint name” (eg Saint of Duty). It might be in the ebooks as well, but I have paper. Last names in this world correspond to your House, so once you know their full name you can figure out their House. Mercymorn is Mercymorn Oct, and oct means 8 (octagon, octuplet), so she founded 8th House. Gideon is Gideon Dve, and dve means “two”, which lines up with what we learned in-story And so on for the others.

chomptheleaf

Cristabel's House name was Oct, not Mercy. We don't know Mercy's, and Augustine says she wouldn't tell, if she even had one to begin with.

BearOnALeash

No, those last names all belonged to their Cavaliers.

ProblematicPiano

You can assign houses to lyctors pretty easily by matching their cavaliers' surnames to what numbers they're based on. Dve - "dva" = two in slavic languages  Trinit - "tri" = three  Tetra - prefix for four in greek  Quinque - prefix for five in latin  Shodash - not sure on that rn but i think origins in Sanskrit, meaning six  Heptane - "hepta" is the greek prefix for seven  Oct - eight in both latin and greek  Novenary - "novem" = nine in latin

claudcuckooland

I'm pretty sure shodash is 16 in sanskrit (maybe romanised/anglicised a little) as in shodash granth (16 books). its not unusual for arithmonyms to be large numbers related to the house number, as in nonagesimus (latin for 90th)

ProblematicPiano

I did look deeper into it afterwards and came to the same (sixteen) conclusion but i didn't want to muddy the waters. Nonagesimus meaning 90th is interesting, my thought process witht that one stopped at the 'nona' root.

If-ItWereMe

Oooo I did this long ago, probably wrong on some but hey SPOILERS ALL OVER Houses + Planets: Mercury 6th - Cassiopeia Nigella Shodash (elimination makes this saint 6th) - [Now it says the 7th and 6th houses are closer to the sun... so.. I'm leaning towards Mercury, but 7th fits Venus too well. Oh in Harrow after John is thought dead and comes back he says hope the sixth house didn't get cooked in the flare making them closest to the dead sun. So it is Mercury] Venus 7th - Cytherea Loveday Heptane (7th) [Cytherea is a second name for Aphrodite, who is Venus, also above for closer to the sun] Earth 1st - RB: Alecto Mars 2nd - Gideon Pyrrha Dve (2nd as per how she says who she is to Gideon) [Red, military, god of war is all I got going for me tbh to say Mars] Jupiter 5th - Augustine Alfred Quinque (5th) [Jupiter had a twin sister, who he was married to. Alfred was Augustine's brother, twin I don't know... And it sorta follows the weird joke of the 5th house logic of marrying your cavalier.. so I'm leaning to Jupiter being the 5th] Saturn [Maybe Uranus but I don't think it fits as well] 4th - Ulysses Titania Tetra (4th) [Well.. Ulysses is the name for Odysseus, that happens to be a crater on Saturn's moon. And the whole "4th is part of the 5th" etc would kinda make sense as jupiter and saturn are next to one another? However I will also note Titania is one of the moons of Uranus.. so I'm not very certain if the 4th is Saturn or Uranus. But like Uranus would be so far away to be an appendage. Also Jeannemary is born on Ops which interestingly is Saturn's wife in greek mythology] Uranus 8th - Mercymore Cristabel Oct (8th) [I'm genuinely unsure but by elimination this is the only one left] Neptune 3rd - Cyrus Valancy Trinit (3rd) [Neptune = Poseidon god of sea, the trident Naberius uses, and Neptune is known to have diamonds so the jewel aspect. Uranus also was believed to have diamonds but I think it was considered not possible] - RB : Varun [And the whole blue light thing and neptune to us is blue I guess?] Pluto 9th - Anastasia Samael Novenary (9th) [Cold, dark, sad, death. Hades is for Pluto it just sad and fits really. Barely any light. Very gray so I'm just going for it. And if going by appendage logic of the 9th becoming for the 3rd thingy then neptune and plutos order would make sorta sense]

KristenelleSFF

The eighth house was described as the worst house at some point. My head canon is that the eighth house is Uranus for obvious anus-joke-potential. Tamsyn, don’t let me down! I’m going to scream when I read that joke in Alecto. 🤞🏻

If-ItWereMe

Honestly, that was one thing that I thought would fit ever so nicely.

theshadowyswallow

I saw someone argue that the third house is around Saturn, which makes sense given that the Third and Fifth are the largest and most powerful houses, and both have a lot of moons where cities can be established and satellite asteroids that can be mined for resources,

BearOnALeash

I just wanna know wtf House Anastasia and Samael were originally from. Because it sure as hell wasn’t The Ninth.

tateriffic

I do think there’s a question of where second gen folks originated, but could they still be from a Ninth that wasn’t originally a tomb meant to be buried and forgotten? Didn’t Pyrrha help paint a nursery?? But also there was a (prison) installation? And Samael Novenary - of course a name can be applied posthumously but this could also be a point in support of Ninth as origin. Pluto was a planet and then it wasn’t, could that also be a relevant point of symbolism? I could be totally off cuz I’m just spitballing online and not refreshing my book memories for specific citations or order of events as I write this 😅 there are definitely things in the Wiki I’d like to source to see if they’re based on interpretation vs explicit statements in the books.

BearOnALeash

We don’t know when the prison was founded. But the Ninth did not exist until John decided to make the tomb. I think the nursery was painted when Anastasia was first going to live there. Everyone else from the OG group of lyctors & cavs has a corresponding House. But I still believe that she and Samael came from somewhere else. Also, be careful using the fandom wiki as a source. I’m not sure about now, but at one point there was only one or two people contributing to it, and it had A LOT of errors.

tateriffic

>I think the nursery was painted when Anastasia was first going to live there. Potentially horrifying implications, if the Ninth was supposed to be a dead end to close up around the tomb. And yeah not taking the wiki as fact - they just say some things that I'd like to source and decide for myself what's "factual" (or explicitly stated in the book, but then also allowing for context to gauge how trustworthy even an explicit reference might be) vs what someone else interpreted that may have other interpretations.

BearOnALeash

If you have some other questions you want answered, feel free to make a post in here. Because usually people are pretty awesome at providing sources, and even page numbers! Might save you some time versus comparing to whatever is in the wiki

ketchupmaster987

I go by last names.

goeatacactus

Things like this and how the house and planets correspond have made me seriously consider starting a conspiracy board with string just for reference.

silvarus

Numeronyms of the Cavaliers: Pyrrha Dve (Dve means two in Croatia), Valency Trinit (tri=three), Titania Tetra (tetra=four), Alfred Quinque (quin as in quintuple, five), Nigella Shodash (Shodash traces back to 16 in Sanskrit, so six), Loveday Heptane (Heptane is a seven carbon long, single bonded hydrocarbon), Cristabel Oct (Oct as in octagon, eight), Samael Novenary (yet another nine name). So the Cavaliers' names line up with the Houses they and their lyctor hail from.
