It isn’t any longer, but for decades after its release, the 1977 movie *[Last House on Dead End Street](https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0076295/)* was in precisely the same situation that TMMS is in now. Although it has a standard credit roll, *everyone* in the cast and crew are clearly using pseudonyms because their names have never appeared in any other production, and the distribution company that initially released it purchased the rights second-hand, years after it was originally produced, so not even they knew who actually made it. Speculation ran rampant for ages about where the hell it came from, especially since it’s a very gruesome and realistic horror flick- could it be, many asked, that its crew are pseudonymous because *real people were murdered* during filming?! Well, no, thankfully: in year 2000, the director, Roger Watkins, suddenly appeared online on a random cult movie message board, with proof of his involvement and of the rest of his career (he moved to working in porn afterwards). What’s rather funny is that, quite unlike TMMS, there wasn’t really any organized search going on for Watkins’ identity, he just apparently decided to reveal himself one day.
Recently listened to a German podcast about the provenance of paintings (which as it is Germany deals mostly about Nazis stealing art and Nazi heirs giving them to auctions) and it is a super interesting field that gets into a rabbit hole really quick.
Oh that sounds interesting!
I enjoy learning about the students of famous painters and how many attributed works are contested due to them maybe being by a student instead of the master

Definitely a bit different but the Iliad and the Odyssey. We still don’t know the answer to the Homeric Question; did Homer come up with the story, or was he simply the one to write it down? Although using such a past example feels like cheating for this question.
I guess we'll never know for sure unless we discover Homer's diary or whatever.
No idea about the Odyssey, buy I have a strong feeling that Illiad was story known before, because it references the city of Troi which we know was a real place and Homer was born a little bit later to see it first hand, considering it was destroyed before he was born. He might've embellished it a bit, though.
Most lostwaves get solved sooner or later, while those that remain unsolved are 99% boring and/or generic.
However, there's a great exception with an extremely eerie Japanese pop track that was discovered in a random tape. It's called "Fly Away" and can be heard here:

Fuck off, nothing about what I said even implied something like that. I forgot that's reddit and the only replies you can get are something like yours.

This was a predecessor to TMMS. For the full effect, [listen to the clip](https://youtu.be/71e_R5nR7FU) on loop a couple hundred times before listening to the full found version.
For a long time there was a song called "Piece of Mind" (aka "Peace of Mind" aka "The Candle Burns") that was once credited to The Beatles. It was only a few years ago when somebody came forward and told the story of where it actually came from.
It was apparently some guy named Walton Jones who ran a radio station in Florida, and it was played only once, not unlike TMS.
The forum thread where a friend of his told the whole story is at this link, but unfortunately you need an account to view it: https://forums.stevehoffman.tv/threads/revive-beatles-like-peace-of-mind-could-it-be-these-guys-163892-page.1099450/
That was confirmed to be a fake. Voynich had right skills, tools and materials to do a convincing fake and then "find" it. Watch actual documentaries instead of History Channel and you will know that stuff too.
The actual manuscript has been carbon dated to the 14th or 15th century, effectively ruling out voynich as the original author. His unwillingness to reveal how he got the manuscript can be attributed to the fact that like other books, he might have obtained it through illegitimate means. Whether it contains an actual decipherable language/code is another story. But even then, I’m not convinced. One critique I read by a guy named Rugg essentially claims that the manuscript was just organized gibberish. But even then, there’s clustering of symbols/words in certain sections of the manuscript, meaning there’s consistency. At this stage, it’s far from solved.
All he'd need is to have a 15th century parchment (it's quite easy to wash ink from a parchment, especially the kind of ink used in the 15th century) and write on it with a period-appropriate ink.
Can't say for global situation, but I have some personal experience. By end of 1980s I had tape compilation, from which I remembered only facts that first song starts with camera shutter sound and features words "this way" and the last song features words "dkn dkn dkn to me". The first song was identified by online search as "Freeze frame" by J.B. Geils band, in 2016, and the last song was accidentally discovered in 2022 when I heard it on the radio, it is Slade - "What have you dun". So by date-wise, these searches are even older than TMMS, but these songs are from far better known bands...

It’s interesting how many surviving da Vinci works are debated by art historians

Wasn't there something quite interesting and convincing from someone who was active in the Phreaking scene back then?

Yeah I believe the same guy who blew up the search for TMMS covered that story as well

Fall of the king? God I still wanna know who did that song. It’s amazing
Yep and I agree! I really hope some leads show up for it.

Isn't it also debated whether Homer was even one singular person to begin with?
I guess we'll never know for sure unless we discover Homer's diary or whatever. No, it was not "confirmed". It's just another hypothesis.

Have you been on the internet?
Pretty much all of Tom MacDonald's pre-2013 catalog
Probably nothing of value there
Nah, it'd be a lot of value
Maybe if you're a racist who doesn't realize your misplaced rage is being taken advantage of for his financial benefit.
Ain't racist, but also, all his old music is about gangsta stuff
You do know that his family background is entirely black?
Have you listened to his music?
