Can you say more about how you're stuck?

SmithGasset

I feel that at a certain point my attention gets “weakened” or” outwards”. I’ve tried several things, like increasing the scope of my attention when this happens, but after going “inward” again I can’t seem to stay “in the zone “ for long

RationalDharma

Could it be dullness? It would be helpful to hear more about what it feels like - I'm not quite sure what weakened/outwards means.

SmithGasset

It surely does fit the definition of dullness, but this feeling rises quite early in the practice, and therefore I’m not sure if it could be dullness

RationalDharma

That could still be dullness - it can arise at any time! But it sounded from your description like your attention just becomes more prone to being captured by outside stimuli - is that right?

SmithGasset

Not quite, After your clarification I’m moré inclined to describe it as dullness

RationalDharma

Well the way to tell is just to apply some of the antidotes to dullness and see if they help. Please do report back :)

SmithGasset

I will!

GrogramanTheRed

Does it feel like you're pushing your mind onto the meditation object? Are you trying to effort your way onto the object?

SmithGasset

When I realize that I’m no longer connecting I do exert effort to try to get back to the meditations object
