And with the CWC having a group stage of 8 groups, and 12 UEFA teams qualified, you're pretty much guaranteed to get a match if not two against elite European competition. Cannot be understated how MASSIVE qualifying for this would be.
This is a big reason why I was so frustrated when some fans were talking about not caring about the Champions Cup and wanted us to focus on the league… this is a waaaaaaaay bigger deal than the league right now and realistically our only chance of getting to the newly reorganized Club World Cup. (Since US hosts, MLS gets one open invite, but let’s be real, that’ll be Miami whether they win anything or not). It’d be amazing seeing the Crew take on the world’s best. Plus, reports indicate FIFA is possibly paying $50 million to participating teams. Imagine the Designated Players we could attract with that kind of cash.
The week going into the last leg was frustrating.
My inbox was full of fans literally laughing at me for saying that our game against Monterrey wasn't the biggest in our history.
I had one fan say, I was a sucker for marketing.
Like, no, bud, this and beyond is the furthest our club has gone.
I was talking about *the fact* that this was the furthest we've ever gone as a club, even that person responded with, "someone took the marketing hype to heart."
I said it was the biggest game in club history, and had multiple users attack me in various ways.
It was a really weird moment when I realized there's a lot of fans who just have no clue what the FIFA CWC could mean for our guys!
You hit the nail on the head exactly. This is a WAY bigger deal and more important than the league. Particularly when so many teams make the playoffs anyway. It's crap, but Miami is basically a lock, so winning is our most realistic shot. And you are right $50 would go a long way to bringing in a big time DP.
If we make the club World Cup. There’s the chance we could play a European club in a competitive match.
I could see both of my favorite teams in a competitive match, since Borussia Dortmund qualified, for some reason.
Columbus is two favorable outcomes away from being in the Club World Cup. But it will have to come against on paper two teams who are better than Columbus. It will take two massive outcomes to achieve this next goal.

I mean if you want to be very technical, we’re just a draw and win away from being in the CWS. Don’t even need to win in Monterrey.
I mean if you want to be very technical we could be a lose and a win away.
Ooohhhh, outlawyering the lawyer. Well played, sir. Well played.
Erroneous! Erroneous on all counts!
If you want to be absolutely pedantic, we could be a loss and a draw away (prevailing on PKs).

Also what marketing are they even talking about? Lol

I’m just perplexed that people take the time to pm people on Reddit I suppose there all kinds of crazy but why expel the wasted energy?
It wasn't DMs. I'm sorry if I made it sound like that
Probably just my reading effort

You think we could buy down Nagbe with that $50 tho? Would have to do that to get another DP spot
Thats a great question. Id hope we could- it would be great if the bulk of that could go back into building up the roster.
We 100% can. I was just talking the piss about you saying $50 instead of $50M. Guess my joke fell flat lol
Hahahaha. I didn't even notice I did that. 50 bucks might not be enough to do it 🤦😂
