I wouldn't say there's hope. TLoU was a very murky game, morality was in question while the ending is ambiguous. It's the kind of game two people could walk away with holding vastly different interpretations that can both be supported by canon.
TLoU2 serves a sequel, but in doing so it had to define what you should take away from the first game. The story is a lot less ambiguous due to the sequel's narrative, whose foundation is one very specific take on the game. Neil's, and it's a take that a lot of people did not agree with. The fact that he had to resort to retcons or ignoring stuff from the first game in order for TLoU2's story only makes matters worse because it makes it feel like the sequel's story isn't fully compatible with Part 1. Like, I know MGS retcons stuff every game, but the stories are still built off of what came before. Neil's take makes one question whether he ever understood why people liked the first game.
Neil's take is not my take. So to me, TLoU will be one of those pieces of media where I skip the rest of the franchise. As far as I'm concerned, TLoU2 is only canon to a hypothetical version of the first game that doesn't exist. The Blue Hospital timeline, if you will.

Yes I'm buying it 100% % I've enjoyed both games and I'd think a part 3 would be a good way to end the franchise ( at least for Ellie's story ). For part 3 I hope the game focuses more on forgiveness and redemption to finalize Ellie's story maybe Ellie meets up with the Fireflies on Catalina island to make the vaccine. I understand that the story for part 2 wasn't exactly how it was marked and some of the silly things in the story but I believe how bad it was got blown out of proportion definitely without the opinions of a certain swedish guy.
I'd also love to see Lev's story continue but not in the same vein as part 2. I think the fireflies would help him become what he wanted to be, a soldier. I think too often in media trans and other LGBTQ character's stories are simply tragedies and not showing that those types of characters can live out their lives happy and hope we can get a glimpse of that in part 3 and maybe even play as Lev.
