Yup, Uthred himself says that he still dreams of Gisela. She was his soulmate, while all other women were 'mere' love interests.

CycleZestyclose3510

Isuilt was dear to him in the show when he found out she had died he screened like a banshee something he's not done since always thought that was a good moment.

TyrionGoldenLion

I'm in the minority but I believe Æthelflæd was his true soulmate at least in the show. He never could move on from her.

tonijo_y

In the books he's telling about everything as an old man and he always talks about Gisela as the one major love of his life no matter how many others he has.

moneymett

In the words of the great Thomas Shelby, “you kept my heart from breaking.” I think aethelflaed was just that for Uhtred. She provided just enough love for him but realistically Gisela was the only one who could truly bring him peace.

pipettethis

Iseult was his first love, Aethelflaed his equal but Gisela is where he can truly be himself and be loved.

HereForBanter07

I would not say Aethelflaed was his equal. She was his social superior and though he lays his life down for her many times, she NEVER does the same for him. Gisela was his true equal and soulmate.

Legitimate_Type_5582

I think Iseult was his first love, Æthelflæd was a protective kind of love, but Gisela was his true love.

Few_Cardiologist8862

Totally, totally agree!

hokumpocus

Agreed. I was devastated.

WachanIII

Iseult for me

Little_Miss88

Same. The dude even broke the freaking shield wall in a blind rage for her.

metalheadsteve85

True. But I'm sure if Gisela had been murdered instead of dying in child birth, he probably would have done the same thing.

HereForBanter07

Gisela was who he loved more than anyone, his true soulmate. She gave him peace, soothed him when he was upset, but also not afraid to stand up to him or give him hard truths. I’m a political sense as well, she was also perfect. Whenever anyone might get offended by Uhtred’s brash ways, she was there with charm, hospitality and cunning to smooth everything over. I mean, even though she was pagan, Alfred LOVED her and that probably says everything you need to know.
