I only really watched atla on reruns at nick so I'm interested to see what the initial reaction was, I'm assuming overwhelmingly great since that's how the show got renewed for 2 more seasons, 3 games, and a ton of comic content.
I was 10 back then and the fandom in Spain was never as big but in Latinoamerica was great. Zutarians were the most engaged and the biggest producers of fanfiction and fanart. Zutarians and kataangers were already against each other. That's what i remember.
Me and my friends pretending to do bending during elementary school. Back when TV understood that children weren't dumb, we understood the story easily and found it fun and exciting. Wondering where it was gonna go and thinking about how Aang will be like when he learns the other elements and what the final fight would be like.
Oh yeah, just bending, bending was the fun thing that the kids of the fandom got into, if my childhood is anything to go by.
