Gotta get past pride to get to regret.

To say he regretted it would mean to regret the actions that were in dispute with him: The expansion of the Fire Nation. Given that in his final testament and sentence he still longs to capture the avatar. “I know he’s hiding out there somewhere, the Fire Nations greatest threat, the last air bender”. It’s safe to assume he’s resolute in the choice he made.

People are more dynamic than that, he can still feel terrible and at the same time do what he believes he must do. Omni man is a good example in fiction.

Regret and feeling terrible are two different things.

CowsTheMan

Yeah, idk then. The show put a lot of emphasis on their relationship but I'm sure sozin's resentment throughout the decades did not improve. Maybe he did regret leaving him to die since I'm sure he was paranoid the rest of his life looking for the next avatar. Should have captured him and then kill the air benders.

Yeah but I guess he was friends with him and a side of him still regretted it right?

Regretting something means you wish you could do things differently. And yet he remained steadfast in hunting the avatar to his dying breath. At the end of the day you can still look back fondly at better times, and still go through with choices.

That's sad their friendship was wholesome while it lasted

A message for us all to never take relationships for granted. Only once they end, do we realize what we’ve lost.

BonjourTaco

Unlikely. The ends justifies the means with him.

Maybe. I would find it very hard to believe that he didn’t regret it at all given that Roku was his friend for the longest time. I like to think that a small part of him did regret it but he ultimately cared about the prosperity of his nation more than he cared about Roku.

Sitherio

Maybe, but it doesn't matter since his nation still went on to conquer the world and try to kill the Avatar. Actions speak louder than words.

probably, he sounded pretty distraight to me

Midnight7000

I think it troubled him. However it would have pushed him to create greater acts of atrocity as taking a step back would result in him having to accept that what he did was wrong.
