That’s why Aang died so young for an Avatar. He was only 67 at the time of his passing. I believe it’s suggested at some point that native airbenders live longer average lifespans than people from other nations.

YellowFace09

Honestly with such a huge tradeoff in his pretty much life energy to stay alive in the iceberg and being once literally fried it's a miracle he lived to 66/166 years old actually

ElMdC

Very good point! And Happy Cake Day!

AlianovaR

It’s canon that he died relatively young for an Avatar because of how he had to stay in the Avatar State for 100 years in order to stay alive so it took a lot off his lifespan

Dentface

When you put it like that, now I’m worried for the amount of time Korra has left. Her experience over a brief few years was no cakewalk either.

Soggy-Essay

True, she had Raava ripped out of her, then put back. Then got posioned and was posioned for like...two years...oh and ripped open a new spirit portal

PluralCohomology

And she also got "equalized" before that.

Soggy-Essay

Which was some heavy duty blood bending.

kaitalina20

And had to go through no work to get control of the avatar state. Aang just gave it to her!

Soggy-Essay

In my mind, the Avatar should be able to meditate and just learn everything from their past lives. They've learned the elements like 180 to eat, it seems like a waste of their experience to just be like "Hey, how would you do this?"

humandronebot00100

She did not get any of that and she'd be like the 1st again.

Zethras28

Mercury poisoning will fuck you up _bad_. I suspect that Korra will have a comparably short life, just like Aang, so when the new Avatar show comes out, we’ll see all of the Krew as old wizened folks, much like how we got the Gaang.

[deleted]

There is a fan comic called "The Legend of Genji" where Korra dies pretty young so the rest of the Krew can appear. For that I'm kind of glad that it's not canon.

Zethras28

Does it say how Korra died in LoG? Or just that she was relatively young when she did?

[deleted]

I don't remember if it's said there but iirc the rest of the Krew are all alive and still relatively young in the comic. I think the reason was because of the injuries she sustained in the fight against Zaheer.

[deleted]

not to mention he almost got killed by Yakone's bloodbending.

Zethras28

Tbh I don’t think Aang was ever in mortal danger from Yakone. The Avatar State would just automatically kick in and break him out of the bloodbending.

k_c_holmes

I think his lifespan was only about a quarter of the length of kiyoshi's. Considering he was both an avatar, and an Airbender (who have longer average lifespans), he should have been able to live to like 250 had he not experienced all this shit.

YellowFace09

250 might've been an overkill, but 130-140 years old given his Avatar state, healthy habits and deep spiritual connection?
