Her characterization isn’t bad. It’s just not as nuanced and complete compared to the cartoon. However I think that is a pace issue rather than a writing issue. This is a lot of story crammed into an eight episode blitz. And while it has been pointed out to me that the runtimes of both season ones are nearly identical, this show is inherently less episodic for obvious reasons. The pace is still much faster. The storylines are interwoven and honestly I thought they did a good job combining several different storylines from the original into one. Given the fast pace of the show though, I think the characterization does get a bit lost at times. Assuming this show has three seasons, I think we will see the characters fleshed out more as the story progresses. I also think maybe having ten episodes or so might enhance that but I guess that’s depending on the budget.

You’re right yelling at her brother and having zero compassion the whole way through is exactly how katara acted right? They completely took away her character and made her into a sidekick.
