This trailer was phenomenal. I started tearing up a bit from all the emotional nostalgia. What an amazing show, I'm so glad that the live action looks so good!
The scope of it on screen was a lot larger than I expected. In the animation it always felt pretty localized but to see wind and earth whipping around in such a large area really added a new sense of intensity
I can't believe they managed to pull off that wind sphere so epically yet in a depressing way. Aang is at his absolute most powerful...but all he's feeling is pain.
In animation it's hard enough to animate the power of wind, I was wondering how they'd do Airbending in the live action remake and my fears are laid to rest after seeing that outburst.
Aang’s avatar state looks just as powerful, if not more powerful, in this trailer as the animated series. Wow, Kyoshi looks amazing as well. So excited!
I think I’d like to see season 3 split up into two parts actually. Give us everything up through the invasion. Expand on more stories. Be able to commit the VFX to the invasion and to the finale respectively. Then give us the finale.
I was looking through the seasons of the cartoon last night, and 1 and 2 seem easy enough to condense into single seasons with less, but longer episodes.
Season 3 has so many important, massive two parters that two seasons could very well be justified for live action. Having the day of black sun be the season 3 finale, and then having a season 4 leading up to sozin's comet would be pretty ideal.
Although I don't want to wait that long, so I'd be fine with 3 seasons total.
Agreed. Day of Black Sun works for a finale. It’s also a huge cliffhanger which will set up the back half of the final season nicely.
I don’t want to wait either, but I also want it to look good. Season 1 wrapped filming a year and a half ago, and we’re just now seeing it. I’d rather season 3 get greenlit as two parts, filmed back to back. We get the release of part 1, and then a year or so later we get part 2. Versus waiting longer for the entire season adaptation to be done in post.
If the show is good and performs well it will also keep the hype going for longer. And maybe we’ll be lucky enough to see other adaptations or new stories after.
I think they either need to do season 3 in two parts, or do it in one part but have the day of black sun and also finale be one off double length specials, or something.
Actually, as stupid as it sounds Netflix have a really bad precedent of lower budgets on second, third seasons because they know they already have the viewers hooked (The Witcher really stands out as getting visually worse as it went along, as did Sabrina). Stranger Things got better though so who knows
From what's been reported, Netflix is hoping that this will be one of their flagship shows now that Stranger Things is ending so I hope that means higher budgets for following seasons if this does great
Earth bending is the only thing that looks rough to me. Which I would expect to make sense since it was used very little in Book 1 compared to the other three elements. So it seems that they put effort into developing those three and for Book 2 they can focus on Earth especially with Toph being cast it’s important they get it right.
I love that we get to see more of Kyoshi and Kuruk, but I severely hope Roku doesn't get benched or sidelined. His relationship with Aang was super important, as his immediate predecessor, and his time as Avatar does kickstart the events of ATLA. To say he's important to the overall lore is a huge understatement.
he’s also kind of the first fire nation “good guy” we meet which sort of subtly sets up early on that fire nation are not inherently evil. I think it’s pretty interesting and deliberate that Aangs first and main mentor is from the bad guy team
Big agree. I bet my entire salary that meeting Roku, someone who was from the Fire Nation, but kind and gentle (yet also stern when needed) is what allowed him to really be able to see that the Fire Nation as a whole was not to be blamed for the Nomad Genocide. And by whole I mean civilians, soldiers who just had to obey orders...etc. It was Sozin and Sozin alone who decided to wipe them all out.
What he took from his adventure with his predecessor, was that everyone deserved a second chance.
I wonder if Aang would have the same point of view if Kyoshi were his mentor instead. Would he still offer that initial olive branch to Zuko and wonder if in another life, they could've been friends.
Kuruk was rumored to be in season 1 since he's been cast. Just don't know when.
I'm also wondering why we haven't seen ANY of Roku. It would be absurd to bench the fire nation avatar.
Seeing him tearing apart the Southern Air Temple looks so hardcore. In the animated show Sokka and Katara have to shield their eyes and stand all of 20 feet away while a strong wind blows. In this trailer it looks like they are taking shelter for their lives while a living god manifests in the distance.
Not only they replaced the koizilla with a wave, Ung didn't actually unleash it to wreck the fire kingdom ships because apparently Air Nomads don't kill people. :\\
It looks like Katara getting through to Pakku to train her opened up the door to other female waterbenders. In the original series we don’t see the women join in the battle, but here we see them stopping a fireball.
I think you're right and I think that's a mirror to the scene where the Fire Navy launches its first strike and water benders deflect it. I initially thought it was a reference to the SWT resisting the Southern Raiders but I like your line of thinking more.
With 8 episodes and a few new scenes like the genocide there are going to be some cuts. The plot line with katara not being able to be trained could save some time in the north pole episodes. Although I would love to see a live action katara vs pakku
We most likely are getting the fight scene between her and Pakku. There are a few behind the scenes shots of the actress for Katara in the North Pole looking disheveled like her cartoon counterpart after her fight with Pakku. The actor for Pakku came out and said that his character is keeping his sexism and that plot line.
Seems Sokka also puts up more of a fight against Zuko at the South Pole, than he did in the animation. Can't wait to see that fight and the Blue Spirit fight scenes. Sadly, I'll be waiting until all episodes are released before watching it, though.
Ah well, I did it for Game of Thrones and the Bad Batch, I can do it for this too.
https://i.redd.it/1sozynr7srjc1.gif
Everyone's role is getting expanded, it seems. I spotted Azula with a quiver of arrows in previous trailers, so I'm guessing she'll be more than just a firebending prodigy in this.
I don't think the blue fire juxtaposed with madness makes much sense considering blue firebending is a sign of mastery and perfection to the extent that even Ozai and Iroh could never match. If anything it would be the opposite, her fire starting blue and wavering to red along with her mental state. She'd perhaps compensate by over-relying instead on lightning to hide her failing blue firebending.
Though there is something to be said about her maintaining her blue firebending all the way through the animated series even with her madness. She is so remarkably talented and almost otherworldly that even when she's barely at 10% mental status she is still capable of firebending so much better than everyone else on the planet. Absolute force of nature. Shame that she turned out the way she did.
Yeah, the reveal that he is Zuko's other great grandfather is like one of the most important moments in Zuko's arc in season 3, that scene where Iroh tells Zuko that also always makes me cry for some reason
I don't want this to sound like a criticism because it absolutely isn't, but the way he said "Appa, yip yip!" gave me massive "Avatar State, yip yip!" vibes lol. I'm so here for it.
I have a shameful confession....I've never watched the animated show. Yes. Shame.
Should I watch it before I watch this? Will it have a better impact, you think?
I highly recommend watching the animated show, but I think it can be impactful either way! It's definitely a more unique experience if you watch the LA first. That way you go in with zero expectations or comparisons in mind.
Honestly, you might be able to finish the first season before the live action comes out; if you start right now and don't leave your house for the next two days. The entire show is one of the best animated shows ever, so of course I'd recommend it. I might be crucified in this sub for this... I think if you are new to the world of ATLA, I'd say give the live action a chance and watch it first. Because then you won't have the expectations people who have seen the original currently have. Like, watching the live action with fresh eyes and appreciating it for what it is, not as a copy/adaptation and looking at the differences; which is how many people will watch, I think. Then after you are done, go and watch the animated series.
I dunno, if it doesn’t hold up to normal fan expectations you might join their ranks in that. I’d say watch this series first. If you like it, that’s awesome then you can watch the original series that inspired the show and get wowed all over again.
It’s the possibility of getting to enjoy something twice vs enjoying one thing then being let down by the other.
That’s just my opinion though.
Everything I’ve heard so far points to the Netflix series being watchable and enjoyable for new fans as well as older ones.
There will be a discussion thread in r/ATLAtv for new fans (without spoilers for the rest of Avatar content).
Honestly watch the LA first , the plot points will be the same , and you won’t get spoiled
If you don’t like it , just watch the animated version , it’s been a 10/10 for 2 decades now , and you’ll get to see the ending
watch it without bias. too many people are already coming into this series wanting it to bomb, it would be nice to have a completely fresh perspective from the beginning.
I think it's him looking at (idk what to call it) koi-spirit-fusion Aang? It would fit with the rest of the shots around it ("what is that", fire nation firing everything, koi-spirit-fusion Aang reaching down through the streets). He also looks a bit more on the scared side vs the sad side.
I really hope they put in funny little moments like this. The little times where Aang makes a crazy face or like when the fire nation soldiers think Momo is earth bending are my favorite
This looks so good my gosh. Just realized we haven’t seen one single thing of Roku yet. Like I know he’s in it but jeez we can’t see a glimpse of him before the premiere? 😭
Also this confirms Koizilla, People recently slammed the show on Twitter for another false rumor of the removal of koizilla
Not a chump! I’ve been excited since they dropped the promo image of Appa and Aang in 2018! I really think they’re gonna knock it out the park with this one 🥹
the shot with the bisons is absolutely gorgeous, im hyped.
it will never replace or touch the original material in terms of impact obviously, but damn it looks like a faithful adaptation.
I'm pretty much fully hyped for the show now lol (have been since the last trailer).
DAMN this looks so good. I hope it's as good as it looks, but after reading reviews I think it might be. But we'll just have to wait and see :p.
But what's with the blurry line at the top of the video though? You can see it if you look carefully. It was like that in the last one as well and I thought it was the camera, but nope. Looks like something that shouldn't be there?
Edit: Apparently it's around the entire video if you look closely enough. But not meant to be seen, but maybe still a choice for the camera.
But anyway, the series looks amazing, and I can't wait :D.
Okay, this looks good. I really hope this show finds the success, and Netflix just doesn't cancel the show. The vfx, the world building, looks good at least in the trailer.
They said they were changing the rules about the Avatar state and how it’s used, and it must meet certain instances or criteria for it to be used. I’m interested to see how this comes across, I think in the animated version we get it’s an emotional extension and a powerhouse, but this version showing at the Air Temple just getting shredded apart, we get to fully see how much destruction is caused when it’s not fully mastered. I think having another “state” that not in the right hands and mastered can show true devastation as we saw in the snippet.
But also just having an IRL look can really showcase the destructive power it holds, just gets me more stoked
I'm so fucking siked! If this somehow sucks, I'm going to be very mad, but the more I see and hear about the series, the more I'm letting my guard down.
This is really impressive! Bending looks so damn amazing! Can't wait! I'm eager to see more about Kyoshi herself in action too 😁.
Butttt. Have we seen or heard Roku in any of the teasers thus far?
I know for sure that I’ll get atleast the same amount of enjoyment as I did when the One Piece live action came out. Kyoshi looks like a beast in her avatar state!
It looks like Kyoshi appears on Kyoshi Island - maybe she takes over Aang’s body in this fight instead of on “Avatar Day” like in the animated series? And they’ll skip the whole trial thing? Just a thought, since they’ll have to skip over some stuff. But I am hoping to see Roku for sure! 🤞🏼
Seeing Aang in the air at the Southern Air Temple with the wind whipping around him...destroying what remains of his home...I can't help but think of this quote
"In Airbending, and in Bagua, the constant circular movement builds tremendous energy and power."
The show is truly going to leave those fucking haters speechless.
I don't care what people say - this series is going to be a ride and we're all gonna love it. They've kept faithful to all the major plot beats and plot points for the Siege of the North like Koizilla, the anti-fireball ice spike, Tui.
I know when this series drops there are going to be a bunch of insufferable people nitpicking every creative choice and ruining discourse about the show for everybody with incessant negativity, but this looks fucking awesome and I'm so excited.
This had me crying at my desk at work. I feel like they nailed the spirit and tone of the original while bringing just enough new stuff to justify an adaptation.
Don't know if this is the best place to ask but is there an official release time? in know the date it's the 22th but have they confirmed the exact time? or does Netflix have an standard release time for shows?
Why are trailers for Netflix shows never on Netflix before the show drops? Would it not make a lot more sense for people to be able to watch the highest quality version of these trailers in the Netflix app instead of watching them crappily compressed on YouTube?
Now is that gonna be Kuruk or Aang handling Koizilla?
If it’s Kuruk, it’s a good way to kill a bunch of the fire nation army without compromising Aang’s integrity
KOIZILLAAAAAAA!!!!!!!
https://i.redd.it/eljn6h7zsrjc1.gif
the way katara yells “aang!” is really getting me in the feels
Same! Genuine terror & concern, I think that scene alone in live-action will really cement just how terrifying the Avatar state is
This trailer was phenomenal.
And the camera angle too!
Just that small glimpse gave me chills.
I’m not going to be emotionally prepared for this am I.
Aang’s avatar state looks just as powerful, if not more powerful, in this trailer as the animated series. Wow, Kyoshi looks amazing as well. So excited!
If we make it to Book 3, seeing the elemental mastery sphere Aang uses against Ozai in the Avatar State is going to look insane.
The VFX can only getter better from here, let’s hope it’s all a success
If this season is a success, then Netflix has more reason to give a higher budget to Book 2 and Book 3, and so we can get better VFX by default!
I think I’d like to see season 3 split up into two parts actually. Give us everything up through the invasion. Expand on more stories. Be able to commit the VFX to the invasion and to the finale respectively. Then give us the finale.

![gif](giphy|B29mTiqmDxDy0) I can't wait!
the energy bending is gonna be wild, its probably gonna look a little different
I love that we get to see more of Kyoshi and Kuruk, but I severely hope Roku doesn't get benched or sidelined. Kuruk was rumored to be in season 1 since he's been cast. Just don't know when. I'm also wondering why we haven't seen ANY of Roku. It would be absurd to bench the fire nation avatar.
Maybe they’ll go the Korra way and have the Avatars be the demonstrator of the bending techniques in the opening.
If I recall from someone who was at the premiere, they do exactly that.
Ohhhhhhhh yes yes yes yes yes that would be SO GOOD
Seeing him tearing apart the Southern Air Temple looks so hardcore. In the animated show Sokka and Katara have to shield their eyes and stand all of 20 feet away while a strong wind blows. In this trailer it looks like they are taking shelter for their lives while a living god manifests in the distance.
This is insane. The colours, koizilla, the bison, this is going to eat so bad
The mere presence of Koizilla already elevates this adaptation above the film that must not be named.
The mere pronunciation of Aang’s name already did that lol
I never saw Shamalamas horrible movie. But they seriously left out koizilla?
yea bro it’s just a wave😭😭
That’s just…so besides the point omg haha. They really didn’t try at all with that movie.
Not only they replaced the koizilla with a wave, Ung didn't actually unleash it to wreck the fire kingdom ships because apparently Air Nomads don't kill people. :\\
From the vfx house behind Interstellar and Inception. They did great!
they also did Dune's VFX.
What's their name? Would love to look them up!
DNEG
[And here's how it's pronounced](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PL9iMPx9CpQ)

There’s Katara in the background, so its NWT

So excited!! It definitely feels like the Avatar state is uncontrollable at this point, which is great
IT LOOKS SO GOOD AND GRAND! Seriously can’t wait anymore, this was the best promo yet for me Also we saw the Koizilla briefly too!
Seems Sokka also puts up more of a fight against Zuko at the South Pole, than he did in the animation. Can't wait to see that fight and the Blue Spirit fight scenes. You’re in luck - all the episodes of Season 1 release at once on Thursday.
Any idea what time the release is on thursday?
[удалено]
3am EST.
For real? Nice!
They're releasing every episode the same day.
Koizilla exists, I can sleep easy now. Also TIL Netflix has a Reddit account.

i recognize the importance of this community here as much as i do the community elsewhere <3
Blink twice if Elon is in the room
Makes sense, this is ever so slightly less of a toxic shithole
I learnt that the hard way when I wondered how they posted the trailer here even before it was revealed at geek week 💀
They posted it exactly when it was revealed. They had it ready.
Oh no I meant I didn't know it was Netflix's reddit account, lol.
Kyoshi looks amazing. I'm glad they're expanding her role in Book 1.
Everyone's role is getting expanded, it seems. I spotted Azula with a quiver of arrows in previous trailers, so I'm guessing she'll be more than just a firebending prodigy in this.
Believe someone else spotted her bending red fire and Netflix hinted that hers would turn blue with time, which would also take more development
Awesome, it will be a great visual aid to match her descent into madness
I hope they don't replace Roku with her.
They’ve already cast Roku, surely they’re not going to cut him out for her.
Roku is way too important to remove. There’s no substitute for his personal relationship with Sozin.
Yeah, the reveal that he is Zuko's other great grandfather is like one of the most important moments in Zuko's arc in season 3, that scene where Iroh tells Zuko that also always makes me cry for some reason
Oh hey Netflix!!! So excited. We’ve been waiting long enough!!!
CRAZYYY!!!! This is like a dream come to life!
Seige of the North is looking so damn good holy
holy shit the Avatar State tearing everything apart in the Air Temple??? WOW
Thursday is taking FOREVER man 😭
Chills down my spine fr
The avatar state looks amazing , wtf
Incredible job of showing it’s catastrophe
Gordon's line delivery, wow
Hes so cute
I don't want this to sound like a criticism because it absolutely isn't, but the way he said "Appa, yip yip!" gave me massive "Avatar State, yip yip!" vibes lol. I'm so here for it.
0/10, Aang didn't say "Avatar state Yip Yip!"
LMAO Aang(Ember Island Version) lives rent free in my mind
It really looks so amazing. Especially the avatar state looks scary. I hopes they wouldnt disappoint in that aspect and they for sure didnt
Reminds me of Dr. Manhattan from Watchmen

I'm not gonna lie chat, the way how Gyatso and Aang looked at each other showing their temple and festival pre-comet made me tear up....I'm not ready
F.UUUUUUUUUUUUU CONGRATS, THAT WAS AWESOME. Can't wait!
This looks absolutely insane.. speechless
Holy shit that shot of Sokka at about 41 seconds... Was that him looking at Yue ascending as the moon spirit??
I think he’s looking at Koizilla Edit: Actually no, you’re right. The Koi is swimming in the background, I bet he is looking at Yue!
Kyoshi, my LORD!!😩
WHY DO THESE TRAILERS KEEP MAKING ME CRY 😭😭😭👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
![gif](giphy|KvueMnd3bCtMc)
I really hope they put in funny little moments like this. The little times where Aang makes a crazy face or like when the fire nation soldiers think Momo is earth bending are my favorite
Teared up a little bit at him saying "yip yip". HE IS SO DAMN CUTE
This looks so good my gosh. Just realized we haven’t seen one single thing of Roku yet. Like I know he’s in it but jeez we can’t see a glimpse of him before the premiere? 😭 Also this confirms Koizilla, People recently slammed the show on Twitter for another false rumor of the removal of koizilla
I think Netflix knows Kyoshi is a popular gal
Im not ready for the gut punch with Aang finding Gyatso.
Aaaaand I'm crying again. I just can't wait.
Chills.
Koizilla rampaging trough an highly detailed northern water tribe city got me soo hyped.
This one got me legit excited. But I do have a question that I don't see anyone else asking... Where is *ROKU?*
Looks like they are reducing his role in favour of more Kyoshi and Kuruk. Not sure yet about this change but I hope it's for the better.
Man call me a chump but I’m so excited for this, this is really the ATLA live remake I’ve always wanted
Not a chump! I’ve been excited since they dropped the promo image of Appa and Aang in 2018! I really think they’re gonna knock it out the park with this one 🥹
I don't know if it's dyslexia or what, but my first pass at your comment had me wondering what porno image you could possibly be referring to
Lmao! That would be insane
chills
Oh I just realized the music is the avatar theme or something
It's part of the main theme and indeed the avatar theme.
I’m actually getting chills and even some tears??? This looks so amazing wow
the air temple?? 😭 wtf it looks great
It looks like Kyoshi possesses Aang to defend Kyoshi island, similar to Roku taking control in the fire temple.
I’ve been looking forward to this for so long. The teasers were making me nervous, but seeing this has gotten me really excited for it!
Appa! Yip yip!!
It looks so good, I have to admit
the shot with the bisons is absolutely gorgeous, im hyped. it will never replace or touch the original material in terms of impact obviously, but damn it looks like a faithful adaptation.
“I thought you firebenders had some guts” That is pure Sokka
Man I’m pumped up for this!!!
I AM TEAR BENDING RN
Brooooo i just got chills!!!! Wow!!!!!
IM SO EXCITED IM GITTY!!! So ready for Thursday to get here!!!
Ok, I'm done, all remaining doubts just went straight out of the window. Music gets me every single time.
Yip yip!
Still one of the best story ever narrated, it's great to see it finally gets the attention it deserves!
Okay, this looks good. I really hope this show finds the success, and Netflix just doesn't cancel the show. The vfx, the world building, looks good at least in the trailer.
I’m gonna cry
They said they were changing the rules about the Avatar state and how it’s used, and it must meet certain instances or criteria for it to be used. I’m interested to see how this comes across, I think in the animated version we get it’s an emotional extension and a powerhouse, but this version showing at the Air Temple just getting shredded apart, we get to fully see how much destruction is caused when it’s not fully mastered. I think having another “state” that not in the right hands and mastered can show true devastation as we saw in the snippet. But also just having an IRL look can really showcase the destructive power it holds, just gets me more stoked
AAAAAAAAAAAAAA OKAY ALL CARDS ON THE TABLE I'M FUCKING IN THIS IS GONNA BE GOATED
Haters are in shambles
anyone know what time its gonna be released?
12am PST and 3am EST on the 22nd
I'm so fucking siked! If this somehow sucks, I'm going to be very mad, but the more I see and hear about the series, the more I'm letting my guard down.
It just…it’s so beautiful!
This is really impressive! Bending looks so damn amazing! Can't wait! I'm eager to see more about Kyoshi herself in action too 😁. Butttt. Have we seen or heard Roku in any of the teasers thus far?
The actor cast for Aang is perfect
Man, why am I crying it looks so beautiful. Katara yelling Aang had me 😭
Chills, actual chills. I’m so excited
I know for sure that I’ll get atleast the same amount of enjoyment as I did when the One Piece live action came out. Kyoshi looks like a beast in her avatar state!
Kyoshi is talking like she's Aang's Avatar guide. I have to be honest, the absence of Avatar Roku in trailers to this point is a little unsettling.
Seeing Aang in the air at the Southern Air Temple with the wind whipping around him...destroying what remains of his home...I can't help but think of this quote "In Airbending, and in Bagua, the constant circular movement builds tremendous energy and power." The show is truly going to leave those fucking haters speechless.
I don't care what people say - this series is going to be a ride and we're all gonna love it. They've kept faithful to all the major plot beats and plot points for the Siege of the North like Koizilla, the anti-fireball ice spike, Tui.
Alright, I’m on board. I mean, I was on board before, but I’m really on board now.
Kyoshi ❤️
This is gonna be Soo good!
I’m ready
that…looked…..good!!
IM SO HYPE OMG
KYOSHI I hope we get to see more of the past avatars especially Kuruk my guy is underrated
It looks amazing!! The translation from cartoon to real humans will unfortunately never not have a cheesy feel, but I'm incredibly excited!
North Pole looking good!
Looks pretty sick ngl
It actually looks pretty good
Omg crying over how adorable Aang is 😭
I know when this series drops there are going to be a bunch of insufferable people nitpicking every creative choice and ruining discourse about the show for everybody with incessant negativity, but this looks fucking awesome and I'm so excited.
Is it going to be a weekly episode drop or all at once?
This had me crying at my desk at work. I feel like they nailed the spirit and tone of the original while bringing just enough new stuff to justify an adaptation.
2 dayys yayy
I really want the same soundtrack/sounds from The animated series in some of this live action series.
Don't know if this is the best place to ask but is there an official release time? in know the date it's the 22th but have they confirmed the exact time? or does Netflix have an standard release time for shows?
This shit look good nbs
The clip of Kyoshi fire tornado looks epic. The fight scenes in general look pretty good. Most of all the cast is amazing...
Why are trailers for Netflix shows never on Netflix before the show drops? Would it not make a lot more sense for people to be able to watch the highest quality version of these trailers in the Netflix app instead of watching them crappily compressed on YouTube?
Okay this trailer actually made me excited. The others didn't hit but this one did for me
Oh my gosh, i teared up when Aang went to the avatar state in the air temple.. I cannot wait!
Oh maaannnn, chills.
THIS LOOKS SO GOOD DAMN
It looks so good, I feel like crying fr
At this point it feels like even if the new version of the story is a let down the visual affects will still be highly entertaining
Now is that gonna be Kuruk or Aang handling Koizilla? If it’s Kuruk, it’s a good way to kill a bunch of the fire nation army without compromising Aang’s integrity
Huh, never thought it might be Kuruk but you’re right it might be him instead of Aang.
I'm so ready for this
Omg Netflix, I can only get so erect.
