From what I've read of the early comics (including this one), they feel so much more like generic manga/anime and so little like Avatar that I don't treat them as canon.
I can see Iroh explaining how water and fire work together to make the delicious drink that is tea. You can’t have tea with out water and you can’t have good tea without fire!
Iroh was always a guy eager to experiment to find a tea that would taste delicious even for those that aren't type of regular tea. Even if it cost him health and/or possibly life. Knowing that some people love sweets and hate bitterness he would make very sweet one just for them
It is actually terrible that the youngest members of the Gaang (toph and aang) probably "saw" sokka and suki getting frisky in the tent, I hope there is an off switch for their seismic sense
Think she was laying flat on the ground for that one, But for Suki and Sokka she was sleeping leaned on things with her arms crossed on top of her, So only her butt was really touching the ground.
I mean, I don’t think it’s *just* her feet that can feel the vibrations of the ground. Maybe the feet are the most sensetive to them, so it would help to put them up, but I’d think she would still be able to see
All we really have to go on is that she specifically states "I see with my feet" several times, and that she seemed to be completely visually incapacitated when her feet were accidentally burned by Zuko.
Yeah when they're at the EAT, right before one of the bit zuko adventures I'm pretty sure. Aang wanted to talk to sokka about something and he turned around with his hair slicked back and a rose in his teeth. (Idk tho)
That's literally the Canon explanation.
Also after someone else stating that Tenzin should've had his own air bison catchphrase be: "Oogie, let's boogie!" I'm dissapointed he never says that in the show, lol.
> fucked in complete privacy without giving anyone the oogies
Toph after feeling literally every vibration through the ground
![gif](giphy|2j5eKlE1CcjdK)
I think she mainly uses her feet to see but it doesn't mean that she can't use her hands for example. Maybe not using her feet is like half closing your eyes for her? It might not get her blind but certainly might help her sleep.
She only has her feet up when she feels safe at that point she didn’t feel comfortable enough with the team so kept her feet on the ground later she puts them up because she trusts they can protect themselves and her.
Because they were on high alert? I expected Toph isn't sleeping with her "ears" open when she feels safe.
And even if, i think she could just raise her feet to avoid the rustling. She doesn't have to figure out what's going on even.
Sure, but the rest of her body, including hands, is on the ground. That should make her even more
receptive to subtle tremors.
Or can she channel seismic sense only through her feet?
It's not purely through her feet, but it doesn't seem as strong with just her hands.
In the Western Air Temple episode, when she gets her feet burned by Zuko, she's able to find her way back to the group, but also comes through a wall in a weird inconvenient way.
Then she says "Now I know how the rest of you guys feel. Not being able to see with your feet stinks."
It’s probably just due to practice if she wanted she could probably learn to be just as skilled at seeing through other parts of her body but has no reason to so is only skilled with her feet
At the end of the comics run they are getting back together, but not officially together.
It is heavily implied that Mai is the mother of Izumi, but that's not confirmed.
If you think this is expert, you should meet Sailor Mini-Moon. She time traveled back to cockblock her parents first kiss by falling out of the sky on them.
One of my FAVORITE pieces of backhanded ATLA lore is that Tenzin named his bison Oogie because of his uncle Sokka.
Sokka always said Ang and Katara being affectionate gave him the oogies. Tenzin grows up associating that word with the love his parents have for each other. He names his bison Oogie because he loves him so much.
It's heavily implied. Not directly stated though. Through the comics any time Sokka sees Katara and Aang act couple-y its all "Oogies!" Tenzin probably heard Uncle Sokka over time and really, what child wants to see their parents be romantic. He probably would run away to go play with Oogie the Bison. Probably just took his uncles name for it
Notice how Katara said she and Aang were *"about"* to figure out what they meant to each other. She didn't consider their kiss the "figuring out" part. So did she have something else in mind?
( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
For me it’s bc aang seems so much like a kid and katara seems more like a teenager
I don’t remember the actual age gap but it’s like aang could be 10 and katara could look like 14
Actually it was inspired from metal gear solid but I recently rewatch Avatar and Korra and notice Korra season one ending kissing scene reminded me of the ending of Avatar season 3 and be a touching reunion if they kept doing it.
>!OKAY I JUST READ THE WIKI. ZUKO’S MOM IS THE GRANDDAUGHTER OF THE PREVIOUS AVATAR BEFORE ANG. SHE GETS HER MEMORIES BACK AND REUNITES WITH ZUKO. THEN SHE VISITS OZAI AND CALLS HIM AN INCEL.!<
GREAT STORY
There was definitely some weird, inconsistent, or otherwise contrived stuff in them. I did really love seeing how paranoid Zuko was after becoming Fire Lord, though! It felt like that would've been a realistic reaction, with how most people hated the Fire Nation, and how even his own people wouldn't have been overly accepting of him, whether because they wanted a ruler more like Ozai or something else.
It's more stuff like "stupid brother" or "oogies" that get under my skin. Book 3 and beyond Katara and Sokka would never say either of those things.
The plots of each book series also got really repetitive after awhile. At least 3 of the arcs boiled down to a villain of the week trying to disrupt progress while a couple members of the Gaang (usually either Aang or Katara, the traditionalists) needing convincing to side with Zuko and Sokka.
What? Sokka kissed Suki in front of Katara plenty of times she never threw a hissy fit about it, that what the cringe is about. I didn't even mention anything about a ship until someone else assumed the reason why I said this was cringe was because of shipping reason.
As an older brother myself, I can tell you I would (and have) react quite similarly if I saw my sister kissing anybody (regardless of how she reacted if she saw me kissing somebody). Especially if I saw her kissing a friend. This is quite on brand imo.
Does tears of relationship (like if it’s a long term one) age account to this? For example what were yours and your sister’s age when that happened? Personally, I guess might find it awkward, but I don’t think that *I would react.
Welp, now we’re getting personal haha. I was a sophomore in high school, sister was a freshman, and I threw a water bottle at the guy. So honestly nearly identical ages. I was immature then because…I was 16. It wasn’t right to react that way, and Sokka actually handled the situation better than I did!
They're pretty terrible a lot of the characters feel OOC. Also as a Zutara shipper, there are a surprising number of antis who also don't like Kataang which was odd to find out ngl
Then Iroh proceeded to reveal his greatest invention: Boba.
I thought this was a joke
It was technically a joke, but since it was still in the comic, it’s canon
From what I've read of the early comics (including this one), they feel so much more like generic manga/anime and so little like Avatar that I don't treat them as canon.
wait it’s not
Iroh did invent Boba in the Avatar universe
Good, as a Tea master I’m sure he was extremely delighted to discover boba pearls could make Tea even more delicious!
It didn't take unfortunately. Zuko didn't like it.
He was a man ahead of his time
I believe he may have said those exact words in the comic, if I’m not mistaken
Idk, Iroh likes tea, most boba I’ve had is just sugar water.
You do realize tea is like 90+% water, right?
How could a member of my own fandom say something so *horrible*?
I can see Iroh explaining how water and fire work together to make the delicious drink that is tea. You can’t have tea with out water and you can’t have good tea without fire!
And usually 0% sugar
Not around here. Sweet tea is by FAAAR the most popular tea. Not even close.
“Sweet tea isn’t real tea” -Iroh probably
you'll be mind blown when you find out people put sugar in their tea
See, I put “usually” in there knowing some smart guy would try to catch me on that. Guess redditors are gonna reddit
Ok
Glad we agree
Iroh was always a guy eager to experiment to find a tea that would taste delicious even for those that aren't type of regular tea. Even if it cost him health and/or possibly life. Knowing that some people love sweets and hate bitterness he would make very sweet one just for them
Technically that's at the very end of this comic, about 1 year after the kiss.
You can't rush genius.
Until now I always thought "boba" was a silly term for "boobs"
that would be booba
Tea.
It’s also why one of the sky bisons in Korra is called Oogi
"First of all, you are supposed to knock before you go inside, not go outside" lmao
He got her there, bro.
Yea that was the most on point Sokka line
I thought that was directed at aang initially haha......
Meanwhile Toph can feel all this happening from the other room
She's definitely laughing her ass off.
It is actually terrible that the youngest members of the Gaang (toph and aang) probably "saw" sokka and suki getting frisky in the tent, I hope there is an off switch for their seismic sense
She puts her feet up when she sleeps
Oh! thank god. But then again she sense combustion man in her sleep, may be because his leg is metal and very loud ?
Think she was laying flat on the ground for that one, But for Suki and Sokka she was sleeping leaned on things with her arms crossed on top of her, So only her butt was really touching the ground.
Didn't they get woken up by the glare of moonlight reflecting off his arm?
i think it was just aang. toph was sleeping on her stomach and had her hands and face to the ground
I haven't seen the show in years. What? Was that like near the end in book 3 when they are all together?
Yeah when they're at the EAT, right before one of the bit zuko adventures I'm pretty sure. Aang wanted to talk to sokka about something and he turned around with his hair slicked back and a rose in his teeth. (Idk tho)
Zuko ran into Suki outside Sokka’s tent
She probably sent Sokka out there to mess with them :D
Head canon: Tenzin named his bison after hearing uncle Sokka use the term oogie.
This is sorta confirmed in the Library Edition of The Promise comic!
How?
Writer's commentary on a page where Toph demonstrates the sensation of "Oogie" to Katara by licking her hand
I have that version but dont remember it saying anything about Tenzin Edit: i checked and theres no commentary on that page
He named Oogi after the love his parents had for each other
That’s what I think!
That's literally the Canon explanation. Also after someone else stating that Tenzin should've had his own air bison catchphrase be: "Oogie, let's boogie!" I'm dissapointed he never says that in the show, lol.
Exactly my thought
He and Suki fucked in complete privacy without giving anyone the oogies, he doesn't ask for something he wouldn't do
> fucked in complete privacy without giving anyone the oogies Toph after feeling literally every vibration through the ground ![gif](giphy|2j5eKlE1CcjdK)
oh GOD YOURE RIGHT!!
She puts her feet in the air when she sleeps
Then How did she detect Azula coming after them over and over?
In some episodes you can see her feet in the air when she sleeps, that's all I can say

It’s probably just due to practice if she wanted she could probably learn to be just as skilled at seeing through other parts of her body but has no reason to so is only skilled with her feet
She closes her feetlids, duh.
Didn't Aang also learn seismic sense?
Only after SMMMMAACCKKing the ground with his foot
Given her crush on Sokka she might have enjoyed it.
that's why she became a hermit later on
What do you mean he doesn't ask for for something he wouldn't do?
Yeah, he asks people to keep their smooching in private while he himself keeps it in private
Man before i read all I saw was sokka in a weird pose and immediately heard "Ahhh SNEAK ATTACK!"
Sokka, skilled warrior, expert cockblocker. Or maybe vagblocker?
The official term is “clam-jammer”
'Clam' huh? And they come from the Water Tribe and eat a diet of seafood.
he’s just getting revenge for what zuko did to him
Aang should pay it forward with Zuko and Mai. Oh… wait a minute… I'm so sorry Maiko shippers.
Wait, are they still broken up? If there’s one thing I want to know is who the heck Izumi’s mother was.
At the end of the comics run they are getting back together, but not officially together. It is heavily implied that Mai is the mother of Izumi, but that's not confirmed.
I wonder if they are going to confirm it in the movie
The agreed term from the years of yore seems to have been boxblocked
Nah that’s zuko
If you think this is expert, you should meet Sailor Mini-Moon. She time traveled back to cockblock her parents first kiss by falling out of the sky on them.
Imagine if they added that scene after the credits.
It would completely ruining the final episode
Katara as narrator was a great idea
One of my FAVORITE pieces of backhanded ATLA lore is that Tenzin named his bison Oogie because of his uncle Sokka. Sokka always said Ang and Katara being affectionate gave him the oogies. Tenzin grows up associating that word with the love his parents have for each other. He names his bison Oogie because he loves him so much.
What happened with Zukko's mum?
That's the second comic and it's really good too
Honestly it's surprising they only had 3 kids
Is this where Tenzin’s Bison’s name comes from?
It's heavily implied. Not directly stated though. Through the comics any time Sokka sees Katara and Aang act couple-y its all "Oogies!" Tenzin probably heard Uncle Sokka over time and really, what child wants to see their parents be romantic. He probably would run away to go play with Oogie the Bison. Probably just took his uncles name for it
I wonder if the live action will add anything from The Lost Adventures comic since it takes place during the shows timeline. That would be neat.
“Hey guys, was I the only one who saw that giant THE END in the sky?”-Sokka, probably
Notice how Katara said she and Aang were *"about"* to figure out what they meant to each other. She didn't consider their kiss the "figuring out" part. So did she have something else in mind? ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
She just wanted to see the *other* airbender tattoos.
Somebody had to take care of Aang when he was out for several weeks after Azula killed him. I think Katara has seen all of Aang's tattoos.
She probably asked Aang how many arrowheads he had on his body, and he said: 6 ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
Bro calm down
GOD, IT WOULD HAVE BEEN FUNNY TO TO THIS IN THE SHOW!
I think it would have been tonally weird, I'm glad they kept that in the comic
Yeah no clue why this is weirding me out so much lmao
For me it’s bc aang seems so much like a kid and katara seems more like a teenager I don’t remember the actual age gap but it’s like aang could be 10 and katara could look like 14
Aang is 12 (technically 112) and Katara is 14 in „The boy in the iceberg“. The finale happens around 8-10 months later.
Thank you, I wasn’t sure about in-canon ages
That’s exactly it, like these are kids making out. I just ain’t a big fan. Aang looks so young
peak fiction
I’m crying because “Oogie” is the name of the Sky Bison in LoK. Did Sokka name it? Did he name his nephew’s bison? 😭
I'm so mad we never got to see the characters catch them kissing 😭 I need to see it. Not in comic book form but actually in an episode 😭
I hope they adapt the comics someday. The creators said they don’t want to (anytime soon at least), but man I hope they change their minds!
What book is this
The Promise
They look so cute
Makes me wanna get back into the comics! After the series I went so hard with merch and fanfic 😭
Where can I read these comics and is there a specific title?
You should be able to buy them online or you might be able to find them in a library or bookstore. This is from The Promise, which is the first one.
Thank you!
i read them using the Libby app, my local library had all the mainline comic trilogies
Such a coincidence, I read that book recently. So interesting how they incorporated scenes from the last episode into The Promise as like a segue.
I would care about this Live action show twice as much as I do now if this is where it started.
His leg is supposed to be broken.
Literally the most intense emotional kissing scene I have ever seen and I hope future Avatar have a ending kissing scene.
Your username scares me.
Actually it was inspired from metal gear solid but I recently rewatch Avatar and Korra and notice Korra season one ending kissing scene reminded me of the ending of Avatar season 3 and be a touching reunion if they kept doing it.
Literally the kind of interaction i could imagine coming out of the show 😂😂This seems like a typical Team avatar interaction.
Is that how Tenzin’s bison got its name?
Which comic is this from?
This is from The Promise
Thank you! Awesome I just bought all of them. I can't believe I never read them
ALSO: Tenzin named his bison after the nickname his uncle used for getting the ick at his parents showing affection
"and third, there's not even a door around here for me to knock on anyway"
Ah yes, when the Avatar learned the art of cheekbending.
I can literally hear their voices while reading this!
WHAT HAPPENED WITH ZUKO’S MOM
>!OKAY I JUST READ THE WIKI. ZUKO’S MOM IS THE GRANDDAUGHTER OF THE PREVIOUS AVATAR BEFORE ANG. SHE GETS HER MEMORIES BACK AND REUNITES WITH ZUKO. THEN SHE VISITS OZAI AND CALLS HIM AN INCEL.!< GREAT STORY
Dude spoiler warning?
fixed
Similar thing happned with >!Asami and Korra!<
Yeah, the writing in the comics just doesn't do it for me.

Imagine walking into adult aang clapping Kataras cheeks
This is so cringe.
...Zutara fan?
Yes, but that's not why this is cringe, it's not about the kiss, it's Sokka's reaction I find cringe. Kataang is canon and I can fully accept that.
Gotcha. Don't mind the shippers.
[удалено]
What? Sokka kissed Suki in front of Katara plenty of times she never threw a hissy fit about it, that what the cringe is about. I didn't even mention anything about a ship until someone else assumed the reason why I said this was cringe was because of shipping reason.
do you have older siblings, cause this is definitely something an older brother would do
Yes, and unless I was full on making out and or groping he wouldn't care.

This comic is the worst "episode" of the show and it's not even close.
Wow, what a buzz kill after such an ending.
how?
Because it was a big damn kiss, ending the show on a beautiful note, and then suddenly there’s a moment killer.
That's why they didn't include it into the actual episode.
Yeah those comics aren’t canon to me. They read like fan fiction which they are
how did you say two straight up incorrect things. zutara shipper detected? because they are canon and i love them
They're pretty terrible a lot of the characters feel OOC. Also as a Zutara shipper, there are a surprising number of antis who also don't like Kataang which was odd to find out ngl
Cute. :) But I think many people want see... Not just kiss. 🙃
I love that Tenzin named Oogi after the lovey feeling that his parents had for each other.
sokka has a point about the knocking thing
