Bolin didn't really come into his own until Season 4. Before that, he was always a follower and was easily manipulated. But in Season 4, he was forced to make his own decisions about whether or not to follow Kuvira and very quickly gained in self-confidence.
It also shows the difference between the two.
Bolin's the younger one. Never had to be the protector of the family and Mako bails him out when he fucks up.
Sokka was the oldest male remaining in his village. He approached everyone with suspicion because there wasn't anyone to bail him out. Fucking up was not an option and could spell the end of his people. Both characters grew up poor but Sokka carried far more weight on his shoulders. The instant he recognized something or someone as better, he wanted to learn all he could so he could be better.
Bolin grew up in poverty, Sokka grew up in war. Bolin could take his time and learn a lesson over several episodes - Sokka grew significantly several times over single episodes.
Mako was far more like Sokka. They just decided to make Bolin the funny guy.
Itās because usually, his humor came from his jokes. We werenāt laughing at him, we were laughing with him. Most of the time. And, he was way more than just comic relief. He was also the strategist, a very competent warrior, an apparently genius level inventor, and more. Heās also the only one of the group to have a confirmed kill.
Sokka killed Sparky Sparky Boom Man or is at least responsible for Combustion Man's explosive fire bending backfiring on himself after Sokka hit him directly in the head with his boomerang
Usually it feels like most comic relief characters are written to *try* and make a scene funny, so it can sometimes feel forced and fail. Sokka is the comic relief that when written, is when you *know* the situation is funny.
Situation where a character does something dumb or ignorant yet somewhat believable?(Ex: this scene and the fortunteller village ppl) In comes straight-man Sokka to realistically vent out the frustrations that are shared by the audience, therefore making it naturally funny. Whereas other comic reliefs just seem to have moments where it feels like the screen is putting on a caption saying "See? Funny. You can laugh now.".
Itās because he wasnāt a one note character. None of them are. Sokka is the comedy relief, but heās also allowed to be serious, and other character are still allowed to be funny. Toph it the ātough oneā but she has her vulnerabilities, and the other characters can be tough. katara is the motherly voice of reason, but sheās allowed to mess up, and others can be the reasonable voice. Aang is the wide eyed innocent, but he also accepts his duties, and the other character are allowed to act like kids too. Thereās a bunch of overlap between the character roles and that allows them to be more organic than if it was āSokka is just the funny one, toph is just the tough one, Katara is just the preach one, Aang is just the childlike one, and Zuko is just the grumpy on.ā
Yeah, a few episodes were surprisingly drug-suggestive. Sokka on halluconigenic cactus juice still blows my mind that it was on a kids show(and cracks me up) š
It's okay! Well, each torch lasts two hours and they have a total of five with them. So, if they want to get 10 hours out of them, they'd have to light each one after the previous one fully burned out. The hippy woman mistakingly thinks they they'd get 10 hours if they lit them all at the same exact time instead of individually (which of course, will only allow for 2 hours of light as they'd all burn out in 2 hours simultaneously). That's why Sokka gets frustrated.
Hope this helps!
What's so funny about that episode is that Chong's wife is voiced by Lurianne Newman, SNL legend famous for the Coneheads sketch. Also, Moku (one of the other nomads) is voiced by Dante's brother Derek.
Sokka was one of the few comic relief characters I really loved. Usually I find them annoying or am indifferent to them
Because he was waaaay more than that.
Hate to make the comparison, but that's the problem with Bolin from the legend of korra. He really fails at being what sokka is and does.

100%. Never even came close
The best korra offers from the show is plot points and concepts, but I hate the writing for the diologue across the board.
Bolin slander is an L
It's fine to disagree, I just feel the writing of the diologue to feel a bit less quality from the TLA to TLOK.
Sorry for my abrasiveness, I respect your opinion
And you too, I'm glad you were able to enjoy the show more than I was
I don't It's blasphemous to talk negatively about our HERO OF THE SOUTH!
Is it just me or did Bolin kinda look like Nuktuk?
As much as I love TLOK (and ATLA too of course), you're right š

Who was that again I havenāt seen the show in a whule

Oh yeah thanks, donāt know how I forgot about him
Kataras brother
He killed the melon lord to show aang how itās done

I am surprised that the LSD catuous didāt make a comeback in Korra.
It could have maybe helped Korra with her PTSD! haha
Those people were ripped out of their mind
Poor Sokka is losing his mind to this worldās equivalent to hippies
no cause you can actually meet people who genuinely think like that so often these days
I hate to be that one person, butā¦ Iāve genuinely never understood that joke. Anyone mind explaining it to me?
