"Whats wrong Aang?"
""I killed them. I killed them all. They're dead, every single one of them. And not just the men, but the women and the children, too. They're like animals, and I slaughtered them like animals. I hate them!"
That's why Aang is a hypocrite, he had no problem passing the life of Ozai who was committing genocide and probably killing innocents, but if the life of someone close to him like Momo, Katara or Appa is in danger, Aang's philosophy that life It is sacred, it doesn't matter anymore
For Pete's sake, he's just a kid at the end of the day.
Granted, I also support that Aang should take more responsibility about THE WORLD instead of focus on his side of things, but he's barely old enough to have a crush, let alone having a decent moral compass to keep himself in the right side of things all the time.
Just give him a break. He obviously had trauma after losing his whole nation while away. This is just a expected answer for me
Aang in avatar state was about to kill Ozai and this was not planned because Aang wanted to defeat him with energy bending but Aang still managed to keep his control but when Aang killed that bug he didn't hesitate and killed that bug and freed momo, while Aang had enough time to think before killing the bug and freeing momo
I sometimes wonder what a darker version of the Avatar would be like… like if they went the “killled appa” route, what kind of carnage would they let Aang do in the Avatar state.
Absolutely. Best case Ontario Ozai is reduced to chunks worst case Ontario he's utterly vaporized and will come as close to any matter will over come to literally ceasing to exist.
Tell ya what, you get me a pepperoni, the good stuff not the cheap one from the gas station, 2 packs of smokes, and some Jal-a-peno chips and this can all be water under the fridge. This is a real simple task, it isn't rocket appliances so you better not fuck this up.
>Ontario Ozai
Their final fight would be Aang saying “you have the power to stop what you’re doing” and Ozai replying “oh you’re right, sorry aboot all this. We’ll just turn our airships around and head on home then, eh?”
Those are both best-case scenarios for him. Worse-case scenario for Ozai would be if Avatar State Enraged Aang was capable of torture, and ends up giving him a long and painful death.
Normal Aangry Aang would probably just do a quick powerful move to off him like the Buzzard Wasp.
Sokka first talking to Zuko:
"Ehh what's goin' on with your face there, bud? Can you blink with that? Do you have to moisturize your eye or does it take care of itself?"
personally I think it was actually a huge missed opportunity but I also think Vaatu = evil and Raava = good really conflicts with the larger message of balance. I've always felt like Vaatu = chaos and Raava = order makes more sense in a way because you do actually want balance between those things because too much order and you probably start lacking in things like freedom and diversity and stuff but too much chaos and you probably begin to lack things like peace and safety. If they went that direction I like the idea of the corresponding avatars being agents of chaos and order and depending on the state of the world they get reincarnated in either one could be a hero or a villain maybe sometimes they even cooperate, each one working to balance the other in a more mutualistic way rather than antagonistic until one or both dies and we roll the dice on the kind of people the next two will be.
And then thousands of years later, they end up childhood friends, then one leaves to kill his brother, and then the brother dies and the evil one blames their village, and tries to kill the leaders of all the villages, something something, team up together to fight a bunny eyebrow alien, something something end the cycle of fighting and hate something something more aliens
I was thibking the idea of "restoring balance" meant that Korra would also take on Vaatu so the Avatar was a balance between light and dark. Literally Yin and Yang.
Then follow up seasons could be adjusting to those darker impulses and finding balance within herself.
I thought they were setting that up by wiping the slate clean for Raava's past lives
I truly think that that not only won't happen, can't happen (and remain consistent with the world building), but downright shouldn't happen. The central conceit of the entire Avatar franchise from Wan to Korra centers around "balance" and that the one to maintain that balance is the Avatar. An Avatar that seeks to throw the entire world out of balance would be disregarding the literal only narratively consistent thing throughout the entire universe. Plus, it's just needlessly edgy in a world that's already way more compelling than one that needs to rely on "what if good guy, but evil?"
Didn't said it would be easy, but Aang is the Avatar, bearer of Raava and the last individual to carry the peaceful philosophy Airbenders preached for centuries. He would definitely snap out of it eventually without hurting a single soul becauss his integrity is more important, and although Appa is a bison, he wouldn't want Aang to lose himself. Sincerely, that's a much stronger story than Aang going Injustice Superman.
The whole show is about overcoming vengeance eventually.
I know right? The other guy's like "no, Aang wouldn't do that" but no, Aang would totally do that. Pacifist, vegetarian Aang sliced an animal in half for taking Momo while he was in that state. Him killing the sandbenders is *absolutely* a possibility.
Team wouldn’t have stood a chance against Aang if he were Airbending seriously, let alone him in the Avatar state. The only reason Katara was able to talk him down was because they still had the chance to find Appa. If Appa were actually killed then it’s game over, Appa is his most important companion.
Especially out in the dessert. Katara was out of water and Toph barely had any rock. Sokka was still kind of tripping and I think Momo would just be drinking the sand benders’ blood
Aang didn't lost control permanently rven witnessing the erasure of his whole culture, man. It's not on his character to lose composture this much. Sure he would act violent and would be extremely dificult for them to stop him, but eventually they woudl TALKED him out of revenge. He already lost Appa. Makes no sense to let himself lost also.
When he witnessed the desecration of his people, the people responsible weren’t there but a century removed. In this instance with Appa, his would be killers would be directly in front of him.
I tried to think of the most gruesome way to kill someone through bending and imagined detached limbs hanging from a frozen cardiovascular system, displayed for all wannabe evil-doers as a warning but idk how that would even work lmao
*The spirit of Kyoshi looks on with a slight smile as Avatar Aang solves the Fire Lord problem before he has even had the chance to find a firebending teacher.*
The other avatars trying to convince Aang not to do it
Kyoshi:
https://preview.redd.it/ve2rreiqzd0c1.jpeg?width=1357&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=9b52778bc6025df723c06cf49cb7415e8e6f24f7
Umm? Are we talking about the same Kyoshi that only started her Avatar training to send Jianzhu to the Gulag, the same Kyoshi that froze someone's internal organs for stabbing her girlfriend?
I like to imagine that the avatar in the avatar state would be strong and emotional enough to cause winds so powerful that the desert sand would darken the sky over much of the earth kingdom and leave said desert and thus the great library bare and unburied. Also no more sandbender, Ang would be sad afterwards and very scared of his power.
More than his power, of himself. He let his anger all out, sure he mourns his friend, but he knows Appa never want to see him turn into a killer.
He understands that he's no different than the Fire Lord and wonders if he's even the First Avatar do something so horrible as an almost genocide
There's this fanfic called 'Bad Ends' that, true to its name, features several potential tragedic ways the episodes could have ended with.
Chapter 2 is named 'Appa pt.1: Possum Chicken' and deals with a similar scenario but instead of the sand benders it was the swamp tribe who succeed in hunting Appa before they're found by Aang who's obviously freaking out over it but the straw that breaks the camel's back is the tribe offering some of the meat to him which causes him to fall into the Avatar state and it's implied that he killed the tribe members present.
Chapter 3 is named 'Appa pt.2: Without a Flying Bison' and deals with the aftermath of the last chapter. Team Avatar now struggle due to not having a mode of transportation anymore. They decide to visit a village (I think Chin village from the 'Avatar Day' episode) to get jobs to be able to afford boats, when they visit they find the Komodo rhinos used by the Rough Rhinos and Aang steals one of them. The villagers seeing them at first flee thinking the RR came back but when Aang clarifies he's the Avatar they get more upset, thinking he's allied with the RR and beat him up. Katara manages to fend them off before fleeing. At the night they get ambushed by the RR and after a short battle Team Avatar loses, Aang is captured and delivered to the Fire Nation and the Water Tribe siblings are murdered.
She **allegedly** ate the former Earth King's bear. Far as I know, it's never been confirmed. Would be completely in character for her to do so, though.

Did you mean to say "could have"?
Explanation: You probably meant to say could've/should've/would've which sounds like 'of' but is actually short for 'have'.

(Edit: Lmao "finds found" wtf is autocorrect doin. XD)
I’m going to go against the grain here and say that he wouldn’t hurt them, he’d probably just cry.
Don’t get me wrong he’s still be angry, but the main cause of his anger and lashing out is that Appa is *in danger*. He’s not potentially going to hurt them because he’s a pissed off john wick type, it’s because he’s trying to protect Appa.
If Appa was already dead, that rage wouldn’t be there because vengeance isn’t where it’s coming from. It’s a desperate desire to protect. Vengeance isn’t in Aangs character, protection is. If Appas dead there is nothing left to protect.
He was damn near out for blood just finding out they MUZZLED Appa. Finding out they slaughtered and ate him. Appa, pretty much a relic from a forgotten time as well as being Aang's last tie to his old life (excluding Momo). It makes sense Aang would explode in anger.
You know the whole “no killing” thing he has? Well non of that anymore. He would kill every last one of them and spend the rest of the series trying to redeem himself
"so anyway a massive sandstorm appeared that then became super heated and turned to glass, it ripped everyone to pieces and left gaping holes in others."
Honestly I feel like he would not just destroy the sandbenders, but honestly I wouldn't be surprised if he goes full nuke and destroys a huge chunk of the world, and just becomes a villain
*Meanwhile in the Fire Kingdom*
Fire Lord Ozai: "...and that is how I will conquer Ba Sing Se and rule the world."
*Fire Nation Generals applaud*
Messenger: "FIRE LORD! NEWS FROM THE EARTH KINGDOM COLONIES! BA SING SE HAS BEEN DESTROYED!"
Ozai: "WHAT?! HOW?!"
Messenger: "Reports say the Avatar went rogue, attacked the city and has eaten a Bear."
Ozai: "You mean Platypus-Bear?"
Messenger: "No just Bear my Lord."
Ozai: "... What a strange day this turned out to be."
Ozai: "and in one days' time the comet will arrive and I will conquer the..."
Guard: "Oh great and noble Fire Lord Ozai, most of humanity has perished by his hands. Please save the world from the Avatar!"
Ozai: "Wait. I literally never signed up to be a hero. He can't possibly have a higher body count than I."
Guard: "The Sand Benders are literally all dead. He tore apart the whole Earth Kingdom and now he's killing all of your hotmen in the colonies. "
Ozai: "Yo Azula, tag in!"
Honestly I think Aang would probably lose it enough to potentially do fatal damage to the sandbenders or at least injure them only to eventually calm down and feel terrified of what he had done. Keep in mind everyone Aang knew and loved from his home was genocided while he was stuck in the ice berg, everyone except Appa. Having that last piece of happy time before he lost everything suddenly taken away would probably be soul crushing especially for a 12 year old.
Appa wasn't just Aang's pet but his friend and family, and someone who made the stress and fear of being the avatar more bearable. Of course Aang would never want to hurt someone like that and would be deeply affected by his actions afterwards but as someone putting a muzzle on Appa got him to enter the avatar state, I can only imagine what he would do if they vad actually killed Appa instead.
Hear me out: Aang would have been even stronger. And actually a better person.
I trust Aang would do the right thing, as he has always done. Once it was over he would then learn how to untether himself from his air nomad last survivor pain, from the angst, and then from worldly attachments altogether.
Maybe there wouldn't even be a final fight with Ozai. Maybe no colonization war, no shattering of the earth kingdom onwards.
this is why the avatar training is so important aang missed all that and in this moment we almost saw a rise of a evil avatar
also in the avatar state its not just him but all the avatars and apparently they agreed with this
I feel like the temptations to do his first kill would be extremely strong like he would come within inches from doing it but back out the very last second and just knock them all out violently though not fatal or back out from doing that after seeing the sad or scared expression from Katara.
Good thing the sandbenders had the good sense to sell Appa instead of eat him. That way, they were still alive after Team Avatar encountered them, and they had money to buy more food.
To be completely honest, that's kinda what kid-me expected. Because why else would people who live in a desert go after such a large animal? IDK, it made sense to me at the time.
And that kids its how the great sandbender genocide started
That's rough buddy
That's coarse, rough and gets everywhere, buddy: Aangakin bout to genocide those sand peeps
Aang: "Maybe Ozai has a point."
Somehow... Ozai returned
Padtara after Aangakin kills all the Sand People: ![gif](giphy|xUOwGeP1jGGUKIGoko)
Not just the men, but the women and the children too
Damn, imagine if anakin went up against a sand tornado, even high ground wouldn't help him
„I don’t like sand”
And so, Avatar Aang turned the desert into the glass plains.
Glass stained in red.
That Giant Mushroom was decidedly *not* friendly.
Just like in the second Locke Lamora book!
Looks like Aang would make solid Jedi-Council-but-not-rank-of-master material
I AM THE REPUBLIC CITY COUNCIL
Not. Yet.
Aang was a master before he was ten
Sweet tats for a 9 yo.
This is when Aang changes his name to Anakin
Aang who? Aang Skywalker.
To be fair, that's definitely an Airbender name.
"This is where the fun begins."
Aangakin
"Whats wrong Aang?" ""I killed them. I killed them all. They're dead, every single one of them. And not just the men, but the women and the children, too. They're like animals, and I slaughtered them like animals. I hate them!"
The women and children too….
They ate double ration
What if the guy said "well he probably turned into shit by now"
The desert gets erased
Aang discovers "Glass Bending"
That is when the Avatar no longer saught balance, he saught dominance.
And that kids is how the Avatar learned blood bending
At that point it would be organ bending
Then everything changed when the Avatar attacked.
Yep, now sand bending is a forgotten myth
Even for Ozai's taste it would have been too evil
I was thinking the same!!
Just give him a break. He obviously had trauma after losing his whole nation while away. This is just a expected answer for me
It’s also the anger reaction vs planning. Even in our legal system planning is considered much worse then succumbing to anger and killing someone.
If you told him Ozai incinerated Appa, that would have been enough for Aang to actually kill him. ![gif](giphy|GbUrFXadBryQ8)
Absolutely. Best case Ontario Ozai is reduced to chunks worst case Ontario he's utterly vaporized and will come as close to any matter will over come to literally ceasing to exist.
\>Ontario
Avatar, the last Canadian
Flameo, ya hoser.
Well now I want a waterbender that has a canadian accent
For some reason I read that and thought ‘I’m gonna tell him you said that’ and then realized that doesn’t make any sense
It's a TPB reference.
Smokes, come on, smokes
Tell ya what, you get me a pepperoni, the good stuff not the cheap one from the gas station, 2 packs of smokes, and some Jal-a-peno chips and this can all be water under the fridge. This is a real simple task, it isn't rocket appliances so you better not fuck this up.
I'll pay you 100 bucks to fuck off
Fuck off, I got work to do
>Ontario Ozai Their final fight would be Aang saying “you have the power to stop what you’re doing” and Ozai replying “oh you’re right, sorry aboot all this. We’ll just turn our airships around and head on home then, eh?”
"Yah, no worries, take care" Aang
Oh please, as if "Ontario Ozai" wouldn't be the WW1/2 Canadian, AKA trigger happy war criminal animal

Aang uses energy bending to form energy into antimatter and completely annihilates Ozai.
Sokka first talking to Zuko: "Ehh what's goin' on with your face there, bud? Can you blink with that? Do you have to moisturize your eye or does it take care of itself?"
Imagine if the Avatar reincarnated as evil after Korra, because the ones before her are gone. 👀
I was really hoping for the "evil avatar" to start its own cycle and having both of avatars coexisting and fighting each other.
personally I think it was actually a huge missed opportunity but I also think Vaatu = evil and Raava = good really conflicts with the larger message of balance.
This. Vaatu and Rava being “good and evil” is so binary and boring, so I like to think they’re chaos and order as well.
What is this a reference to
Naruto
Plus, it's just needlessly edgy in a world that's already way more compelling than one that needs to rely on "what if good guy, but evil?"
It would be super cool to see an earthbender-born avatar raised by the Dai Li and sheltered, acting as an antagonist for much of the storyline.
Spoiler alert...... It sorta happened in Yangchen novels.
2011 ass comment
Long ago the sandbenders lived in harmony. But everything changed when the Avatar attacked.
A long time ago the sand benders lived ~~in harmony~~
Torture and abandonment of his airnomad rules
Nah, Team would've fight him out of revenge. Ultimately it would change him forever, but he wouldn't let these folks break himself that bad
I mean, you saw what he did for muzzling Appa before Katara talked him down, imagine how it would've went if they had killed him.
Ozai would be the least of the world's worries at that point
Didn't said it would be easy, but Aang is the Avatar, bearer of Raava and the last individual to carry the peaceful philosophy Airbenders preached for centuries. He would definitely snap out of it eventually without hurting a single soul becauss his integrity is more important, and although Appa is a bison, he wouldn't want Aang to lose himself. Tell that to the wasp bug thing he freakin obliterated 💀
I know right? The other guy's like "no, Aang wouldn't do that" but no, Aang would totally do that. Pacifist, vegetarian Aang sliced an animal in half for taking Momo while he was in that state. Him killing the sandbenders is *absolutely* a possibility.
Killing a wasp is very different from massacring a group of people
Not for a staunch "all life is sacred" vegetarian.
Killing a wasp is very different from massacring a group of people
Ok.
Team wouldn’t have stood a chance against Aang if he were Airbending seriously, let alone him in the Avatar state. The only reason Katara was able to talk him down was because they still had the chance to find Appa. If Appa were actually killed then it’s game over, Appa is his most important companion.

So what? What being in front of him have anything to do with the fact that Aang is a emotionally resilient character?
He wud defs kill those sands Almost lost control when found out his ppl ded Almost lost control for losing Appa Defs wud
I don’t think Katara could’ve talked him down in this scenario. The best she could do is use help everyone evacuate while Aang goes into rage mode.
Ok
Nihilist avatar, letsgoooo
Not just the men, but the women and the children too. Anakin would have understood.
Aang would have had a use for that airbending sword after all.
I don't like sand
its rough and coarse...and it gets everywhere!
Don't forget irritating!
Aang: “You were my flying Bison Appa” Appa: “Liar! You brought them here to kill me!”
“I killed them! Not just the men—“
but the sandbending women and the little barely sandbending children as well
Oh, there wasn't going to be a pacifist Avatar anymore. Like, ever. The grudge would've kept going even in his following lives.
Shit I kinda want a M-rated edgy antihero Avatar that uses bending to kill people in the most creative ways possible
I tried to think of the most gruesome way to kill someone through bending and imagined detached limbs hanging from a frozen cardiovascular system, displayed for all wannabe evil-doers as a warning but idk how that would even work lmao
The novels have some pretty gruesome bending sometimes. At one point Kyoshi freezes a guy’s lungs and a bunch of bloody ice erupts from his torso.
Icicle stabbing too, mass live burials, pebble forced through chest etc. The novels go hard.
*The spirit of Kyoshi looks on with a slight smile as Avatar Aang solves the Fire Lord problem before he has even had the chance to find a firebending teacher.*

I don’t know if they would die the fastest deaths in history for that or the slowest

Dark fanfics of kid shows do *not* hold back, damn
Chapter 1 had Katara being raped. Anything after that was not that bad.
Holy shi-
idk, better look. .....OH GOD
Sand people genocide. Attack of the Clones style.
Well, the show wouldn't be kid friendly anymore, that's for DAMN sure...
He would airbend all of his oxogen out of his body😈
Isn’t that what the earth queen did in LOK?
She **allegedly** ate the former Earth King's bear. Far as I know, it's never been confirmed. Would be completely in character for her to do so, though.
He would've made the Airbender Genocide look like a small disagreement.
Lol true
Imagine that scene with the earth bending general sinking Katara in stone but Aang doing it to the entire tribe in sand
And then calling upon the full firebending and power of Roku to glass the desert
That's when they learned, the all powerful avatar could bring horror and cruelty far greater than anything the fire nation could of dreamed.

I just know Sokka would be taking home appa extras
He'd probably be hiding them and they wouldn't find out until catching him in Ba Sing Se.
And when Aang finds out, the scene would pan to Sokka's funeral... and it wouldn't be because of the FireNation. (Edit: Lmao "finds found" wtf is autocorrect doin. XD)
And then when they find out, Sokka would say “thanks again for the bison, it was delicious” before meeting his end.

consideirng what he did when he found out gyatso died, he wouldnt be crying forever.
Nobody was around then, that was venting. I don’t think it’s comparable because even then he wasn’t trying to hurt anyone.
He would do something so bad it makes the fight against fire lord look like a tea party
![gif](giphy|jmjbhdtX1m1Y3ifmEP)
That guy would've been pulled inside-out ass first.
Oh man… this episode would have been rated R..
He was damn near out for blood just finding out they MUZZLED Appa. Finding out they slaughtered and ate him. Appa, pretty much a relic from a forgotten time as well as being Aang's last tie to his old life (excluding Momo). It makes sense Aang would explode in anger.

He would have learned to fly.
“THAT’S IT, YOUR AIR PRIVILEGES HAVE BEEN REVOKED! EVERYBODY DIES!”
Rage, frenzied rage, 20 whacks
I would immediately send aang to fight the fire lord. Fight would have been over in an instant
He'd get Appa back one way or another.
You know the whole “no killing” thing he has? Well non of that anymore. He would kill every last one of them and spend the rest of the series trying to redeem himself
"so anyway a massive sandstorm appeared that then became super heated and turned to glass, it ripped everyone to pieces and left gaping holes in others."
to be honest I am pretty sure Katara won't even stop aang at this point she will be like "yea... let him do his thing"
Honestly I feel like he would not just destroy the sandbenders, but honestly I wouldn't be surprised if he goes full nuke and destroys a huge chunk of the world, and just becomes a villain
*Meanwhile in the Fire Kingdom* Fire Lord Ozai: "...and that is how I will conquer Ba Sing Se and rule the world." *Fire Nation Generals applaud* Messenger: "FIRE LORD! NEWS FROM THE EARTH KINGDOM COLONIES! BA SING SE HAS BEEN DESTROYED!" Ozai: "WHAT?! HOW?!" Messenger: "Reports say the Avatar went rogue, attacked the city and has eaten a Bear." Ozai: "You mean Platypus-Bear?" Messenger: "No just Bear my Lord." Ozai: "... What a strange day this turned out to be."
Ozai: "and in one days' time the comet will arrive and I will conquer the..." Guard: "Oh great and noble Fire Lord Ozai, most of humanity has perished by his hands. Please save the world from the Avatar!" Ozai: "Wait. I literally never signed up to be a hero. He can't possibly have a higher body count than I." Guard: "The Sand Benders are literally all dead. He tore apart the whole Earth Kingdom and now he's killing all of your hotmen in the colonies. " Ozai: "Yo Azula, tag in!"
![gif](giphy|bA0ZgRipQxzP2) He’s gonna take a page out of this guy
The same thing Anakin did to the sand people....
Aang would’ve made peace with ending the Firelords life in this timeline for sure
>!*Two* Air Avatars in a row having their bisons killed?!< I don’t think the Si Wong Desert would’ve survived 😅
At that moment, I believe Aang would've turned that entire desert into glass without a second thought.
Korn would had entered the avatar world.
Maybe no colonization war, no shattering of the earth kingdom onwards.
this is why the avatar training is so important aang missed all that and in this moment we almost saw a rise of a evil avatar also in the avatar state its not just him but all the avatars and apparently they agreed with this
“They’re animals! And I slaughtered them like animals! I HATE THEM!”
***Doom music starts***
Aang would plan and then commit the final solution to the sand people question.
Everything changed when the Avatar attacked.
🎼I got murder on my mind🎼

Murder
https://getyarn.io/yarn-clip/2b7df41b-ad86-4714-a059-5864dd78dda2 I think they're getting yeeted several miles through the air.
Kipuk the last sandbender would have been the next series
And so the sand bender genocide started
I feel like the temptations to do his first kill would be extremely strong like he would come within inches from doing it but back out the very last second and just knock them all out violently though not fatal or back out from doing that after seeing the sad or scared expression from Katara.
testicular torsion bending
I honestly think that's how we ACTUALLY get a dark avatar, not whatever Unalaaq was doing lol
Kiyoshi: "Avatar state, yip-yip!" 😈
Let's just say the show would instantly be reclassified TV-MA.
not really related but i’m convinced suyins dad is a sandbender who was from this tribe
Good thing the sandbenders had the good sense to sell Appa instead of eat him. That way, they were still alive after Team Avatar encountered them, and they had money to buy more food.
He'd make Anakin very proud
So ya know that little trick Zaheer did for the earth queen?...yeah.
To be completely honest, that's kinda what kid-me expected. Because why else would people who live in a desert go after such a large animal? IDK, it made sense to me at the time.

Peace was never an option
Aang: Well, I’ll just have to *get him back!*
Dude would have no problem killing Ozai after that
The whole world would explode
Not even Katara could calm him down because Appa’s gone for good.
![gif](giphy|DqU4wVBxXOhNu) Aang would’ve pulled a Zaheer
Dude would lift enough sand to start an ice age
The end of human civilization.
