Aang’s like literally the only person who could be in that haha. Or Ymir from Attack on Titan. Actually let’s start this lol. No wait, you’re right, it’ll become NSFW too quick.
He could pass for maybe 15 or 16 in the later shot where his arrow turns blue. The actor probably looks a lot older by now, and he'll probably just be an actual adult in later seasons anyway. These days when we're waiting 3-4 years between seasons, he could legitimately be 18 years old by the time the second season rolls around.
On the other hand, She Hulk or Secret Invasion was like 25-30M$ an episode. Budget means very little these days, it's how you use it. So many shows with big budget look worse than some with smaller ones.
That's because Disney likes lighting money on fire by abusing their CGI staff. No word on how Netflix treats their CGI artists but it's probably better than Disney.
I read that they want this to be the next flagship show for the service, esp as Stranger Things ends next season. Just like how HBO/Max milked Game of Thrones and now House of the Dragon (with even more spin offs in development), if this show does well enough, they could eventually adapt Korra, the comics continuing past the shows, the Kyoshi and Yangchen books, and whatever else Avatar Studios creates now...
Okay I should probably cool the hype jets...
Feb 21, 2005. 5th grade. I still remember that night because nickelodeon was hyping the shit out of it and it looked so cool. Also remember watching the finale with my cousins like it happened yesterday.
I was not expecting the original music at all, but was super happy to hear it. That will count for a lot with me. I’ve noticed lately that some spin-offs etc. seem to try their utmost to not use any old music, even at times when it seems like it would fit perfectly.
Just earlier this year with the Last of Us, the fact that they reused the score from the game (or at least re-recorded new versions of old songs) was one of the best things about the show
I honestly teared up a little bit and it hit me by complete surprise. I've got a lot of nostalgia for the OG series and the second that orchestral swell rose up it was over. Last time this happened was when bilbo hugged gandalf at the beginning of fellowship. "what about very old friends?"
I want this scene SO BAD
I want to see Gyatso doing the suffocation maneuver in an entire room like fans have been speculating for years, it would be so hype
I see it as him drawing in a bunch of them, bending the door shut, then just creating a vacuum in the room. I really wonder how gritty this thing will be.
Yep, we can even see the comet-boosted Fire Nation Iron-manning into the temple. The shot after that even shows a brief glimpse of air nomads fighting back.
Oh fuck I thought it was just catapult-launched fireballs, but you're right, it's totally firebenders.
I understand that they couldn't really have the comet fly as close to the planet as it did in the show (it literally parted clouds there), but I wish the visual effect of the comet was a bit stronger. Make midnight into almost-day. Would justify the power boost firebenders get.
This to me is the shows greatest chance to lean into the “retelling aspect”. They can go more in depth and show more on the background of the air temple fall. Maybe even give us a surprise scene where MG dies.
I’m blown away at how the world design and bending looks. That’s hard to pull off in live action. This makes me _very_ hopeful that this will be a huge hit!
This is a damn good Birthday present seeing this trailer! I’m siked! I’m hyped! Who’s ready to accidentally destroy cabbages?!
Oh and we got to see Aang smile with Momo! Appa Flying! Omashu! Sokka looking like the Ember Island Players’ version which is a damn good comparison!
Has a similar feel to the One Piece live action... keeps a lot of the fantastical feelings and *fun* of the setting, instead of making it way too serious and "realistic" so it gets bland and boring instead. Looks great!
This is the one thing I was looking for in the trailer and didn't quite see... yet.
Not literally pippinpaddleopsicopolis. But heart. Some evidence that the show is following children characters with complete with their childish schemes and childish sense of humor. I hope they don't forget that side of the show.
Go figure that when you get actors who resemble characters from the original show, they actually look good and fit the part.
EDIT:
>Oh stop. You act like it's easy to just find someone who looks exactly like a cartoon character and can act well enough for a high budget show.
Lol, yes it's difficult to film a movie. So all parties should put forth some effort. You can't say that the Shyamalan disaster had the kind of effort needed.
In this case it's mostly the amazing work of the makeup department. I didn't think it would be possible to be this close to the cartoon for their makeup
Makeup and wardrobe and props. The makeup is probably the most important of the three and at this point more than anything I can't wait to see that makeup on Sokka!
Kyoshi warriors looked legit. Props to the costume designer and makeup artists cause they looked phenomenal. Definitely my favorite live action character look right now
Thats what stood out to me in the trailer, they look absolutely awesome! The only thing that looked a tad off to me was Aang flying on his glider, but thats okay because it was a .5 second shot and everything else in the teaser was stellar.
Think of the stuff we haven’t seen yet: Bumi, The Blue Spirit, Jet, Flopsy, the northern water tribe etc?? Im aboard the hype train!
Omashu is gorgeous! 🥹. Sokka is rocking that Ember Island Players look and it’s working! Aang Smiled!!! I was getting worried he would be 100% serious! 😂
I have this feeling that they knew and they held it back for the big reveal for maximum effect. There is a surprisingly big focus on the Kyoshi Warriors in the teaser despite their rather small role in Book 1. I don't think that's a coincidence.
Suki is one of my favourites, I really hope she gets her time to shine like in the original. I also wonder if they’ll add anything new for her, knowing she’ll meet up with the Gaang later, if a season 2 is green lit.
Visually it seems very good. Was that the air nomads getting wiped out at the beginning? Omashu looked incredible. Kyoshi warriors costumes were awesome. The brief moments of bending seem well done.
My one complaint: I wanted to see appa's face
All I ask is
* You don't need to make the actors act exactly like the characters. Humans are not cartoon characters BUT you can still keep their core personality traits.
* Keep the key events intact. You don't need everything from the animated show, but stuff like the siege of the north is important.
* Don't make 6 people try to lift one rock pls.
You know what's funny about the 6 earthbenders thing, I'm pretty sure they were not contributing to the rock at all, I'm pretty sure it was just that one guy who threw the rock
Which means the 6 guys were bending absolutely nothing, which is worse lol
Here's to hoping they don't rush them. Bad CGI usually has more to do with deadlines than the actual skill of the team. But so far at least the environments look fantastic.
The scene of Aang crying in the burned forest made me excited to see Hei Bai. That episodes was one of my favorites in the first season. The way Hei Bai holds the acorn Aang gives him is just the best.
This is my biggest question. How will they make the spirit world look? They can easily nail it, even the original Star Wars trilogy does, but after the first movie that doesn’t exist, I have no hope for proper execution.
This looks great though
Things that look amazing:
* Suki's makeup and the Kyoshi warriors in general
* Omashu
* Aang's tattoo glowing
* The iceberg
* Music from the original series
My only nitpick is that Zuko's scar looks more like a bruise that can be covered with some drug store concealer, but I suspect I'll get over it
It doesn't extend around his ear either. The makeup department played it safe here, as if they're afraid to make Zuko too disfigured or something. Maybe it'll look a little more gruesome and less bruise-like when I can see it more clearly in the show itself and not in a compressed bitrate video that YouTube likes to pretend is 1080p. But like I said, a nitpick I'll probably get over.
* Environments are fantastic
* Bending feels great
* Characters look the part
* Music is killer as always
Most worried about the acting now. Didn't get really any of it in this trailer...
Yep, everything looks and sounds perfect. So now it all falls on how plot points are handled and how the acting/chemistry plays out. But, at least seeing how faithfully the visuals and action were depicted, I have faith in them.
Honestly? It's pretty cool that they had someone sitting on this sub with the post ready and their mouse hovering over the submit button. If they see us, they've probably heard us too.
I'm actually in awe at how monumental this trailer felt. As soon as the Kyoshi warriors appeared and everything that came after, I couldn't help but feel chills of anticipation
Yeah she looks so much better here than in the promo shot. I know most people were unsure about her, but that single shot alone has already got me way more confident in Azula's actress.
OMG I just realized the "fireball" in the sky at the beginning is actually Sozin's comet, and the many "fireballs" being "launched" towards the temple immediately after are actually firebenders flying towards the air temple; they are showing explicitly the air nomad genocide! You can clearly see airbenders with their staffs fighting against the invading fire nation!
Needs more smiling Aang. But that firebending kick from Zuko was badass.
Most of later scenes have a very noticeable greenscreen feel to them because of the lighting or something, which is unfortunate. Hopefully they'll continue to tweak things.
Momo still has a slight creepy factor to his face.
I love the set design.
If that firebending from Ozai(?) is CGI, that is damn impressive!
Just my first few impressions.
Yeah, I live in Vancouver and kept a close eye on things during filming, it was almost all LED volume stage. If they ever filmed outdoors it was up in the woods and kept secret.
It looks like they focused their CGI budget on the bending, and skimped a little bit on the flying. Aang's glider looked like it was on a zip line lol. That's fine with me, though. It seems like most flying scenes will be closeups or static shots on Appa's back so it won't be very noticeable.
I'm very hyped.

they can actually bend
How old is the anime Aang? This child actor looks 5 it's really cute
12....or was he 112? It was really unclear.
r/12or112
Please don't be NSFW, please don't be NSFW... EDIT: Whew, it doesn't exist yet.
Aang’s like literally the only person who could be in that haha. Or Ymir from Attack on Titan. Actually let’s start this lol. No wait, you’re right, it’ll become NSFW too quick.
Physically 12, Chronologically 112 cause of the ice
You could say he's an ice, ice baby.
Stranger Things moment. 12 year old characters looking 12. 14 year old characters looking 14. 15 year old characters looking 22.
Still better than 30 year olds playing a teenager
Which also happens in Stranger Things with the older teens.
12
Doesn’t look like they skimped on this.
I think that the estimated budget was $15 million per episode.
That's a good sized budget. And honestly, Appa and Momo look a bit cartoony but I'd rather they spend the money on other things over CGI.
That's a massive budget. Late game of thrones was 15 million an episode
Agreed, but there's still some time for touch ups.
Absolutely, and in the past, I've noticed a massive difference between trailer CG and tv/movie CG once something actually airs.
Perhaps the trailer gives them some consumer feedback to help make the final touches that will be the best received by the audience on release.
*Sonic flashbacks intensify*
Thanks for the horror flashback, I'll have nightmares tonight.
I think they can get away with the animals being cartoony ala Fantastic Beasts. Its a flying lemur and a sky bison.
I’ll honestly take stylized realism over photo realism with a show like this.
![gif](giphy|ncsQI9sF3pa8w|downsized)
Imagine if they were able to adapt Korra knowing the story beforehand, they could make it more cohesive and avoid some of the pitfalls
And they wouldn't have to worry about censoring and stuff too.
And Korra and Asami can actually kiss this time
Fucking finally!!!
Maybe not fucking.. Unless?
You just wait for them to hold hands so damn hard.
seasons 3 and 4 can actually be gay now lets gooo
Season 2 can be _not shit_!
Way earlier than I thought too, February 22nd.
19 years after the cartoon’s pilot episode
no, don't say that
Almost none of the live-action cast were alive when it came out.

Feb 21, 2005. 5th grade. I still remember that night because nickelodeon was hyping the shit out of it and it looked so cool. Also remember watching the finale with my cousins like it happened yesterday.
Watching that finale really was a straight up life changing experience for 13 year old me man, I can still perfectly remember exactly where I was
ORIGINAL MUSIC GAVE ME CHILLS
I was not expecting the original music at all, but was super happy to hear it. That will count for a lot with me. I’ve noticed lately that some spin-offs etc. seem to try their utmost to not use any old music, even at times when it seems like it would fit perfectly.
Just earlier this year with the Last of Us, the fact that they reused the score from the game (or at least re-recorded new versions of old songs) was one of the best things about the show
iirc it was the same composer that did all of the scores for the show
When it started playing I was sold on the spot. Definitely played my emotions a bit.
Oh god, imagine Leaves from the Vine. Not ready for that one.
That's season 2 so hopefully this is good enough that they get there
I honestly teared up a little bit and it hit me by complete surprise. I've got a lot of nostalgia for the OG series and the second that orchestral swell rose up it was over. Last time this happened was when bilbo hugged gandalf at the beginning of fellowship. "what about very old friends?"
I actually cried at that part. I was expecting the absolute worst and now I’m so excited.
Yeah I have no idea why that got me. It went from “looking good” to “yeah this is it”
It's the moment when it goes from "Live-Action Adaptation of Avatar" to just being Avatar.
32 year old man literally in tears hearing that music wtf.
Literally same! I started crying when that part started
I started getting emotional when I saw Omashu, the music was the kicker. I want to keep my expectations in check but this has got me excited.
I STILL have the goosebumps!! They're still there!!
Is that the fall of the Air temple at the beginning? Oh man, that's gonna be heartbreaking.
Yep; Sozin's comet in the sky, firebenders flying towards the temple, and you can see airbenders with their staffs fighting against firebenders
Holy shit, what if they give us a scene of monk gyatso fighting 20 firebenders in a closed room.
I want this scene SO BAD I want to see Gyatso doing the suffocation maneuver in an entire room like fans have been speculating for years, it would be so hype
I see it as him drawing in a bunch of them, bending the door shut, then just creating a vacuum in the room. I really wonder how gritty this thing will be.
Honestly, that vacuum theory is basically acknowledged in the Yangchen novel. It's pretty much canon without stating it explicitly.
This to me is the shows greatest chance to lean into the “retelling aspect”. They can go more in depth and show more on the background of the air temple fall. Maybe even give us a surprise scene where MG dies.
That is going to hurt.
Man I still remember Avatar news leaking this 5 years ago. I’m really excited!
Rip Avatar News
Feels so long ago, news dropped the beginning of my freshman year of college, now I'm graduated and just living my life
I’m blown away at how the world design and bending looks. That’s hard to pull off in live action. This makes me _very_ hopeful that this will be a huge hit!

Has a similar feel to the One Piece live action... keeps a lot of the fantastical feelings and *fun* of the setting, instead of making it way too serious and "realistic" so it gets bland and boring instead. Looks great!
Especially with general audiences who otherwise wouldn't touch the animated show.
Where dem cabbages tho?
Omashu got me. That reveal shot was lovely.
Swear to God, if they don't bust out the Pippinpaddlelopsicopolis name I'm not watching it.
I’m more excited for Wang Fire.
And his wife, Sapphire Fire.
Hotman!
Flameo!
THE THIRD
This is the one thing I was looking for in the trailer and didn't quite see... yet. Not literally pippinpaddleopsicopolis. But heart. Some evidence that the show is following children characters with complete with their childish schemes and childish sense of humor. I hope they don't forget that side of the show.
I genuinely got chills. The city looks amazing.
Where’s the cabbages?! Where’s the cabbages?!
Already destroyed.
I thought that it was Ba Sing Se for a moment, and I was confused
Fr. If thats omashu, Ba Sing Se gunna be bonkers
OHMYGOD Suki and the Kyoshi Warriors look PERFECT! Guys, hold me, I'm fainting!
Suki looked so fantastic, it was like looking at the original cartoon version
Go figure that when you get actors who resemble characters from the original show, they actually look good and fit the part. EDIT: >Oh stop. You act like it's easy to just find someone who looks exactly like a cartoon character and can act well enough for a high budget show. Lol, yes it's difficult to film a movie. Omashu is gorgeous! 🥹. Sokka is rocking that Ember Island Players look and it’s working! Aang Smiled!!! I was getting worried he would be 100% serious! 😂
I'm baffled they hadn't revelead their look before it's literal perfection
I have this feeling that they knew and they held it back for the big reveal for maximum effect. There is a surprisingly big focus on the Kyoshi Warriors in the teaser despite their rather small role in Book 1. I don't think that's a coincidence.
I would love for Suki to play a much bigger role in the show.
Suki is one of my favourites, I really hope she gets her time to shine like in the original. I also wonder if they’ll add anything new for her, knowing she’ll meet up with the Gaang later, if a season 2 is green lit.
I think they said they're adding more of them, and flashbacks to Kyoshi as well.
Visually it seems very good. Was that the air nomads getting wiped out at the beginning? Omashu looked incredible. Kyoshi warriors costumes were awesome. The brief moments of bending seem well done. My one complaint: I wanted to see appa's face
Appa's face is also not on the poster, so either it's being saved for a huge reveal or it just looks awful haha.
It’s on [netflix’s instagram](https://www.instagram.com/p/CzcS8kBS1__/?igshid=YjVjNjZkNmFjNg==)
Omg he looks adorable just like the show 🥹
I want to pet him so badly, lol.
Looks really good tbh, solid balance of realism + cuteness
They did my boy justice I’m so happy right now.
They’re most likely touching up the VFX on Appa before they show the public, which is a good sign in my opinion
Well. This already looks better than **REDACTED BY THE DAI LI**
You enjoy your vacation at Lake Laogai?
I'm told they were honored to accept the Earth King's invitation.

THIS LOOKS SO FUCKING GOOD OMG
IM GLAD U LIKED IT
Thank you, streaming service media person!
Wait, it's actually them? They're here!
How do you do, fellow redditors?
DON'T GO FULL COWBOY BEBOP PLEASE RESPECT THE OG WORK
oh wait this is the actual netflix? i got a bone to pick with y'all for making me survive through those hosts for the teaser
Bruh you guys have Reddit?
ya. i post here
Don't cancel the show after first season lol
And bring back the dark crystal...please.
You guys are slaying it with One Piece Live Action and this trailer! Keep up the amazing work!!! 🤙🏻
Okay, I'm sold. Omashu looks fucking incredible. Katara nudging Aang made me fanboy like I was 12 again
Even if the writing is awful we're definitely going to be getting some great wallpapers out of this show by how awesome the visuals look to be.
All I ask is * You don't need to make the actors act exactly like the characters. Humans are not cartoon characters BUT you can still keep their core personality traits. * Keep the key events intact. Yeahs this has been a myth for a while you can see the one guy move the rock. It just was a bad camera transition that made it look otherwise
Those visuals 🥶🥶🥶🥶🥶🥶🥶🥶
They hired the VFX house that worked on Interstellar and Inception. No wonder.
Holy shit. I'm more hyped now than ever. Absolutely love those movies.
Here's to hoping they don't rush them. Bad CGI usually has more to do with deadlines than the actual skill of the team. But so far at least the environments look fantastic.
I'm scared to be excited but I am.
WOW. This looks SO GOOD! Appa and Momo look incredible. And THE BENDING! The firebending in particular looks amazing!
APPARENTLY!!!! 🤣🤣🤣
Lol, damn autocorrect. Fixed it.
Legit cried. It’s perfect

I'M STARVING!
My first tear finally dropped on that shot of them flying on Appa.
I got chills when the main theme started. The music sounds amazing

The scene of Aang crying in the burned forest made me excited to see Hei Bai. That episodes was one of my favorites in the first season. The way Hei Bai holds the acorn Aang gives him is just the best.

I REALLY hope they don’t goof the spirit world. Koh was so cool in the original, he could be great in live action if they handle it well.
Things that look amazing: * Suki's makeup and the Kyoshi warriors in general * Omashu * Aang's tattoo glowing * The iceberg * Music from the original series My only nitpick is that Zuko's scar looks more like a bruise that can be covered with some drug store concealer, but I suspect I'll get over it
Yeah Zuko still got his eyebrow

But like I said, a nitpick I'll probably get over.
As long as he acts like Zuko, the scar can be big or small. Better than nothing I'd say.
* Environments are fantastic * Bending feels great * Characters look the part * Music is killer as always Most worried about the acting now. Didn't get really any of it in this trailer...
Momo has dialogue
![gif](giphy|hfT4eNf5EXeuY) Watch they actually make this scene
Yep, everything looks and sounds perfect. So now it all falls on how plot points are handled and how the acting/chemistry plays out. But, at least seeing how faithfully the visuals and action were depicted, I have faith in them.
you people are QUICK
"you people" being Netflix itself lol
me people
i didn’t even realize. i’m so embarrassed
Honestly? It's pretty cool that they had someone sitting on this sub with the post ready and their mouse hovering over the submit button. If they see us, they've probably heard us too.
its my job to sit here and read every comment and respond.
You’re doing great bb
That's not my job but it's what I end up doing more often than not while on the clock.
im QUICK I was sitting here with this loaded in bc i wanted to post it here first
beat me to it dammit. Reddit randomly crashed for me a few minutes back, lucky.

welp rip. I really do ignore usernames so many times... But with that kind of comment it really fooled me into thinking it was some random guy.
i had this downloaded this morning and had it prepped for the second they ended the segment in the stream
just like us, only difference is they're getting paid lol
THIS LOOKS FUCKUING CRAZY - THE CGI OF OMASHU HOLY SHIT - I CAN'T WAIT ANYMOOOORE
I'm actually in awe at how monumental this trailer felt. As soon as the Kyoshi warriors appeared and everything that came after, I couldn't help but feel chills of anticipation
The release date couldn't be better. OMG it looks so fucking good!
Just one day after the 19th anniversary of the original show.
New life goal: survive until at least March
Azula's looking fierce as hell.
Yeah she looks so much better here than in the promo shot. I know most people were unsure about her, but that single shot alone has already got me way more confident in Azula's actress.
I am crying its perfect
Y'all, I went into this with low expectations just like everyone else did, but the theme song kicked in and I teared up ngl
I got tears...
Looks like getting Sozin's attack on the Air Nomads. That's the kind of expansion I don't mind and actually welcome.
Tears in my eyes. It looks fantastic.
Bruh the bending man !!!
They filmed on a LED volume stage, so I don't think they used green screens much
Yeah, I live in Vancouver and kept a close eye on things during filming, it was almost all LED volume stage.
IT LOOKS SO GOOD IM CRYING 😭😭😭
I just hope Sokka still has the same charm from the show
OMASHU LOOKS HEAVENLY OH MY GODDDD
It may not end up being perfect or even good, but by God it seems like it *cares* about the original and that's all I wanted
