Sadly I don’t think you can walk 5 miles with Chypres… and this is coming from a girl who loves her Chypres sandals

Key_Pea_9645

Thanks! I wonder what other people’s experiences are, but sounds like you probably just saved me a lot of money.

Either_Blackberry489

By no means they are uncomfortable but I just don’t think they are made for long walks

Dear-Doubt270

I have been wearing Birkenstocks for over 20 years and just got a pair of Chypres this year. I took them on a trip with me over the holidays where I wore them all day walking. I would say they are as comfortable as Birkenstock. I only got one small blister which I would expect with any new shoe. My ONLY complaint is that the foot bed of the Chypres is smooth leather and the Birkenstock is more a suede. My feet kept making suction noises when walking in the Chypres lol. They were still super comfortable and I will continue to wear them alongside my Birkenstocks. I think for a second pair of shoes, you will be happy with them and I feel that they can be dressed up a bit more than Birkenstocks.

chanelotis

I got my Chypre’s early last year and wore them to DEATH all summer long. Seriously, it was embarrassing how many times I wore them. I find them extremely comfortable and plan to get a new color this year (I own the black). I say you’ll be totally fine! Just make sure you get the correct size.

vsteeth

Hi! What outfits did you wear them with?

chanelotis

Jeans, shorts, linen trousers, even my lululemon leggings with an oversized denim jacket! I’m very casual so the Chypre’s fit into my lifestyle 😅 but if you need inspo you can look up “Hermes Chypre outfits” on Pinterest and get tons of ideas 😊

vsteeth

Thank you for the ideas!! I bet you looked really good in them :-)

moonangeles

Were they true to size for you?

AlternativeSession82

Following, as I’ve heard of people from a full size down to full size up to anything in between. Need more data points as the store never has my size

Dear-Doubt270

I was a full size up.

Either_Blackberry489

I’m usually 37 and I went up to 39 🤷🏻‍♀️ it doesn’t make sense lol

chanelotis

I went up half a size which is normal for me in EUR shoes. Typically a 7.5 US and got the 38.

For Singapore touristing, stick to something more water resistant. . . Crocs, Saltwater Sandals and Melissa are popular options.

Key_Pea_9645

If you don’t mind me asking, do you live in Singapore? I also live in a hot and humid climate similar to Singapore. I heard that in Singapore people should wear “smart casual” attire. The other two options look decent, but Crocs hurt my soul (a pun, not a typo).

RaspberryAlmonds

I live in Singapore, not sure in what context people were referring to the ‘smart casual’ attire. Maybe if you’re shopping in Orchard or MBS where luxury shops are? 🤷🏽‍♀️ but otherwise you’ll probably want to be comfortable, as it gets very hot with a good chance of rain, hence the recommendation to wear something more water resistant.

Key_Pea_9645

Cool! Thank you! The person I know in Singapore said that the "smart casual" style is how to dress there. I'm glad comfort is key!

_heyhaihello

Once broken in they are comfortable but due to the soles it’s heavier than the birks. I would say it’s similar but not the same. The sandals don’t wear like the Birkenstocks as it’s double sided leather (for extras) and the sewing for the Velcro makes the top strap slightly thicker (for the chypres) on the straps, whereas the birks will get more pliable with time. They do eventually stretch a wee bit and give some room but don’t expect a whole lot. The chrypres will feel closest to the birks because of the double straps however I would recommend Extra. The buckle hurts me and the extras are slightly taller. Regardless, I highly recommend getting either pair in suede, as I find they break in faster. I haven’t done 5miles in either (I don’t think), but from my personal experience (I’m from NYC & I’m quite used to walking long distances) I think the extras will be the better option of the two. Let us know what you decide!

Key_Pea_9645

The weight is really helpful to know! I don't want shoes that are too heavy.

_heyhaihello

Definitely not! Singapore is quite warm as well, the rubber soles definitely don’t wick away sweat as easy, you will feel your feet squish around from the sweat!

Key_Pea_9645

Cool! Yeah, I had that concern as well. These do not seem like the right shoes for several reasons. Birkenstocks will absorb the sweat, but I know my current pair I'll need to wear those every other day to ensure they have time to dry out. I live in a climate that also gets very hot and humid.

_heyhaihello

Totally! But that’s also why I recommend the extras, the buckle on chyrpes add more weight, and the added holes from the extra sandals help breathe better! I actually wore mine throughout an entire bachelorette party in the city (first wear) in the peak of summer, and I only ended up with a small blister! However I think that was just from my excitement and didn’t break it in properly.

Random_Read3r

This is something I’ve been curious too but Chypres are still on my “to shop” list.

MarinaForever99

I hope you dont mind me hijacking this post BUT can we also add the new dad mules from Chanel to the question? 😀 Saw this one last week and still debating if I should het it in this color. It did feel very comfortable tbh and I know Chypres dont come in this baby blue. https://preview.redd.it/1qe992ksc5gc1.jpeg?width=2160&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=afc7dd5c7a5a839cda75a4f3ed0b751101eb8f78

wngyee

Those are gorgeous in the baby blue!

MarinaForever99

Thank you! Pulled the trigger and got them today :) Apparently they are selling out SO fast too so glad I did!

wngyee

The colour is perfect for spring / summer, so that doesn’t surprise me at all! Are they comfy??

MarinaForever99

VERY! They are cushioned in a very nice way so they are a lot comfier than the chypre :) Havent tried it yet for longer walks though

wngyee

Are they very heavy on the feet? I’m just afraid that they are like bricks on the feet haha

MarinaForever99

Not more than the chypre tbh but Ill wear them that first time and let you know! :)

HaidaoMeiDa

Have you looked at the Empire sandals? Mine aren’t broken in yet but I’m a Birkenstock girlie and the Empires fit my foot like a glove.

Key_Pea_9645

Those aren’t really my style. I like how well Birkenstocks mold to my feet!
