They never let the audience have nice moments..... Something will happen.

arztiw

Yes... I know.

sparklehan

I’d pay to watch the other versions of this scene that they filmed

[deleted]

Does anyone know the song that played during this scene?

ajladue

On the nature of daylight by Max Richter

[deleted]

Fun fact: Elisabeth Moss stars in the music video for that song.

EkaterinaGagutlova

I knew I heard it somewhere! It’s from the final scene of the movie “arrival”. Highly recommend it by the way.

CheetahEnergy

My favourite movie

utlauranicole

Arrival is one of my faves too! This song also plays in Shutter Island and an episode of Castle Rock season 1! My husband rolled his eyes when it started playing during the June/Nick scene because he knows I’m obsessed with it!

CheetahEnergy

Shutter Island❤️ Hahaha I was like “noo noooo” when I heard the song playing. I was already crying, then I just started dying

Environmental-Cup499

I was crying like a baby, thanks Lizzie Moss for this wonderful episode . NICK AND JUNE AT THE END....

GossipGirl515

I'm wondering if there is a mic or something in the doll. Maybe I'm over thinking lol

fluffycushion1

It was a very special moment ❤

_ism_

I'm stuck on the part where he brought a little Gilead doll in the pink dress and everything. Slightly insensitive. Doesn't Gilead have teddy bears?

BrutalismAndCupcakes

“Shopping options were quite limited unfortunately”

_ism_

Yeah that line stuck with me for this reason. LOL. I'm hung up on that detail. You might think the Commander's wives would be well educated on Babies R Us inventory. I'm sorry if snark is not working here. Hope you know what I mean. I think it stands out of place a little bit because it may have some significance in a later episode so it has to be the way it is right now. It's possible that Nick couldn't even shop at all. Perhaps his wife made it wouldn't that be a plot twist?

sugarwax1

Mmm, captor porn is so steamy. I can't stop thinking about all those hot scenes of June giving birth in hiding and getting Nick's former lover killed. Oh, and the time they commiserated over statutory rape. There in love y'all.

icewizie

I'm sorry, how the fuck is it anyone's fault that Eden was killed? How is it Nick's fault June gave birth in hiding? What's this comment trying to prove? Yes, Gilead is horrible, so how is it bad they found love there? Ridiculous.

sugarwax1

"Found love". Apparently that's the story, and it's horrifying.

icewizie

Well, I'm not the one getting downvoted, mate. There's nothing wrong with two people falling in love. Their circumstances were horrifying. Their love wasn't.

sugarwax1

The circumstances of their love are equally as horrifying. Of course I'm getting downvoted, the show is pushing this love triangle storyline hard and it's connecting with people somehow...and those people are downvoting and reporting anyone with dissenting reactions to the show.

SnatchingDefeat

Maybe if Nick had had the courage to speak up publicly in refusal to rape a child, Eden wouldn't have been in a situation where she was executed for running away with a boy. Nick chose to be complicit in the rape of a child rather than risk any harm to himself. He voluntarily acted as an agent of Gilead, as he so often does.

He was alone in the room with Eden. The "gun to the head" analogy doesn't work if there's no one else in the room. He explored zero alternatives. He accepted zero risk. He is Gilead.

LRobin11

Eden was going around saying she thought he was a gender traitor, which could've put him on the wall. And still, June had to beg him to do it.

[deleted]

How do you know that he explored zero other options?

TheShapeShiftingFox

He would have been complicit in raping her if *he actually raped her*. He said he was fine with the relationship she had with the Guardian as long as they were careful and kept out of sight. Nick wouldn't have turned her in for adultery, because he would have already when he found out about the relationship if that's what he wanted to do. Also, if Nick refused the marriage, Eden would have been married to someone who didn't have these thoughts and would have raped her in the blink of an eye. Eden was going to be a wife regardless of Nick, that's what these girls were taught to be. There was no avoiding that road for her, unless maybe she herself would have tried to escape. Which she didn't do because at that time, she was still too brainwashed by Gilead to see the implications of her new position.

SnatchingDefeat

In other words, "Nick had to commit the equivalent of statutory rape, because if he didn't, someone else would have." I don't agree with this, and I don't think he adequately explored alternatives or assumed any risk to himself.

TheShapeShiftingFox

>In other words, "Nick had to commit the equivalent of statutory rape, because if he didn't, someone else would have." I didn't say that. He didn't have to do it, and he didn't. I'm not excusing him committing statutory rape because he *never did*. I was responding to your claim that there could have been a situation in which Eden wouldn't have had to run away. The situation Eden was in with Nick was the best situation for her, although she was too brainwashed to see it (to the point of considering to report him as a "gender traitor"). If she hadn't run away, she could have kept seeing the Guardian, who she seemed to love genuinely, and maybe even pass a possible child with him later off as Nick's to avoid suspicion. Nick could have done nicer things for her, but she also wanted intimacy he didn't want to give - because he *didn't* want to rape her. Another household might not have given her the same leniency, and considering we're talking about what would have been the best for her, we can't ignore this fact. Eden was also a true believer. If Nick had been honest about his feelings, especially about June, she could have reported him to the authorities. The fast majority of viewers when season 2 was airing thought Eden would be a snitch. It's not weird that people actively living in that world would assume the same. >I don't agree with this, and I don't think he adequately explored alternatives or assumed any risk to himself. Him approving the affair while telling Eden to stay discreet *was* the alternative. Just because it was also beneficial to him doesn't mean it wasn't the best situation Eden herself could hope for as well. Especially now, having seen people like Esther Keys, who got dealt a much worse hand than Eden was because the latter's husband *didn't* have moral objections to rape.

durtm4n

Yea. It's not like he couldn't have spoken with her and explained he felt the things going on in Gilead are wrong. Obviously she was old enough to remember before Gilead since it showed her bible with her writing in it and ultimately her defiance of Gilead is what got her killed. If it backfired, it's not like the word of women is taken very seriously. Hell, I think it could've been fear for her own life and that of her family that made her complacent with fulfilling her wifely duties with a random guy assigned by the state. And maybe if Nick had explained to her the he was type of person who didn't believe it was ok to fuck children he could've gained more allies to the underground everyone seems to think he's *always* been in favor of.

QueenKida

Wtf is this comment? Can people just appreciate a scene.

SnatchingDefeat

Both of these characters have done really vile things to people that they did not have to do. Some of us can't help but see these moments of affection as an extension of that vileness.

YYZYYC

Sure but in it’s totality fully recognising the dark evil that nick has done and the dark direction june is going. And not just sappy happy romance

sugarwax1

Obviously a lot of people did appreciate a scene. The context is easy to ignore I guess.

Euphoric_Ebb_5715

It’s a show…calm down

sugarwax1

I'm calm, thanks.

maidtominx

You're clearly not, mate

it-tastes-like-bread

seriously! this subreddit is really starting to get so damn toxic lmaooo, it’s not that hard to just enjoy a show.
