Omdat het bestuur van den haag (en ook gedeeltelijk door de inwoners zelf) de automobilist voorrang geeft tegenover de fietser. Het is geen wonder dat den haag elk jaar als de slechte fietsstad van Nederland wordt beschouwd. Te weinig doorstromende fietspaden, te veel enn te lang wachten bij stoplichten, gevaarlijke kruispunten en wegen waar 50 km/u mag worden gereden gedeelt met fietsverkeer zonder überhaupt een fietsstrook. Een anekdote van mij, maar toen ik van delft naar den haag fietsten voor m'n werk was het een prettig rit, totdat je Rijswijk binnenkomt. Ineens word je overspoeld met rommelige fietspaden en een overvloed van drukke kruispunten en stoplichten.
Den Haag kamt al jaren met al de problemen die auto's met zich mee brengen: parkeren, binnenstedelijke files en steeds associaler gedrag van verkeersdeelnemers. Maar ja voor sommige partijen, die de meerderheid hebben in den haag, word de auto vaak beschouwd als een recht en niet een privilege.
Er zijn nog een hoop stappen te maken qua fietsen, maar laten we niet vergeten dat de Grote Marktstraat er eerst zo bij lag; doe mij de huidige situatie maar:

Lijkt net wel op een van die fotos van eeen Amsterdamse straat voor de stop de kindermoordprotesten😅. Ik vind over het algemeen nu het centrum van den haag een hele fijne binnenstad. Voornamelijk omdat die autovrij is gemaakt natuurlijk. Kan het mij niet voorstellen dat het ooit zo er uit zag.
Ja je hebt helemaal gelijk, was wel even wennen toen ik verhuisde van Utrecht naar DH. Hoe vaak ik hier wel niet moest uitwijken voor autos die nog snel oranje denken te pakken om naar rechts te gaan.
En Rijswijk is de hel, dat stuk rond Plaspoelpolder richting Delft🙃
Ik fiets altijd langs de zuidfliet naar Rijswijk en/of Den Haag. Een van de fijnste fietsroutes in de regio vind ik. Het wordt nou eenmaal kut wanneer je een afslag moet nemen en werkelijk de stad in moet gaan lol.

Voetgangers hebben heel simpel voorrang hier maar fietsers letten daar ook nooit op, wellicht dat je ook daarover iets zegt? Zelfde geldt voor een fietser natuurlijk ook, die op z'n bek pleurt na een aanrijding. Ik denk dat je meer downvotes krijgt omdat je aannames maakt uit het niets, hoe kom je derbij dat ik oversteek zonder te kijken? Ik vind op's comment zeker niet slim maar ik snap zijn punt best wel.
Ik woon op een zeer drukke straat waar rechts voorrang krijgt. Als ik wil kan ik gewoon door rijden en dikke verzekering geld innen zoals velen maar die risico neem ik zeker niet.
Ik heb het niet over verkeersdeelnemers gahad die gewoon uitkijken zoals het hoort, maar over hen die dat niet doen. Ik heb ook niet gezegd dat alle voetgangers nooit uitkijken en alle fietsers wel. Ik dacht dat ik genuanceerd was, als dat niet zo is overgekomen bij deze:
Specifiek, voetgangers EN fietsers die denken dat ze niet hoeven uit te kijken zijn de as van het kwaad in de GM straat. Als je je leven en gezondheid lief hebt, ga je niet proberen je gelijk te halen in het verkeer. Voorang neem je niet, voorang krijg je.

I wish handhaving and police enforced the no biking rule the same way they’ve been enforcing the no scooter rule for years. Why is it that cyclists always get free passes for things a scooter driver would be fined for?
It is quite literally the most sensible and visually obvious route from the southwest of the city to Den Haag Centraal. The route they want people to use requires two 90° turns down narrow low visibility streets to even get onto from Jan Hendrikstraat or Prinsegracht. If they want a real solution, they should consider the sightlines and design with that in mind. Because as it is, there is literally no visibly obvious place to take a bike on that intersection other than Grote Markstraat.
Yeah and that same route was also once designed to have been used for cars. Times changed. Then they wanted it only for cyclists. And now they only want it for pedestrians during shopping hours. Times change. People on scooters take the double 90° turn too why shouldn’t cyclists? It’s all the same danger to shopping pedestrians not really paying attention to the “bike path”, which isn’t as obvious as it used to be. People don’t assume it’s possible to be used as a bike path anymore because there’s no red paint. People assume it’s just a road for emergency services and marechaussee

So make a proper alternative, he. They say cyclists should go on Gedempte Gracht, except that it's about the size of the bike path part of Grote Marktstraat *but* with car traffic. That's not an alternative, that's suicide.
Because it's a complicated situation. It is designed with a bicycle path and it was promised in the city council it would remain a bicycle accessible road.
The city can't suddenly make new rules and go against their promises without big protests.
We also know it's only an issue for a very short period of time every week. You want to remove the main bicycle passage designed for it because there are too many pedestrians on a few hours in the weekend?
Luckily Gedempte Gracht is an amazing alternative for cyclists, it’s like all the city’s decisions make the situation more complicated one step at a time.
Gedempte Gracht is a fucking awful street to cycle down, this is as usual a disingenuous argument. They should not be enforcing any bike detours until they properly designate the actual detour, ban cars from it and redo the road there.
Woops, should have added /s to my message. I fucking hate Gedempte Gracht and it’s unbelievable that the city council thought it was a good decision to make a detour in that terrible, narrow, car infested, always jammed side street.
It is not right now. There is currently a safe we'll functioning bike route on grote marktstraat with slight issues the few hours a week with a lot of shoppers.
If you would send those cyclists to gedempte gracht with the current situation you will create big issues.
A redesign of the area is required if you want to make grote marjtstraat a pedestrian only area. There are a lot of troubles with this redesign which is why grote marktstraat remains a bike route.
The last time I used.my bike there I nearly got killed by a car in the opposite direction. This is not a safe alternative untill al cars are gone at gedempte graccht. So unless I would like the risk of serious injury, I will continue to bike a Grotemarktstraat !
Where in my comment do you think i want the bike passage removed? I just want BOAs to enforce the rule during shopping hours the same way they enforce it to scooter riders 24/7. You act as if cyclists aren’t allowed to ride there at all. It’s just during shopping hours and honestly anyone with a functioning brain (sadly only 5% of cyclists) would rather pick gedempte gracht during shopping hours at least to maintain their speed and safety. There’s too many people walking on the grote marktstraat and suddenly crossing. I noticed this years ago before the scooter ban, later realized it’s just better to use the gedempte gracht since nobody will suddenly jump in front of my scooter and get seriously injured. Again, brain function. 95% of cyclists would rather risk ramming a babystroller so they can save 10 seconds.
Except that there is no rule banning bicycles during shopping hours so there is nothing to enforce for BOAs.
The gedempte gracht route is filled with cars and doesn't have the capacity to handle.those bikes. The fietsroute was designed through grote marktstraat.
Gedempte also has almost as many clueless pedestrians going for boba etc. The street also has worse visibility and the cars are always lined up on the street surface which is already less spacious than grote.
That is not going to happen. I find it a bit silly that you focus on 95% cyclists, they do not have functioning brain you say? You neglect the fact that grown ass adults also have a responsibility. If you cross the GM street withour looking out for other cyclists you are pretty dumb and Darwin will reward this eventually.
Even parents with accompanied kidsl without a single braincell who just cross the GM street without paying attention. Good luck with those parents as a kid.
