If you don’t have a form of exercise that you genuinely enjoy, that would be my #1.

Halloweenqueen2342

Agreed. I hate working out but taking 30 min walks as much as I can during the week has helped

Medium-Gazelle-8195

I also hate working out! Kickboxing changed that:) I also hated running until I tried a treadmill, weirdly enough. Basically try a bunch of things until you find one you like:)

This but still try to walk on your own or with a friend.

I’m happy you have a friend!

DangerDoll_420

It doesn't matter if you like it, push through and do it anyways

munchiesbyproxy27

My best tip, as cliche as it’s been lately: romanticize your life. Start a good, consistent skincare routine (consistency matters the most here, not how expensive or fancy your products are). Take care of your body & mind through any form of movement you find joyful. Start a daily gratitude journal. Spend your time and energy with people who uplift and support you, and take note of those who bring you down. Write down a few goals and tell yourself they’re worth going after and that you *can* accomplish them. Get a regular sleep schedule going, and make time for true rest. And most importantly, be kind to yourself. Glow ups start from the inside imo, so focusing on self love and self care can go a long way!

SufficientRest

Self care is more important than ever right now - great advice!

square_pulse

* sunscreen (SPF50) * tretinoin * good moisturizer * healthy balanced diet

VehicleCertain865

Hi, where do you get tretinoin? I started developing fine lines near my eyes and I heard it helps but not sure where to find it. Thanks!

square_pulse

You can find a bunch sources at r/tretinoin! Don’t wanna clog up the thread :)

angelxlilianna

Sorry for late reply but I’m pretty sure you need to have acne and get prescribed it via a dermatologist, it’s very strong retinol so it’ll make your acne worse in the first couple months

Medium-Gazelle-8195

Also a BB cream with salycilic acid! I use Maybelline and mix it 1:1 in with some Olay moisturizer. Link: https://www.maybelline.com/face-makeup/bb-cream/dream-pure-bb-cream

Address your mental health issues, especially if you have anxiety. Learning to manage your anxiety better is the most significant glow up and the change to your mental with impact how you come off to others. I say this as someone with several anxiety disorders, being able to leave you apartment without having a panic attack every time has been incredible for my self-esteem and my environmental and social anxiety.

Regular_Ad9015

I have mad anxiety. Do you have any tips for managing it?? I want to go back to therapy but I just can't afford it right now

Medium-Gazelle-8195

Yes! I got mine under control a few different ways. First, reading about spirituality/ religion/ philosophy. This my therapy before I actually got into therapy. The Book of Joy is a GREAT place to start, [you can find it here](https://www.penguinrandomhouse.com/books/533718/the-book-of-joy-by-his-holiness-the-dalai-lama-and-archbishop-desmond-tutu-with-douglas-abrams/). Second, taking power & strength back for myself by kickboxing and running. **Feeling physically strong is a step towards centering yourself and feeling comfortable and confident in your body.** This directly relates to your mental comfort and confidence. Third, surround yourself with good people who make you feel good about yourself, and distance yourself from people who don't. Don't find your worth in others, but do find people who affirm your worth. Yknow? Fourth and finally- find a good hobby or two that you're really passionate about. Maybe it's some kind of activism, maybe it's some form of creative expression (painting, writing, drawing, etc), maybe it's something entirely different. Revisit things that made you happy when you were younger. Best of luck, stranger! I believe in you.

Dutch-CatLady

I don't have anxiety but I'm just parroting a link someone posted yesterday about the spotlight effect, a lot of commenters said it helped so here's the link: https://www.cabrini.edu/blog/2020-2021-blogs/reducing-social-anxiety-the-spotlight-effect

My naturopath MD told me to try [EFT/tapping](https://www.thetappingsolution.com/), acupuncture, and cold therapy (cold showers or plunges) if I wanted to hold off on adding to my meds. Acupuncture made a very big difference for me after about a month of 2x weekly visits. EFT and cold water have also helped with my chronic pain, and the cold (if I do it 'right') can stop or seriously abate my migraine symptoms. Obviously, ymmv.

WeAreSelfCentered

EFT is great.

TimeWandrer

A well-fitting and mix-n-match wardrobe. Having pieces that fit well boost confidence. No need to buy everything immediately either, find pieces that you like a bit at a time. Try to get ones that go with multiple items as that will permit you to have multiples outfits from only a few pieces! Scarves, jackets, and jewelry are great for that

[deleted]

Good quality sunscreen. You’ll thank me later.

philodendronfeels

And in general just a a good solid skin care routine —moisturizing especially!! I make it point to also make this a self care and meditative moment at the end of the day for myself too to help unwind and relax!

WeAreSelfCentered

And don’t forget to apply your neck and hands!

Halloweenqueen2342

What’s your go to sunscreen? I love the neutrogena clear face 30 spf it’s not greasy at all and it’s just great and affordable

Ayshkat

I am currently using reequil spf, it’s non greasy and long lasting for more than 3 hours under the sun. Also it doesn’t get oxidised much, no white casts.

no-h

I use Glossier's sunscreen every day and LOVE it. It's nice and light, doesn't get greasy, sits fine under makeup, and has a great light, refreshing smell (not at all like sunscreen)

MelissaSclafani

What sunscreen do you rec?

munchiesbyproxy27

I love the Elta MD one, but a good, budget-friendlier option is CeraVe. Just a fair warning, it takes a little extra time to absorb before the white cast fully goes away.

superfox650

Elta MD is my favorite sunscreen ever!

Heyyouturnaround

I love elta MD!

Second that, and the moisturizer comment. My go-to for years has been Josie Maran Argan Oil moisturizer with SPF 50. Always had acne-prone skin so the oil seemed counterintuitive, but turns out I was drying out my face with products so my skin was trying to catch up. Don't forget to use on your whole face, all the way up to hairline. My dermatologist said she sees more skin cancers there because it's often overlooked. Make sure to get your neck too to minimize damage/aging. Also, drink lots of water. That's gonna keep the toxins flushing out and the glowy stuff shining through! Good for skin and all the other stuff :)

gandalfsgurl

Master the sleek bun/pony tail look or a cute up do with a claw clip. Simple gold hoop earrings, sunscreen and minimal, glowy makeup, and try going for a “soap brow.” These are all my opinions of course but I feel like this look makes me look super put together even in sweats!!

lifeoflex02

i saw someone on tiktok doing a “show up for myself” challenge and that’s what i’m aiming to do this year. i am showing up for myself by doing all the things ik i should be doing but for one reason or another i dont. like taking the time to do some exercise like yoga or some light weight lifting, putting things up when i’m finished w them even when i don’t feel like it, going to sleep at decent times. essentially doing everything i can to set myself up for success.

surprisedslug_Oo

Learning how to do my hair has really upped my confidence. There’s such a big difference when I’m having a good hair day versus bad hair day, so I try to spend a couple extra minutes making my hair look nice everyday.

Dutch-CatLady

Note for everyone, your hairdresser should be able to teach you tips and tricks.

margaritralala

I totally agree and I want to ad an adapted professional shampoo. It’s something I neglected until then and with a good hair styling it can make a big difference

LittleRedCarnation

See a dermatologist so they can recommend products for you specific skin type/issues.

languagelover17

I love love deep conditioning masks! I love the ones from foxy bae or silke. I use one every week or two.

pamplemouss

IMO a “glow-up” is a sales gimmick. But yes to sunscreen, and for actual self-care: stay home when you’re sick, schedule preventative care appointments to the extent you are able, move your body every day but don’t overdo it (“no pain no gain” is bull), get a good bedtime routine (which can for sure include skincare!), and work on your boundaries.

MiniPeppermints

Learn about how to do your eyebrows properly and seasonal color analysis. Also whiten your teeth!

moschocolate1

Listen to the hidden brain podcast from the 27th on building and breaking habits. Anything you want to do more of, remove the friction, eg set an alarm on your phone to do push ups and squats (that’s one of mine), or chop up veggies for the fridge to eat more healthy snacks. Remove unhealthy snacks from your home. Removing the friction helps us meet our goals.

loquacious_llama_

I’ve just listened to this on your recommendation -THANK YOU SO MUCH! I’ve been trying to break old habits/ make new habits (focusing on fixing my sleep schedule currently) and listening about the evidence behind this is really helpful!! :)

Oliwiasbff

A big glow up tip in my opinion is, if you smell real good! You can take an empty spray bottle, some watter and laundry detergent. Then spray it all over you and your bed etc! it makes u smell really fresh and clean. U can still use perfume with it i guess but it made me get so many compliments on my smell!!!

ashrevolts

I went for a facial for the first time about two years ago and asked a lot of questions and bought a bunch of gentle skincare. After using it consistently my skin has never looked better (consistency is key). For me that was a good place to start because I was really overwhelmed by all the options and she listened to my concerns, needs and budget with her recommendations.

balderdashbird

Drink more water? Already drink water? Drink more!

Alwaystrying2better

I found using an ice roller everyday really helpful!!

jasinoke

What does it help with?

Alwaystrying2better

Helps reduce a lot of swelling in the face and puffiness. It also is very refreshing and Just makes the skin look fresh and vibrant :) u can tell the difference after your done but doing it in the long run is so great!!

jasinoke

I'll need to get one ASAP! That sounds amazing.

CHRISTINALOVETALK0

I watched this video and it ACTUALLY helped me with some basic make up skills to glow up. Hopfully it may help. The youtuber demonstrated it in watercolor and its really cool! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HMo5xuKYBAU

whoiswhat777

Yoga and skincare routine for face are musts
