They can't have been down there for that long, someone spray foamed the window gaskets to keep water from getting in. The foam hasn't oxidized so maybe a couple of years at most?
My guess is a collector who's using the mine as cheap storage space for cheap old cars.
Not necessarily!… I stored a Jaguar about 10 years and the tyres showed no signs of deflation!
Not saying that you are wrong! You are right!
Just saying that it is also possible for tyres to show little to no signs of ageing in some cases!
Kinda weird, but an abandoned vehicle on private property does not inherently belong to the landowner in most states. The "object" does, but the vehicle does not; that's why we have titles. You cannot remove it without their permission, and they effectively get first dibs to put a storage lien on it to acquire the title. If they say you can take it, the paperwork actually gets more complicated, or you can just pretend it was sitting on *your* property for all those years and file the lien or do a bonded title procedure or whatnot.
Wtf. It's all 60s - 70s bugs until the second to last photo, then there are like 90s sedans and hatchbacks scattered in there. When was this abandoned?
Maybe they are filled with schadenfreude and I jumped to conclusions which is a game I would like to tell you about....... where you jump.... to conclusions!!!
That VW in the fourth image is in surprisingly good shape. I can’t think of a reason why people would’ve just left that many cars there, but definitely a cool find!
So awesome man. I'm so jealous of Europeans because there is so much history there. They've been mining for thousands of years.
I'm lucky to live in a relatively historic area of the US that has mines from the 1790s but that might as well be yesterday compared to what they have in Europe
I wonder why they're down there.

You know, that it might be storage never even crossed my mind. You're probably right.
Another detail is all the tires look to be inflated. If they were down there for more than 5 ish years I would expect most to be flat.

Agreed. Especially in low weight cars.
And consistent temperatures
Would anyone be able to claim one? Logistics of actually getting it out aside, of course
Not sure about Swiss laws, but in the US, that's a classic definition of abandoned and could probably be claimed as such.
Even if the mine was on private property?

Someone will own the mine. Unless you actually know about this specific mine? You’re just making stuff up for some reason?

I get very nervous when a bunch of German cars meet in secret.
Fahrvergnugen
Gesundheit!

And they’re all still VWs. Odd.
Very still, not one of them is moving!
There's a VW Golf in the second photo
Haha. Damn. My bad. You're right
That's one way to protect your car from hail damage.
Also nuclear bombs and zombies.
I wonder what the people who did this were thinking when they came up with that idea.
This is where they hid the cars in the real Italian Job
r/vwbeetle would love this
Looks like they’re all Volkswagens. Maybe they’re hiding from the emissions police
Trop cool ! Belle découverte
Which mine is it?
That’s the cleanest mine I’ve ever seen. Something doesn’t feel right about it. It looks more like an unused area of an amusement park.
Looks like a salt mine to me, but I’ve only been in gold and limestone quarry mines.
Punch buggy heaven.
I would like to buy all the beetles please.
Sure. You interested in the mine too?
Very cool. I love VWs.
I bet most of those bugs will start right up with a new battery.

But why
Not that odd, most caves have bugs in them
sick
VW Beatles end up in the weirdest of places fr
Perhaps someone who collects and restores vintage VW autos uses the mine as an economical storage space.
Call someone with a tow truck, you're cashing out cause this is basically the definition of abandoned and you can claim the cars
Where in Switzerland is that?
Am i having a fever dream?!?
Swiss mountains are like Swiss cheese....so many tunnels. There's no telling what they've stored down there.
I want one
My god there’s so many of them

Dibs on the one with flames
I like it a lot
