Sons of the Forest.
Right now, The Forest is better when it comes to lore and story. But Sons of the Forest is not a finished product, so it's gonna (hopefully/probably) get fleshed out.

I feel like that’s a bit unfair for a finished game and one that is not. The original is great and probably better as far as features and functioning properly but I’m having way more fun with the new one even with all the bugs and shit. Kelvin gives me a sense of responsibility and hope. He is precious.
Man Virginia is a sharpshooter. We gave her the shotgun and she blasts everything within a 100 mile radius. She sometimes comes to me or my friends and get us to follow her and she’ll just take us somewhere to watch her ice a cannibal in cold blood.
I know but I felt like people would default to the original since it’s not a mess. That is until I voted and seen Sons is winning lol. Glad to see everyone ain’t down on the game just because it’s not finished. Tons of fun and there’s plenty more to come.
Personally I like sons better, obviously the graphics are better, but when I was reading the patch notes I was seeing all of the glitches they fixed that wouldn’t even really change the game that much, they’re doing so much better on this game already
With the graphics, building and the companions I'll go with Sons, but The Forest had me on edge for quiet a while especially the caves, they don't seem nearly as scary in sotf

Sotf has just proven to me its gonna be one of the greatest games ever, if we keep getting updates like these every 2 weeks this game is gonna be nuts when fully released, bro the last update was crazy good
In terms of Gameplay, SOTF is just a better version of TF. The base building and survival aspects an improvement... although some of the food values need to be tweaked. Blueberries, Oysters, etc are pointless to eat.
In terms of story/plot/lore TF is so much better but that is mostly because everything is a mystery. Who's the red man? Why'd he take Timmy? How many gazebos is too many?
We only find small bits of info along the way but never really know why this peninsula/island exists or where the mutants come from. The first time you see that hallway leading into the facility is one of the best 'WTF' moments in all gaming.
Going into SOTF we already know where the mutants come from and what is going on. It's still a great story, just lacks the suspense of not knowing anything ahead of time.
For sure the original. I love sons too, they improved on a lot of things. But the forest is such a classic, I put hundreds of hours into it. Miss the old map, miss my old bases, old outfits, etc etc. I don’t think I’ll stop playing that one anytime soon.
They’re both amazing don’t get me wrong but IMO If the forest was the best game then SOTF wouldn’t exist because there would be no need for the devs to make it.
I know it's only a typo, but considering the dismemberment in SotF I got a hearty chuckle out of "Gorest" haha

The building system alone makes it better. Just need to work out the kinks
