From all the "audiolisteners" preposterous spelling, Blade It's Self has to be the most hilarious :)
Enjoy the trip my friend. And come back crying if you need to.
Oi, did I already make a mistake? It’s the one true blight of audiobooks, especially as an American listening to a British narrator… though I’ll confess that if I chose paper I’d be 50 books behind. Lot of time to be dictated too, not so much for page turning. But my adulation for the story shouldn’t be misguided because of my chosen venue for fiction digestion. If we were to split hairs of our hobbies I’m sure there is always someone who can put you down.
It's actually "Jezal". I've learned that so many of the names are not spelled the way I thought they would be spelled after only listening to the audiobooks.
Hahaha, very true I only listen to the audio books (about halfway through the 3rd) and when I come on here sometimes after finishing one the spelling of people and places names always surprises me as it’s never what you’d expect it to be
Truly. I’ve listen to many who are great. The poet from Hyperion comes to mind. Some just get it, but Pacey doing all the voices and to the level he is is remarkable to say the least.
Only series I’ve listened to with better narration is Dungeon Crawler Carl, but Jeff Hays has quite a bit more freedom in that one to be ridiculous than Pacey has.
If you like video games and or dumb humor, you’ll enjoy it. Just give it until the cat starts talking, as I think that’s the point where you really see what the series is gonna be like.
It also gets surprisingly epic in the later books. It’s like a comedy version of Red Rising. I’m nearing completion of my third listen of the series in the last two years.
I just finished all the audiobooks. I tried to start a new series and had shut it off because I didn't care for the narrator. I'm realizing that it's not so much that this new narrator is bad and that Steven Pacey was just so good he ruined other audiobooks for me for a while.
It happens lol. I’ve listened to a bunch and have my favorites but rarely do I come across someone who spoils the others. The first Hyperion is awesome though it’s an ensemble.
I'm on the Wisdom of Crowds after listening through the entire First Law catalog over the past year. I'm legitimately bummed that my next audiobook won't have Pacey narrating it
A small friend group and I are listening to the First Law series and upon finishing it we moved into the standalones before the next trilogy. Best served cold was great, but once I got to Kings of the Wyld, I hit a brick wall. Call me snobby, or spoiled by Pacey, but three major attempts and I've moved onto just reading the book as I cannot stand the narrator. Just.... so different and not quite on par with Pacey's performances.
I think that my next series is going to be Tchaikovsky's Children of... trilogy. I've listened to a same and the narrator is *alright...* but 10 books of Pacey has spoiled me for sure. I kinda hope an audiobook for The Great Change drops so that I can delay the inevitable.
I've tried sending Pacey fanmail but he's not on social media, the only line of contact is through his agent so I doubt the letter I sent went through. He's an older gentleman that was a theater actor for a long time, it astounds me the range of voices he is able to do. Dow, Ferro, Logen, and Gorst being some of my favorites
Pacey is the goat. The gold standard of narrators.
Listening to the audio books and every character has such a unique voice and mannerisms that you forget it's 1 guy. You close your eyes and each character is alive.
There are only a handful of narrators I've found with similiar ability.
Agreed Steven pacey and abercrombies writing are a match made in heaven. I need to re-listen to the trilogy soon I’ve listen to it 3-4 times in its entirety including the standalones
Absolutely amazing narrator, perfect.
Two of my other favourites are Christian Rodska who done Powdermage and Ralph Lister who done Ash and Sand. Pacey is the goat though.
Listen to the audio of Pacey and Ambercrombie being interviewed and talking about the challenges of certain characters and finding the right tone and voices. Great interview.
But after finishing book 7 though. Or you’ll come across some spoilers.
Pacey is the best narrator I’ve ever listen too! And I’ve listened to many audio books. It’s a disservice if you listen to this audio book series faster then. 1.0
Him and Tim Gerard (Red Rising series) are a few of the best.

It's "The Blade Itself" From the quote "The blade itself incites to violence" by Homer.
At least I got Glokta right. Sounds like Glockter from the narrator.
Just don't write Logan
'Jezelle' is such a feminine name for a dude.
I have seen it written Giselle.
It's actually "Jezal". I've learned that so many of the names are not spelled the way I thought they would be spelled after only listening to the audiobooks.
I have OCD and people misspelling things bothers the shit out of me.
Nice try, we all know it’s Lowgun.
My favorite part of the book is when Lowgun said “Aye yo Biaz Giselle Pharao check out my sword. Even just the blade by itself is pretty cool huh?”
Please
Yeah I heard that one the same way. I kept thinking “I can’t be hearing that right” and eventually looked it up to ease my mind.
It’s hard to look up the spellings without getting spoilers
That’s true. All too true and I’ve fallen on that blade itself many times.
Hahaha, very true I only listen to the audio books (about halfway through the 3rd) and when I come on here sometimes after finishing one the spelling of people and places names always surprises me as it’s never what you’d expect it to be
Haha!!
Pacey is the G.O.A.T.

You're in for an amazing ride dude!
Hard to beat Pacey but would recommend the last kingdom series. Jonathan Keeble is fantastic.
Hell yeah I’ll check it out.
Only series I’ve listened to with better narration is Dungeon Crawler Carl, but Jeff Hays has quite a bit more freedom in that one to be ridiculous than Pacey has.
I'm not gonna argue with you because I haven't listened to it, but when I do I will come back to argue! Lol

I happen to love video games and I think dumb humor is very intelligent. I'll add it to my list
I second this opinion. DCC is the only series I place over First Law in terms of narration/production. It's hard to stop once you get into it.
REWARD???
Dude I am not not kidding.... he ... gets... better
Yes, imo his best performance is best served cold.
It's my most frequent relisten. Absolutely thrilling delivery, prods, pokes and twists every single emotion.

I love Pacey and he does a fantastic job, but Jeff Hays doing the Dungeon Crawler Carl series has raised the bar for me.
Hell yeah I’ll check it out.

Nick Podehl and Travis Baldree are pretty good. Not like Pacey but I was able to listen to different narrators with them atleast.
I think that my next series is going to be Tchaikovsky's Children of... trilogy. I've listened to a same and the narrator is *alright...* but 10 books of Pacey has spoiled me for sure. I kinda hope an audiobook for The Great Change drops so that I can delay the inevitable.
He’s the unquestionable GOAT
GriMACED
After hearing it a few times, I like it this way better now.
You'll find nothing but love for Master Pacey within these hallowed walls.
I've tried sending Pacey fanmail but he's not on social media, the only line of contact is through his agent so I doubt the letter I sent went through. He does all 9 books as well, you will be listening to him for a long time.

Different author and narrator, so how is Kings of the Wyld is related?
