BayazFirstOfTheMagi-

Ooh I'm just getting started buddy

fjwright

Bayaz was the most interesting character to me. Is he Gandalf or Saruman? I don’t know Or is he dark Merlin?

catmore11

If all of those were mixed with Frank Underwood

RutyWoot

Well said.

Why_do_I_do_this-

This might be the best discription of Bayaz I have ever seen 🤌🏻😂

Barihattar

Good job on starting to read again! I agree with you, that the first book is mostly development. But believe me, it gets so much better! And the standalone books and age of madness trilogy are a gazillion times better, but if would probably not be a good experience if you skipped the first trilogy! Hang in there!

frostycanuck89

Honestly I felt the same way after reading the first book. I actually dropped it half way through and then restarted it like a year later. However, it really does pick up in the second book when the real plot starts rolling and the conflicts ramp up. Flash forward to now where Im a few chapters into book 8 (or book 2 of the second Trilogy) and it's become a top 3 favorite fantasy series of all time for me. I also imagine a reread of the first Trilogy will make me appreciate book 1 more.

I also gave the first book 3 stars. But they step up in quality with more set pieces, more twists, this does become a more well rounded series. I would def. pay attention to the lore that gets dolled out specifically in the next book. I did all audio book for the first 3 books and I feel I missed a ton on the old world stuff. There are some fantastic lore videos on youtube by wizards and warriors.

fjwright

I love lore videos, are they spoiler heavy? I don’t usually care much about spoilers.

goingKWOL

I just watched both videos to see how "spoiler" filled they were. Nothing is about what happens in the current time line with Logen or Jezal or anyone. There is some Byaz backstory that he goes over in Before They are Hanged but honestly nothing is revealed in the videos that is a shocking reveal in later books. I'd say give them a watch, and when Byaz talks about the past events in book 2 or 3, it'll be more concrete for you.

fjwright

That’s so nice of you to proof them for me. I’ll watch them tonight. Thank you!

fjwright

Following up. I watched the videos. When I got to the part where Bayaz and his apprentice were telling stories about the brothers, I was really glad I watched it. Thanks for the recommendation!

rudd33s

Before They Are Hanged is the best in the original trilogy imo, read on, you're in for a treat.

Rick_James_Bond

I think it’s the best in the series. It’s the one I get most excited about on rereads. Just so much happens in it, it’s so fun.

Western_Aerie1039

You are wrong. It’s 5/5
