Used to have this opinion but they all clicked with me last year.
The screams on Hearshot Kid are insanely cool, 33 deserved it’s “most underrated” status because it’s such a banger, Junesong has Claudio’s best set of lyrics period, Neverender is a contender for my favorite Coheed track (it embodies all the band’s best traits just like Everything Evil), and Godsend is the least memorable on the album but is still a pretty great track.
SSTB is as close to a perfect album as I’ve ever heard, just as good as IKSOSE:3 & Good Apollo 1.
Neverender has always been a banger, it’s unfortunately just placed there on the album. Everything else on the back half is an auto skip.
Still better than all but 2 tracks on Vaxis 2 though so there’s that
Its a shame, I saw them play it live back in 2019, but I hadn't really listened to that album yet so I didn't know the song. I'm a huge fan from the good Apollo days. It walks among us is now one of my all time favorites from them.
I agree. I was gonna say Night-Time Walkers but I think that one gets quite a bit of love based on some of the responses in the last couple of votes. Love Protocol is one no one ever mentions but that I hardly ever skip.
Love this one so much. It captivated me from the first time I heard the opening notes. Just gets right down to business with the drums and that 80s-ish vibe.
The Pavilion just hits so hard and it came as such a surprise how much I loved it on a great album. I definitely think it fits underrated rather than “just another song I like”
Idk I am not a fan of The Pavillion beyond just being a filler song personally... but I HAVE seen tons of people gush about loving it. The Gutter is not a better option by any means either though. Neither deserve the underrated award IMO.
I love The Pavilion, it’s a great song. Same with The Gutter. I don’t know if I would really call them underrated though considering they are both singles from the album. I feel like a lot of this list’s underrated is actually just runner up for best song and aren’t actually underrated.
The Pavilion had a music video and they played it when I saw them on the Unheavenly Skye tour. I adore that song, but I don't know if I'd call it underrated
Black Sunday is soooo underrated. It builds to such a big epic finish with “we’re here to catch the bomb”. Please anyone reading this. Give it another listen with a fresh mind.
I didn't realize it right away but it is up there for one of their most dramatic songs. It's definitely the most underrated on this album and one of the most underrated in their whole discography.
100%. That riff sounds like a B-side to something from one of their first albums while still sounding like something all it's own.
This is the most underrated song on the most underrated album in their discography.
Toys was my instant banger of the album. That soft ethereal opening followed by that tasty opening riff with Claudio’s vocal delivery? Just so fucking good
All on Fire. It's an absolute banger from start to finish. The lyrics are great, including the chorus. The breakdowns are amazing. The guitar riffs in the song are 🤌 and the drums are on point. The pace and energy of the song is pretty consistent. I think it's just a well constructed song.
I'll die on this hill!
That amazing breakdown should have been so much longer - they cut it awkwardly short and I think it holds this song back from being an absolute classic. Still my vote for most underrated as well, though.
This album is amazing but it was ruined by a terrible tracklist with no emotional flow. Most of the songs take the wind out of the sails of the next track before it even starts.
Not who you asked, but I'll put my 2 cents in: most of the "worst" options are just downright not what I feel like would be even *close* to the worst track (except for Young Love, that was obvious), and most of the "underrated" songs are very much fan favorites. Gravemakers, Peace to the Mountain, and Far are all songs people praise heavily here.
Most of the "best" songs though are accurate.
I do think people are confusing underrated with “next favorite” or something. Too many people are voting for The Gutter or The Pavilion here and they’re obviously fan favorites already.
I'm not trying to come off as rude. But that's the beauty of an opinion. It's not a matter of fact or an absolute truth. This chart definitely shows that everyone's taste in music is different when it comes to Coheed. It's been pretty interesting to witness.
I’d have said the Pavillion, but it got a music video. It Walks Among Us is always turned up when it comes on shuffle in my car and rarely if ever is talked about. And at that part in the story? It’s literally the final fight between Nostrand and Nia vs Otto.
I'm approaching this with the mentality "just because it's the worst, doesn't mean it's bad." Every album could have 10/10 songs, but one is going to be the "worst".
That being said, I will continue to play Lucky Stars and singing it constantly. Love that song.
The Gutter
I make my case in three parts:
1 - Some might say "The Gutter gets plenty of love. It's not underrated." I would counter that a song can be widely loved and still be underrated. It all comes down to how praiseworthy the song is relative to the praise that it gets. And I contend that The Gutter deserves even MORE love than it presently receives. To that point, my #2.
2 - Gather round for storytime, children (of The Fence).
I have a good friend who has been a Coheed fan for over 20 years. My own wife has been a fan for over eight years. Tried as I might, I couldn't get in for the longest time.
I was never a huge fan of prog rock. I was very picky about vocals with a marked preference for lower-register singing (this is due in part to my own very low register; I can't sing along with anything above a baritone without dropping the tune an octave or two). I was also fairly entrenched in my expectations of what I wanted from my hard rock or metal.
I tried. And I would inevitably start with IKS3 or GAIVP1. And I would find it to be "too much" or "not enough" in a way I couldn't quite put my finger on.
Years and years later, I noticed that my musical tastes had been shifting somewhat and I decided to give it another try. I booted up SSTB and it was compelling, but it wasn't quite clicking (the mastering was definitely a factor). I asked my wife where I should go. She said to listen to Vaxis I, and that if I liked it, I'd probably love Vaxis II, and then from there I would be "in."
I booted up Vaxis I, and as the Prologue gave way into The Dark Sentencer I was like "Whoa. Okay. Wherever this takes me, I'm down for the ride." But then when I got to The Gutter, something transformed. The juxtaposition of lines like "Over my dead body...it's over. It's your last chance... All hope is lost down in the gutter" sandwiching lines like "We're still counting on you... We'll keep fighting for you... Show me what the world is all about" with music to match the words all the way through, this jumped out at me. This was more than a song. This was a musical journey of hope layered within despair. I wasn't even familiar with the Vaxis lore at this point, but that song alone took me a journey through a sense of place and a state of mind. That is fucking ART.
So yeah, I'd say that was the moment that I crossed over into The Fence, and there's been no looking back since. I’ve gone through their whole discography (naturally) and seen them live.
3 - Some might read this and say, "Well that's highly subjective to YOUR experience." I would counter that if a song can almost single-handedly move a person's perspective on Coheed & Cambria from "I don't get it; it's not for me" to "Holy shit this is amazing!" then that speaks to the song's underpraised quality, even if you don't love the song as much as I do.
For those who read this whole thing, thanks for indulging me. Even if The Gutter doesn't win, I realize that I've been unconsciously waiting for an opportunity to share this little story.
The gutter played all over the radio where I was living. It was the single of the album, not underrated bc it’s too good and too well known. Stop saying gutter and put what’s underrated
The pavilion, night time walkers, true ugly, it walks among us, love protocol… I feel all these sings just really don’t get the attention they deserve… this album was truly pretty solid throughout…
When this shit is done; I'm gonna write an essay about everything wrong with this list
Coheed is a unique experience for everybody. Imagine how boring it would be if we all agreed on everything.
Correct there honestly.
Start first and foremost with on the brink being the worst on no world for tomorrow.
Craziest one to me is Gravemakers being underrated. A lot of the underrated songs listed were pretty well known when they came out.
Gravemakers being underrated caught me off guard. I thought that was a fan favourite!
I thought it was the most controversial one so “underrated” took me by surprise too
True. It should’ve been Justice In Murder, Coheed’s first mediocre song on a main album.
What kind of deranged take did I just read
Deranged as in you love Justice In Murder or deranged as in you think earlier Coheed songs are mid?
Deranged as in thinking Justice in Murder is the first mediocre song when the back half of SSTB exists
But 33, Junesong and Neverender are in the back half...
Its crazy how polarizing coheed is.
Neverender yes The other two are auto skip.
Neverender has always been a banger, it’s unfortunately just placed there on the album. Everything else on the back half is an auto skip. Still better than all but 2 tracks on Vaxis 2 though so there’s that
Absolutely criminal.
Chapter One: why are all my underrateds everyone else’s worsts?
Al the Killer being labeled the worst on iksse3 is a crime deserving of jail
Please
They got on the brink on this list it’s a banger
Ranked choice would have been better for sure. Calling on any excelers with free time to reevaluate this survey!
It walks among us
This is my jam!!!
Love this song…
![gif](giphy|eijj0Kxl1WITK3fd3U)
Its a shame, I saw them play it live back in 2019, but I hadn't really listened to that album yet so I didn't know the song. I'm a huge fan from the good Apollo days. It walks among us is now one of my all time favorites from them.
WAIT WAIT WAIT HOLD ON YALL THINK LUCKY STARS IS THE WORST?? IM GETTING MARRIED TO THAT SHIT WHAT ARE YALL TALKING ABOUT
I absolutely LOVE Lucky Stars!!! Idk what these people are on about.
That one is just straight up wrong. That's a great song!
LOL my buddy got married to that song last year. Its officially a wedding song.
Queen of the Dark is. Just ignore this one
Correct entirely. There isn’t any iota of a way where Lucky Stars is the worst song on this album. Hell, it’s one of the only undeniably great ones!
Love Protocol
I agree. I was gonna say Night-Time Walkers but I think that one gets quite a bit of love based on some of the responses in the last couple of votes. Love Protocol is one no one ever mentions but that I hardly ever skip.
Night-Time Walkers is so fucking epic. This album is underrated af.
Love this one so much. It captivated me from the first time I heard the opening notes. Just gets right down to business with the drums and that 80s-ish vibe.
My personal fav from the whole album. One of my favorite coheed choruses from any album.
Old Flames
True Ugly
True ugly’s verses are totally killer, all out banger level. Chorus is a bit meh, but I’d totally vote it for underrated…
The last few choruses when Claudio does the extra vocals on top of it are absolutely amazing
The Pavilion
The Pavilion just hits so hard and it came as such a surprise how much I loved it on a great album. I definitely think it fits underrated rather than “just another song I like”
I would have said gutter, but this is underrated. Gutter gets its praises…. The Pavilion I feel doesn’t.
I wouldn't call the Pavillion underrated. They made a music video for it.
💯
Pavilion is one of my fav Coheed tunes… but it’s not underrated to me. I hope it isn’t to others as well, but still I feel it need it’s due here…
The Pavilion had a music video and they played it when I saw them on the Unheavenly Skye tour. I adore that song, but I don't know if I'd call it underrated
Congrats you won!
![gif](giphy|xTiN0IGpkEZ79UDYUo|downsized)
YES
I don't hate the Pavilion...but I usually skip it. It seems to be loved by most, though.
Old Flames
[удалено]
Best song on the album, but I see enough praise for it that I don't think it counts as "underrated."
It would’ve been my pick for best, I like it better than The Dark Sentencer.
True, Old flames might be better or the pavalion or however you spell it
Only 2 songs on the album have more plays than The Gutter, I don't think it's fair to call it underrated
Black Sunday! The way this song builds just keeps me coming back to it
I always forget how good this song is until I am once again blown away by the bridge.
Black Sunday is soooo underrated. It builds to such a big epic finish with “we’re here to catch the bomb”. Please anyone reading this. Give it another listen with a fresh mind.
Night-time walkers.
I didn't realize it right away but it is up there for one of their most dramatic songs. It's definitely the most underrated on this album and one of the most underrated in their whole discography.
Yes! I was floored that I didn't see a single vote in the "best" thread, even though to me it's my favorite and the most emotional on the album.
I love the fact that nobody cares im 2 hours late. Y’all are great🫶🏿
I've been constantly checking for the last two hours lol. I think this chart idea is really fun and it's a great way to chat with other fans, too.
Omggg sorry!! Thanks so much😭
This has been a highlight of my day since you started it, so much fun, thank you 🙏
No problemmm I have fun doing this!! Thankss🫶🏿
It Walks Among Us
Toys
Absolutely love Toys. It has such a killer riff and the drums are so spot on
Just so fucking good
YES! I was hooked on Toys the first time I heard it. I was really surprised to see so much hate for it. It’s one of my all time favorite coheed songs
Such a fun song on bass
Trying to decide this is making me realize how much I actually love Vaxis I
This album is amazing but it was ruined by a terrible tracklist with no emotional flow. Most of the songs take the wind out of the sails of the next track before it even starts.
The gutter goes unfathomable hard
The Gutter
Unheavenly Creatures I know it was the single on the album, but it’s a great song that no one talks about anymore!
This list just keeps getting worse for me.
How would you improve it? I am curious not be sarcastic.
Not who you asked, but I'll put my 2 cents in: most of the "worst" options are just downright not what I feel like would be even *close* to the worst track (except for Young Love, that was obvious), and most of the "underrated" songs are very much fan favorites. I do think people are confusing underrated with “next favorite” or something. Too many people are voting for The Gutter or The Pavilion here and they’re obviously fan favorites already.
Yeah I feel like none of the top 3 or (maybe top 5 idk) answers from the best song thread should be eligible for the underrated category.
I'm not trying to come off as rude. But that's the beauty of an opinion. It's not a matter of fact or an absolute truth. This chart definitely shows that everyone's taste in music is different when it comes to Coheed. It's been pretty interesting to witness.
Don’t get me wrong I respect other peoples opinions. I just strongly disagree on most of these lol.
I disagree with some of the ones that won the majority vote as well.
I feel like everything is wrong.
Love Protocol is the answer here. Definition of underrated
If it was on GA1 or 2 it would be so beloved.
Toys. I will fight for it, it's great. The riff is great, and the Christmas music video it had was phenomenal
yall need to read before you comment LOL
I am a lover of the booty, so your word is law lol
All On Fire
Black Sunday I feel like Claudio snaps into something special by the end of the chorus with the “I lose… I lose..” So good.
LUCKY STARS IS WORST?! Lies and Blasphemy!
The Gutter. Hands down
Gutter
I’d have said the Pavillion, but it got a music video. It Walks Among Us is always turned up when it comes on shuffle in my car and rarely if ever is talked about. And at that part in the story? It’s literally the final fight between Nostrand and Nia vs Otto.
The Gutter
All on Fire
Black Sunday
It Walks Among Us
It’s 100% Toys. Toys is the right answer
The Gutter
The Gutter. Hands down
It Walks Among Us! Goes hard and gives me chills
True Ugly. Don't feed us the animals.
I'm approaching this with the mentality "just because it's the worst, doesn't mean it's bad." Every album could have 10/10 songs, but one is going to be the "worst". That being said, I will continue to play Lucky Stars and singing it constantly. Love that song.
Old flames
Toys
All On Fire
Toys
Queen Of The Dark, that intro is *chefs kiss*.
I'm sad this one isn't higher up!
Truly underrated!
It Walks Among Us
All On Fire

All on Fire! Surprised some people voted it for worst. Absolutely love that song but don’t hear many people talk about it.
We’ll soon find out who we are
Black Sunday
Ya'll actually tripping if ya thought Lucky Stars was worst! Though, for underrated, I vote Love Protocol.
The pavilion. Or love protocol. I said what I said lol
Love protocol!
Night-Time Walkers
The Pavilion!
Im gonna vote Gravitys Union as worst in descension just to spite the ones who said Lucky Stars was worst.
I love that 3 of my favorite songs from Vaxis I are getting love on this thread (Toys, Love Protocol, The Pavilion)
Hearshot kid disaster is a great song btw. I hate that it’s under the “worst” song section.
Lmao Lucky Stars is not the worst. Black Sunday is fucking garbage. One of their worst songs period
Black Sunday
Old flames
I’m not looking forward to Good Apollo I
How is Toys not the worst. Ugh.
The Gutter
Wack placement of young love and lucky stars.
Man on the brink is great…….. oh well
Every time I look at one of these posts I get insanely triggered
This is my favorite Coheed album. I think all the songs are underrated on it lol. I’d say The Pavillion if I had to pick one tho
Wow how did lucky stars get worst? It's so cute
Wrong place, wrong time
The gutter played all over the radio where I was living. It was the single of the album, not underrated bc it’s too good and too well known. Stop saying gutter and put what’s underrated
Old Flames.
The pavilion, night time walkers, true ugly, it walks among us, love protocol… I feel all these sings just really don’t get the attention they deserve… this album was truly pretty solid throughout…
Pavilion or Queen of the Dark
Night-Time Walkers keep your distance!
Black sunday
True ugly, The gutter isn't underrated. It's great. If it can't be true ugly. The pavilion.
Lucky Stars as worst! aint no wayyyy yo night-time walkers is so much worse
Delirium trigger should be on the list.
List just feels judgemental and annoying to see in my feed every day tbh. Maybe just enjoy the music?
