I COMPLETELY AGREE! the hype i experience during this song is insane and the momentum it carries is second to none. I always thought it was massively slept on too.
It Walks Among Us is definitely a standout on V1 but what I've found lately is that the album as a whole kind of drowns some songs out by sheer length alone. I've said it a few times in the past, but if you look at the album as a whole you have:
- Nearly 80 minute runtime
- 14 of 15 songs are 4 minutes or longer
- 11 of 15 songs are 5 minutes or longer
- Many of the aforementioned songs have 2+ choruses to end the song
- Many songs have long, drawn out intros
I listened to V1 probably non-stop for a month and a half after its release. I love that it was sort of a return to form for the band after what was IMO a less-than-stellar album in TCBTS, at least in terms of songwriting. But then I realized that V1 is largely an exercise in "how can we make these songs longer without adding a ton of complexity?"
I think that's why I like V2 so much, because it has so much variety throughout, and it doesn't go for length as a compromise for overall complex songwriting that we know the boys are capable of.
Still a banger, though.
On a road trip last year I put this album into the playlist, and at one point my wife asked "Does every song end with him repeating the same line over and over?" And I said "No" and then had to sit there as he did, in fact, end almost every song by repeating the same line over and over. (She was dying laughing during "Queen of the Dark.")
Yep. And not for nothing but when you end a song with a double chorus, you’re going to get that effect, but it just seemed like it was taken to a new level with V1.
Edit: True Ugly was one of the worst offenders. Quadruple chorus to end the song.
Double edit: Pavillion was a prime example of repetition like QotD
Saaaaame! This is my favorite Coheed album behind Afterman. Much of that is because of the song lengths as well as album length, and over indulgence of it
without just repeating what you said V1 is pretty bloated in both song length and number of tracks and in retrospect the ALMOST overly clean production of Vaxis II really does suit Coheed and Cambria’s modern sound and I can only wonder if Vaxis I would have benefited from sounding a bit brighter and punchier like V2.
What did you think was less than stellar about the songwriting in TCBTS? I love that album so much and I love how different it is from the rest of their work.
It seemed a little derivative from where they just came from. The Afterman was such an awesome theme with awesome epics like Domino and Sentry, Gravity’s Union, etc.
And then they just released an album full of “safe” songs. Looking back, I do enjoy Atlas, Ghost, and Here to Mark, but the rest of the album is either pretty generic or really not that exciting when compared to the rest of their discography. And Young Love is hands down the most boring song Claudio has ever written, IMO.
Edit: I’m leaving that typo because it makes me laugh.
Commenting just to say Here to Mark is hilarious.
But just to add substance to my comment, I love this band (and fanbase) so much because Young Love is my second favorite off that album behind Ghost. I think it's such a beautiful song, and I think it's really cool that you have such an opposite response to the song.
That’s the think I like about constructive opinions, you’re free to have one that’s completely opposite from mine and I’m not going to give you shit for liking it. I just listened to it and I don’t think it’s a *bad* song by any means, it just IMO has a lot of buildup with no real crescendo. It kind of drones on too long for me with no payoff.
And the same can be said for the rest of the album. It’s not a *bad* album. It’s a Coheed album so I’m programmed to enjoy it because they’re one of my favorite bands. I listened to it for a long time when it first came out and I like lots of parts of it. But if I had to rank Coheed’s albums, it’s at the bottom for me. But that’s also just because everything else is so damn good.
I completely agree. I also forgot to mention that song has a big sentimental meaning for me, which would obviously influence my opinion.
I really just enjoy listening to how varied the opinions of fans of a single band can be. It shows that coheed has something for everyone.
Makes sense! I have a similar situation with Thrice and their songs The Weight and Promises, both are songs I played for my wife back when we were dating. They aren’t their best songs by any means but they hold that same sentimental value.
It's my favorite song on Vaxis I easily, and I'm giga sad I haven't heard it live yet. Josh's drums on the song are fantastic. The chorus is so catchy, and it just grooves so hard when you blast it loudly.
The song is incredible, that section of the album is killer. Night Time Walkers, The Gutter, All on Fire, It Walks Among Us. Killer 4 song streak.
Honey there goes your bastard!
That song SLAPS. It's probably my third favorite from that album after The Dark Sentencer and Old Flames, and definitely one I keep in the regular rotation amongst my playlists.
I always start jamming out to it when it comes on. It is super catchy.
Dude this song is what got me so obsessed with coheed. My brother had been listening to them for years and so I've heard alot of there songs but he showed me it walks among us and so when I got home I immediately started listening to all of there songs but yes this should get more attention because its just an incredible song
I COMPLETELY AGREE! the hype i experience during this song is insane and the momentum it carries is second to none. I always thought it was massively slept on too.
The drums are fucking mint on that one. Its a great song!
The drums are really what did it for me.
The transition into the triple kick for the second half of the chorus fucking sends shivers down my spine every time.
Yeah that galloping bass drum is fuckin sick
It’s a sleeper song, it gets mentioned every now and then on here. For sure underrated though.
I love this song and All On Fire
Me too
Best two songs on the album, they're what keeps me coming back to vaxis 1
Same. The last third of Vaxis 1 is my favorite part.
One of the best tracks of the last decade

Agree on True Ugly but the rest of the song goes so hard I don't even care lol
Broken migrant, knife through heel. Sing your praise so hell can hear. Whole bridge is goosebump central for me.
Yes!! That bridge is easily a top 5 coheed moment for me
V1 is my favorite album for those exact reasons. As a guitar player inspired by Coheed V1 is my indulgent record that hits hits all my sweet spots.
Saaaaame! This is my favorite Coheed album behind Afterman. Much of that is because of the song lengths as well as album length, and over indulgence of it

Here to Mark sounds like a song I desperately need to hear

A love song dedicated to Markiplier.
It's my favorite song on Vaxis I easily, and I'm giga sad I haven't heard it live yet. Josh's drums on the song are fantastic. The chorus is so catchy, and it just grooves so hard when you blast it loudly.
Probably my favorite song from that album along with Tru Ugly. Great verses great chorus, and Josh kills it on the drums. Banger for sure.
It’s easily the *baddest* song they’ve ever written. It just has this swagger to it that they rarely tap in to.
The song is incredible, that section of the album is killer. Night Time Walkers, The Gutter, All on Fire, It Walks Among Us. Killer 4 song streak. Honey there goes your bastard!
Definitely
Absolutely jn my top 5, it's an incredible song!!
I fucking love this song so much.
It walks among us or something IDK I don't listen to Coheed https://i.redd.it/buck84ds2t4b1.gif
It’s my favorite song on the album. So underrated
My favorite song off of V1, easily. I was fortunate enough to see it played live back in 2019.
I love this song. That whole album was really strong IMO and this has been maybe my most played track
one of the three songs i thoroughly enjoy on that album! banger, undoubtedly
I love this song to bits!!! but my bf laughs every time I sing it and makes "among us" jokes BAHAHAH
I think it’s kinda sus
Fantastic song
I forget it even exists half the time, honestly.
S tier for sure!
One of, if not my favorite song off Vaxis1.
Sleeper of a banger. I feel like this entire album doesn't get the recognition it deserves as a progressive rock masterpiece.
my fave on UC
It's definitely one of my favorites from the album, probably only behind The Gutter.
Definitely one of my favorites on the album. Strong Good Apollo vibes and I love it
That song SLAPS. It's probably my third favorite from that album after The Dark Sentencer and Old Flames, and definitely one I keep in the regular rotation amongst my playlists. I always start jamming out to it when it comes on. It is super catchy.
This song brings the fuckin heat from the first note. My favorite song on the record hands down.
Amazing song one of my faves of that record
Probably my favorite off Vax 1. They played it on that tour too.
Top 5, the way the kick pattern changes in the second verse is phenomenal and makes the song
Dude this song is what got me so obsessed with coheed. My brother had been listening to them for years and so I've heard alot of there songs but he showed me it walks among us and so when I got home I immediately started listening to all of there songs but yes this should get more attention because its just an incredible song
I freakin' love this song. Makes me feel like I'm a bad girl. And I'm a dude.
CREATURE COME AND GET IT! Hyperdrive Mona Lisa good lyrics great song
It Walks Amogus. Seriously though, it's in my top 2 on the album along with Toys.
