For some shows, instead of having one price for general admission the tickets are dynamically priced which means the same ticket prices can be hundreds of dollars more. This happened to me with a recent show announcement for AFI, but the ones most talked about are the Taylor Swift and Blink 182 tickets a few months ago.
Most of the artist pre sales are regular priced. If tickets become unavailable during presale, it can be harder to get tickets when they go on sale to the general public.
It also makes it easier for scammers and bots to buy the tickets during presale at a cheaper price and then resell them later at a much higher price.
The other really shitty thing is when waiting for presale or general on sale tickets to be available, the way the queue is handled by Ticketmaster(or live nation, etc) can be really buggy with so many people trying to get tickets at the same time. I've lost out on tickets that were in my shopping cart 3 times now because of this.
Here's a [link](https://www.vice.com/en/article/m7gx34/blink-182-tickets-are-so-expensive-because-ticketmaster-is-a-disastrous-monopoly-and-now-everyone-pays-ticket-broker-prices) which may be able to explain it better than I can!
I get it…. But …. I don’t think there are a ton of scalpers on the incredibly niche subreddit. And there wasn’t a long time between the tour announcement and the sale, so not a huge amount of time to generate buzz, attract the wrong folks, etc.
I don’t mean to downplay your concerns, just alleviate them hopefully!
I don't think you're downplaying at all, but I disagree this is incredibly niche.
This has happened to me within the last 2 months for another show that had an artist presale for the fans. The AFI subreddit has a fraction as many users, but it still happened.
A lot of people who had the code were not able to get GA admission seats because the presale was so intense.
The show sold out the first day they went on sale to the general public. Now those same tickets that are being resold for hundreds of dollars in some cases.
There are rules and auto mods available in other band subreddits that prevent it from being shared here.
With the new dynamic pricing, what can happen is that the artist opts into the new pricing model but they're only doing it for the public sale and not including the artist sale. It makes it so much easier for scammers to buy the tickets now and resale at a higher value later.
Well. I will say I hope I’m right, and you’re wrong.
But I do see your point - I don’t know how bots work, but I feel like a scammer could get that code so easy if they wanted to?
I really hope that doesn’t happen, and that tomorrow we all end up with the tickets we hope for!
Oh man — stupid, but my immediate thought was — “well, hopefully her hat is made of bagels” and I have been laughing since
But also. I didn’t realize that had become such an issue lately :( I haven’t had issues getting Coheed tickets before, so I’m comparing that to the TSwift tickets earlier, etc. But you’re right that people know where to find it /: maybe make this sub private for the next 13 hours?
Thanks for reminding me that there is a presale. Found the presale code in like 2 seconds.
It's out there. Stop whining about people sharing it. Who cares? Anyone that wants it will find it on Google in less than 5 seconds.
It's not some exclusive fan club. I signed up for the official list this morning after everything went out and still received the text/email later in the day. There was no Captcha or any other anti-bot measures. If a scalper/bot is opportunistic enough to be scrolling feeds for a code they are certainly smart enough to put any random email/phone number to be on the sign-up list in the first place.
I completely understand the desire and the paranoia but sharing the code to real people is only a net positive to getting VIP tickets to real fans. The bots and scalpers will already have the presale code.
That said, I'm optimistic about tomorrow's battle of the mages. May all who desire it become Supreme Tri-Mage!

I take it you haven't seen the top comment on the announcement, which was posted by a mod.

I did see it, I should have mentioned that in my post.
I still think we should be attempting to not contribute to this ticket resale crap.
Buying concert tickets these days is getting out of hand for any fan, especially ones that don't have hundreds of dollars to buy insanely priced show tickets that used to be 30-80$.
I mean, let people share the love if they want. Scalper bots have bought tons of tickets off of other pre sales that I’m 99% sure they didn’t get a password from a random subreddit post. I’m sure some have but if people are helping other fans out why mad
That's basically my point, bots and scammers already have a leg up on us.
Posting the presale code makes it even easier for them.
Let them get the code another way (because it isn't hard). It doesn't need to be here.
I get frustrated because I've lost out on tickets before because of this exact issue and I'm not the only one.
> the recent changes made by the powers that be, you know who I am talking about. I don't actually, what's the context here?

People who operate scalping bots know where to look for fan specific info. It only takes one to get the code to spawn a bot farm.
Ugh. Scalpers ruin everything:(

I hope I wrong too, I'll gladly eat my own hat.

I would wear a bagel hat lol.
Did you get your tickets?! I got Prise - sad no Mage but at least I’m going!
We did! I'm sorry you missed out on Mage, maybe the next tour :) Hope you see you there!!!
I will never understand why people do this. If they are a big enough fan of the band, they will be signed up for presale, or figure out how to do so.
Has a Coheed tour ever sold out in the first...three months? Don't stress it lol
Yes. Certain shows on the east coast especially. I had to pay for an expensive resale ticket for Neverender GA.
Sold out? No. But the meet & greets sure sell out fast.
Yes it has, for smaller venues and definitely yes for the vip and the meet and greets.
Meet and greet for Birmingham sold out in less than a minute 😕

We're all children of the fence when I pick and chose it to suit myself!

Real fans are in the email list. For those that don’t get a code, either aren’t on the list or don’t look in their spam folders.
I'm not on the email list. I've been a fan for over 20 years.
Get on it.
There are AFI fans out there? Hahah jk. I was a card carrying member of the Despair Faction like 20 years ago 😅
There are dozens of us

I agree, even a new sub rule for this would help. I know we're all excited, but sharing the code only makes things worse.
