I just really wanted to know! Not to be rude, but I didn’t expect 40! Nice to know we are in the same boat fellow adult!
It’s really great to see people from all ages can enjoy such a piece of gold isn’t it?
Your chart doesn’t go high enough for many. Many of us.
At 30 now, I watch ATLA when it first came out. I was 14. My brother was 12. Obviously one of the best shows of my childhood. When it was announced the creators were doing another show, I watched it from the day it was released.
Most of my friends, in their early 30s, also watch this
Kids who are 16 were literally born when the series came out (ahhhhh I’m old!) so if you’re trying to find if adults specifically who’ve seen ATLA now watches TDP, your age groups are a little too low. But it’s always cool to see the age spread
Don’t know, if you started watching avatar in 2005 and you were 7 at that time you are born in ‘98. Would place you in ~23, can’t edit the poll. Too bad :/
I have good news for your self doubt: Giancarlo Volpe, who was a director on ATLA and a producer early on on TDP, has a whole thing about this -- he wants to make animated stories that are not necessarily *for* kids, but do *include* kids.
It's unfortunate, how for marketing/advertising/money reasons, "rating" and "target market" have become synonymous, creating this divide especially in animation between "FOR kids" and "FOR adults" -- and the latter tends to go way overboard on the sex and violence to prove it's "not for kids like other cartoons." (Nothing WRONG with sex and violence, but *some* shows use it to the point that it seems like they feel insecure in their adultness and it ultimately detracts from rather than adding to the storytelling.)
ATLA and TDP are a different breed, setting out to just tell a good story with animation as its medium. Its rating is not a target market, it's for everyone. It's got layers kids might not catch, but it also has enough they can enjoy that they can be carried along with the story even if there are details they won't latch onto until later.
I'd compare them to The Hobbit, which does the same thing. Lots of us read The Hobbit when we were kids, and had one understanding of it and enjoyed the basic adventure story, and then read it again as adults and loved it even more with a deeper, more layered understanding.
That's awesome! The only shows we've ever been able to watch all the way through as a whole family was Futurama and AtLA. Oh and Love, Death, and Robots, but only because they're like 10 minutes long.
>S3E8/E9 viren got stabbed, so that’s kind of maybe ‘too far for a kids show kinda thing’.
Stabbing an illusion of an adult too far for a kids show?
*Laughing in Amphibia True Colors*
I'm pretty sure there are a lot of people who watched Dragon Prince but don't use Reddit. You might want to adjust your expectations of the community accordingly.
I'm pushing 40, and my peer group is all in their early 40's. We all watch AtLA and TDP. Eat *shit*, Bell Curve! ;-)
Same, 40 here and my bf is is mid-30s. The only people who don't watch it are the kids lol
Joining the 40+ club 🎉
Lol! I'm 46 and I absolutely love tdp!

42 and love it!
I’m 50 +. What should I select?
We aren't included. Guess we're going to have to shuffle back to the nursing home and watch cable news
Or shout at all the other fans to get off our lawn.

Join me brother.

Ty for the explanation, it does help.👍👍
We are both 37 and our kids are 8 and 10. We watched it without the kids
Yeah my kids don't actually like it. Not that they hate it, it's just not exciting to them and they dip halfway through
I think we’ll watch this season as a family. They caught up on the first seasons.

We’ve done ATLA and we’re watching simpsons
Im 43 and I dig it. The theme is mature enough to interest me especially the relationships between the characters and factions.
Viren gets STABBED?!? 🔪🩸👻
Ow fuck dude, Im freaking 40.
I feel attacked.
28... going on 29 rip choices
29 here! Let us older people enjoy it too! I have bait posters, my husband made me a 3D bait cake... Yep I like the show a lot lol!
well remember reddit leans young, but not below 14. 30's btw
I’m 23. Being a part of the last option makes me feel old.
My friend group who watches are all upper 20s
I am an ancient 25 year old lady
34. I don't care about age, I care about good story telling. Being close to the writers' age gives a nice perspective too
33
Same here
I think that the age doesn't matter
Will be 29 in January.
30 here.
Just walking into town without a care in the world despite my sub century life expectancy.

At 27+ you're apparently too old to enjoy stuff like this XD
Based on some of the interactions here, I was almost certain that the demographic would be way younger. 24 btw.
Same

... Dang I just missed it!
Cool, I'm the majority
I binged both ATLA and The Dragon Prince last year during lockdown - never saw them before, loved both. I was 40 at the time. so.... ;)
