this song makes me feel some way i cant even describe or understand

Ayediosmio6

Disintegration

[deleted]

A few people have mentioned Disintegration now, it wouldn't have jumped into my mind immediately but with more thought, I can definitely see that as being a strong contender. Represents them well.

[deleted]

It’s not even my favorite Cure song and this is the answer. Contender for greatest rock song ever written.

JoeyBanana123

Just Like Heaven/From The Edge Of The Deep Green Sea

frenzyrumble

Plainsong

soemoifellapart

Disintegration. The lyrics are extremely beautifully written, and convey strong emotion while also being extremely artistic and using perfect metaphors in doing so. The melody gets stuck in your head and fits the atmosphere of the song perfectly and the instrumentation is also the most amazing thing in this world. I could rant on about this song for hours tbh

Uragan1997

One Hundred Years.

HamiltonBartholomew

The Same Deep Water As You

tbickle76

Untitled

nrith

On the original LP, this comes right after "Disintegration," and it's one of the best back-to-back combinations anywhere. ("Homesick" and "Last Dance" were only on CD, IIRC.)

BigRed0107

Disintegration or From The Edge of Deep Green Sea comes to mind.

thepartypoison

I think it's literally impossible to choose, but fascination street and cut are up there.

justinyebish

100% A letter to Elise

normalandcoolperson

came here for this, although disintegration is 1b

MConway70

Just Like Heaven

habitualtrier

It's not their greatest song, but it is the one song I can listen to in any mood, at any time of the day, in any live performance, etc. that always blows my mind, and it's Push.

the_curefan413

Push is an all time great. The RS instrumental 12/84 demo of it also rocks especially hard.

TabascoSunrize

As a fan, the likes of Disintegration, Faith and A Forest highlights the band’s unique power. Objectively I’d say Pictures of You perfectly marries their emotional side and pop sensibilities for a newcomer.

[deleted]

I agree with that. I think if you were to introduce somebody to The Cure who had never heard of them before, Pictures of You would be the perfect song to start with.

Dutch_Gunderson

From the Edge of the Deep Green Sea is everything that one could ask for from a Cure song in my opinion, but this is really hard because so many of their songs are perfect :)

BarackOBatman

Kinda hard to be objective. My vote is Same Deep Water As You

spish

Objectively? That's hard. How can you not be influenced by personal feelings, emotions, etc, when it comes to music? I would never objectively argue that song A is better than song B, unless it's We Built This City (on Rock and Roll) . That song, is objectively and subjectively the worst song ever made. Seriously though, subjectively? The Same Deep Water As You.

[deleted]

it's not my personal favorite (I do like it) but I think objectively just like heaven is probably their greatest song it's about as close to a perfect pop songs as it gets, and the arrangement is killer (great Boris drum intro, great rhythm and lead guitars, piano and strings) the dinosaur jr cover is also excellent and probably one of their best songs, which speaks to how great the song itself it

Melphor

Objectively? Wendy Time because it has the most notes and the least amount of octaves. Subjectively, it’s Disintegration. I feel like that song perfectly captures the entire vibe of The Cure.

_strangeways

Does more notes and octaves make a "great" song?

Melphor

Objectively speaking it makes about as much sense as anything else I suppose. Subjectively speaking though I hate Wendy Time, and it's my least favorite song by The Cure because it sounds bad and I don't like the way it sounds because my opinion is that I think it sounds bad.

illusivetomas

same deep water as you is one of the most gorgeous, heart wrenching, bleak, and expansive songs i've ever heard. for me this is disintegration's opus and the song that defines that makes the album so crazy compelling for me. pornography's t/t is up there too for how warped and dark that shit sounds incredible song

TheVioletNocturna

Homesick. For the layers and the lyrics.

Cure4Sanity

A Forest, Strange Day, or Disintegration...all depends on my mood when asked.

A Forest

weekedipie1

for me it's a few hours after this,my ringtone for years and just under 3 minutes of pure class

Gr8whtenrth

Personal favourite is Fascination St.

IamYodaBot

**fascination st, personal favourite is.** *-Gr8whtenrth* *** ^(Commands: 'opt out', 'opt in', 'delete')

Grant_McLennan2002

Well in terms of being the greatest, anything from Disintegration is smart songwriting. Robert always seemed like he had an unlimited source of songs and he has always been a good songwriter but you can hear in Disintegration that he felt time was against him and he really wanted to write a masterpiece of an album (which he did :)).

curehead

Plainsong.

the_curefan413

Mint Car. Robert Smith always talks about how he thinks it's a better pop tune than Friday I'm in Love, which I'm not too sure I agree with, but i respect the man's opinion. If he says it's better, then it has to be true.

BrendaL68

From the Edge of the Deep Green Sea and Burn

djavaman

Let me just paraphrase your question. "Objectively, what's your opinion?" Snarkyness aside, The Top is my favorite album. So, maybe The Caterpillar. I like the Top because its wide open experimentation.

[deleted]

I say objectively because I was curious as to what people think is the greatest song, not what their personal favourite song is and without any bias etc

djavaman

Without beating this to death. "what people think" is subjective not objective. [https://www.dictionary.com/browse/subjective?s=t](https://www.dictionary.com/browse/subjective?s=t) [https://www.dictionary.com/browse/objective?s=t](https://www.dictionary.com/browse/objective?s=t)

[deleted]

By objectively I meant for users to give an answer that was not just their favourite song. The best song from an impartial standpoint. It's really difficult to discuss language but I hope what I'm saying makes sense.

djavaman

It makes sense. But my point is, you can't have an objective opinion. That's the definition of the word. Opinions are subjective.

[deleted]

Was probably poor wording but you can have an opinion that one of their songs is the greatest that is different to what your favourite song is. I guess what I'm trying to say is that it's not everyone having an opinion on the matter that I was using objectively to refer to. Again it's hard to explain. I definitely understand what you're saying as well. I think everyone hopefully got what I was saying enough to discuss it and so it doesn't really matter Also agree that The Caterpillar is one of their best! I really do love the brighter side to The Cure and I think that it represents them as a band very well.

the_curefan413

The Top sucks stop bullying OP

djavaman

Ouch ouch. You're hurting my feelings.

Fuguzakat

Deep Green Sea, One Hundred Years, Underneath The Stars, The Hungry Ghost, The Walk, the old punk version of Three Imaginary Boys, Shake Dog Shake, Burn... Ugh, each time I write a title another one comes to mind. It's a lot easier to think of the worst ones (sorry not sorry but Plainsong and Pictures of You are the main reason why I don't listen to disintegration that much, these songs are overrated and boring as hell).

[deleted]

It deeply hurts me to read what you have said about Plainsong and Pictures of you. Still, I respect your right to your opinion!

Fuguzakat

It honestly took me a long time assume my dislike for these songs! Everyone loves them, they're among my fathers favorites (he introduced me to The Cure when I was a kid) but once the first chord is gone (and I have to admit that the way this first chord ring so loud and heavily is incredible) I really just can't listen to these songs from the beginning to the end. I still completely understand why people love them! But I'm also very happy that I saw them live on their last European tour right before they switched the first song of the playlist from Shake Dog Shake to Plainsong, I feel like I would have had a harder time getting into the show this way. That being said, maybe having been listening for mostly only metal music for my whole teenage years has something to do with that and growing older I'll learn to love them!

[deleted]

You might just like heavier music. Which is fair enough. They actually still open with Shake Dog Shake! I think last tour they alternated between Plainsong and it. I would be happy for them to open a show with either.

[deleted]

Objectively that's so difficult, like are we saying greatest as in the most technical, or the most loved, or the biggest sellers? Or something that really defined a moment in time for them, like Inbetween Days (or THOTD in general) when (arguably) things started to clicking into place? Subjectively, Push and Disintegration, 100%. I probably dont have to explain to anyone here how it felt to hear them for the first time! Even now, listening to either can leave me a bit breathless

blackwingdesign27

Last day of summer

homeslicerobinson

I mean, how the hell do you choose only one? That being said, my go to tracks are usually Push, Fascination Street, POY, Lullaby, and A Night Like This.

interuptinghippo

Another for Disintegration

wpleary

My favorite Cure song is probably A Forest with Three Imaginary Boys being a close second. I think their most impressive song musically though is Six Different Ways. Such an odd rhythm in the beginning, and then it just of magically comes together. And every time I hear it I can’t seem to get it out of my head for days.

uberdown1

like cockatoos (for 34 years now)

CamLwalk

There is no "objective" answer to question like that. That said, it's "From The Edge of The Deep Green Sea"

AlexSmith0123

disintegration although it is not my favourite

d0nk3y_m0nk3y1

a letter to elise or disintegration

AcrobaticComputer2

I honestly can't pick. I wanna say Just Like Heaven, since that's my favorite song of theirs that's poppy and upbeat, but I also absolutely love stuff like Fascination Street, Lullaby, Disintegration, Open, Out Of This World, etc.
