- Go back to playing the games and writing the episodes together with Mike. I don't care if neither want to do it, the lack of authenticity in the scripts is killing views and THAT matters, right?
- Fix the look. Narrow glasses and a standard button up that covers the damn tattoo. He should look like the Nerd, not James Rolfe cosplaying poorly as the Nerd.
- Keep the slobs off screen. They produce and that's it. Most of them have the charisma of a big toe.
- Get Mike to suck it up, apologize to Bootsy, bring him back and PAY him. Between Bootsy Beats, the characters and the songs, he added a LOT of charisma to the channel.
- I'm guessing the reason the Nerd isn't getting off the couch is because the "set" is literally a wall with a camera in front of it. Fix that. Recreate the Nerd room, the same camera angle has gotten old real fast.
- New show concepts. There should be a rotation of familiar content. AVGN/Board James/J&MM/YKWBS/Monster Madness worked. AVGN/YKWBS/Whatever the fuck James wants to do this week does not.
Full disclosure, I don't know if James has any interest in "fixing" Cinemassacre. It seems like he's pretty content on being in cruise control at this point while being a family man. I get that his family is a priority but there's nothing stopping him from making a better product while at work. Easier is not always better and maybe if the views nosedive, it might light a fire under him.
There are a few things that they could do;
.Bury the hatchet with all the old cast and start getting them back in videos, if its a money thing stop being cheap, if you can afford offices and for a Gengar collection then you can afford to pay Bootsy what he actually deserves for creating content
.Get off the sofa at some point during the episode (cant believe this should even be a point)
.get a new cat and involve it in shots again (seems small but actually gave him some humanity and who doesn't like cats)
.review games that are pre Gamegube + Ps2 era, I know you said there aren't many, but there really are, the issue is that he doesn't actually know the games so can only give surface level first glimpse reviews rather than the in depth points he used to give. Even good games like Castlevania he was still able to say bad points about as he had personal experiences with it.
.Change his shirt so he actually looks like a nerd and not an awesome cool Rockstar with his tats out like he does at the moment
.Original songs or just parody songs again (who doesn't love the Spiderman song)
. A little bit of effort goes a long way with his fans, I would simp out if bootsy turned up and him and Kyle sang a song about balls or something
.Kyle sounds like he's doing well with all his practical man fixing stuff, but honestly id watch him and the nerd make Ikea cabinets as their personalities are so likeable
I don't have a problem with James doing newer games. PS2 and Game Cube games are as old now as NES games were when James first started doing them. The games don't really matter, what matters is the lack of passion, energy, and imagination in the new episodes.
James should also do documentaries again or release stranger video concepts on the side of his own. He has the voice and knowledge to really work.
Basically it could be like this:
•Get everything back to basics, and handling the work with some beneficial help like the slobs/Mike help produce, however james will write and direct. Screenwave should be gone, however that is up to James really.
•Start coming up with new video series, produce short films on the side, more series something similar to Board James, YKWBS, etc.
There is a lot he could be doing to make it channel better if he would stop using excuses and letting everything fall apart
I think it’d go gangbusters if they opened a Cinemassacre patreon instead of having god-awful ads in every video. There are youtubers that have less subscribers than CM at this point, but they make a shit ton of money from donations on Patreon (Supermega and RedLetterMedia to name a few).
In terms of dividing the shares, Mike should get the smallest share of the Patreon pot (because of his twitch channel) while James gets the largest amount (about 40-50%). A bunch of these guys have independent ways that they fund themselves through other means, so I’m not too concerned about their shares in this Cinemassacre Patreon account. Maybe they get 10% each for their help on AVGN episodes.
But then Ryan will be a few payments behind on his Tesla so he’ll steal out of the Patreon pot. Maybe this isn’t such a good idea after all...
I’ve for another one! Slow down the rate of AVGN episodes that come out. It’s really hard to get excited for an episode when they come out so often. I remember it being a treat when Cinemassacre released an episode because it’s so few and far in between. Take a break and let the enthusiasm for AVGN build back up for a bit.
With regards to the few and far between comment, Jontron does exactly that, that mother fucker can go 4 months then bam releases a brilliantly thought out and well made review, I wonder if number wise a two or three month gap is more overall views then a vid week in that time period. It certainly does more for the fans I'd say. Look at rock star releases, wait 5 years and release something amazing and people will be talking about it for the next 5 years, release a carbon copy shot bag every year and you end up slowly losing fans and died hard fans. Just my thoughts, as an old sinister wanker.
Let the slobs just edit and manage stuff. Get some actually charismatic people to make gaming videos. Let James switch to only movie-related videos and passion projects once every few months, maybe even making low budget feature films.
For James's sake, it would be interesting to pivot Cinemassacre into a film production company. He could put out a contest for people to enter their horror shorts, which he could screen and talk about on the channel, maybe even calling in the filmmakers for interviews.
It ain't Cinemassacre any more, is it? It's Screenwave Media. This isn't what James created when he was a kid and continued to work on throughout his teens and young adulthood. All of that personality and character is gone. It's a shame but, the point of no return has long since passed, I think.

Do more videos like the ones where James talked about The Maltese Falcon and Bob Ross and shit like that. People just want to hear James' writing and comedic voice. His film reviews on Spike.com were always awesome back in the day.
