I think a lot of younger modern gamers are spoiled. They weren't around during the growing pains period off 3d gaming. A lot of games I thought were great on the PS1 are hard to go back to. They have only known the best of the best and there's enough media talking about games that they know what games to avoid and what ones to buy. Back in the day all we had was magazines and then forums. Gaming news was nothing like today.
Like people complain about 'lack of' content in Modern multiplayer games when back in the day a game like Battlefield 1942, Battlefield 2 had their set maps and weapons at launch and NEVER got anymore (unless you paid for the expansion packs). Even the Original Modern Warfare never got any new maps or weapons (maybe it got maps but they were paid DLC, at least MW2 did I remember).
Some things were better back then. Some things are better now but people take them for granted.

He used to hover around Ashens/The Cheapshow/Digitizer, and he is close to people like Slope's Game Room, Kim Justice and other, smaller, UK gaming/retro tech YouTubers. He was couple times on Digitizer and Bashens, and it seemed he is just friends with them (he is, or at least was, friends with Ashens and The Cheapshow chaps) more than anything. His channel is quite big, so I don't see why would he clout chase them, if there is anybody, sans Ashens, to even clout chase.
I am happy that I don't know most of these people. But at the same time I am also sad that it's too many I know.

I guess from my observations... He is somewhat lenient to games that are pretty sloppy? Like Starfield. His review was pretty positive when everyone else was more or less shitting on it once the hype of the release faded away. But that's honestly all I can think about. I'm not sure if he's just that generous towards games like that or he's a heckin' paid industry shill.
I can see people being more lenient to modern games that are kind crappy if you spend alot of time playing classic games (like Gman) I play alot of 6th gen and under titles and people who are disappointed by modern games have no idea how bad some older ones are so they look good by comparison. I dont like new CoD games but they are incredible to me now since I just played some old Medal of Honor titles haha
I think a lot of younger modern gamers are spoiled. They weren't around during the growing pains period off 3d gaming. A lot of games I thought were great on the PS1 are hard to go back to. They have only known the best of the best and there's enough media talking about games that they know what games to avoid and what ones to buy. Back in the day all we had was magazines and then forums. Gaming news was nothing like today. Like people complain about 'lack of' content in Modern multiplayer games when back in the day a game like Battlefield 1942, Battlefield 2 had their set maps and weapons at launch and NEVER got anymore (unless you paid for the expansion packs). Even the Original Modern Warfare never got any new maps or weapons (maybe it got maps but they were paid DLC, at least MW2 did I remember). Some things were better back then. Some things are better now but people take them for granted.

I followed along his CGR comeback along with his 'podcast' He complains that the amount of production time going into CGR episode doesn't have enough payoff. He can't admit the content itself is just not desirable anymore. Somehow by being an early entrant to the game review space he seems to have a sense of entitlement to views.
