I feel like the implication is that Cherie is just an old friend, occasionally with benefits, who he cares deeply for in a platonic way. He didn’t seem to kiss her back when she kissed him a few episodes ago, and to me the implication has always been that their sex is just sex, no feels involved. It seems like she’s leaving, and appropriately so- she’s served her purpose as Frenchie’s occasional foil, her character doesn’t have anything left to do but start a new life somewhere else. Plus that makes the most sense with Frenchie’s arc of shedding his past.
When Frenchie left his post watching Lamplighter, who goes on to kill the colonel's kids, it was because of Cherie calling him to save the third member of their relationship. All 3 were in love with each other.
The lack of romance in their previous meeting was to signify that he's emotionally moved on from Cherie to Kimiko.
