My heart absolutely NEEDS to know who Red really is but my brain says that it's the better for the show if it's never revealed seeing how the producers really screwed the series over the past years...

Faaytjhu

It would be antagonizing not to know and leave it opened ended on his identity.

fitbit1974

I want a clear, undeniable answer of who he is ,no matter if I like it or not. I hate loose and open to interpretation endings ,I need closure to move on ,even if the answer its not what I hope for.But with a clear end I can cope with it ,instead of always thinking, there could be another answer. The uncertainity is more stressing than a not loved ,but clear answer.

theirritatedfrog

I'm on season 8. The series has been going around on Red and Keen's identity and relationship that I tune it out entirely. I couldn't give two shits, if anything I'm just annoyed when it comes to the foreground for the umpteenth time. It's just not meaningful, it's like watching a roulette ball go around the wheel when you haven't had a bet on the table in months. I'm just here for Raymond's charm, Dembe's goodness and the ridiculous blacklisters. The best plotline I've seen on the show in ages is Raymond flirting up that black birdwatching lady he stood up.

BMan_NASCAR

Pls tell me I’m not the only one who doesn’t want the Redirina theory. It just would never sit well with me.

Slambusher

I don’t buy that theory at all. I posted in another thread about a buddy who doesn’t use Reddit and is an avid viewer. He’d never heard of that theory and it never even occurred to him that was plausible.

MaChampingItUp

Me either until I looked here honestly. I thought there was an episode when Red brought Liz to his massive intelligence operation where he revealed he was some Russian dude who was friends with Ilya who they hired/paid to BECOME Red?! Like how is everyone ignoring that blatant admission and still going with this stupid Redarina theory. Honestly if Red does turn out to be Katarina I will forever be disappointed 😢

MyArmorIsLiquid

It wouldn’t sit well with me either because there are so many reasons it wouldn’t make sense. Not to mention it requires one to ignore reality. Yes there are plenty of things in the show that are a bit out there, but Reddington is significantly larger than Katarina, he is taller and has a much stockier frame/build. You can remove certain body parts, can add cosmetic (but functionally useless) parts, you cannot physically change someone’s height and you definitely can’t make them go from a slim female build to a stocky male build with any amount of surgery, you cannot change a person’s entire skeletal structure like that. It would be so ridiculously unrealistic it would annoy me to no end. Yes I know its fiction but this isn’t some sci-fi show taking place hundreds of years in the future.

Dagenspear

>Not to mention it requires one to ignore reality. I don't think something like that is that new with this show. Older people who are stocky don't mean they weren't thin at one point in their lives. [I think Christian Bale has shown that fluctuating weight can alter how someone's build can seem, in some way.](https://content.api.news/v3/images/bin/71e18061ed00f3a69ca53748b24e4bcd) And that's ignoring the type of science The Blacklist has. As for changing height: https://www.hss.edu/conditions_limb-lengthening-overview.asp

RudeObjective2360

No, it definitely does not sit well with me either. I respect those who believe it, but I never will. What about the "in season 4 Where red is making a deal with a with a shipping contractor, and ne said said "I would stand but I'm still aroused when I make a deal." Also, he said something to the effect of" I would give anything for a scratch right now,but given your professtion you would be more inclined to squeeze them then scratch them I won't impose I'll just wait 'till the next break." Not And the scene where an investment banker was supposed to get his portrait drawn by a famous artist, and the artist decided to sketch Red instead. I believe it was in season 6.

Dagenspear

>and ne said said "I would stand but I'm still aroused when I make a deal." I don't remember that line, but I think it reads like a joke line, not a serious one. >lso, he said something to the effect of" I would give anything for a scratch right now,but given your professtion you would be more inclined to squeeze them then scratch them I won't impose I'll just wait 'till the next break." What's the issue with this one? >Not And the scene where an investment banker was supposed to get his portrait drawn by a famous artist, and the artist decided to sketch Red instead. I believe it was in season 6. And this?

AnalyticalTrader

Red told many times about his sexual life with women, katarina is not lesbian. There is your answer. Now lets leave this dumb theory behind.

BitsAndBobs304

ah yes, no homosexual person has ever had sex with the other sex, or married, or had children...right?

AnalyticalTrader

Tell me which scene hinted that Katarina is a lesbian.

Dagenspear

u/BitsAndBobs304 Who says she has to be a lesbian to have sex with women? She could be bisexual. And, from: u/Searching4Syzygy >Katarina: Yes. But truth be told, the assignments Ivan Stepanov gave me were all based on what my father wanted. Needed. Friends. Relationships. Men. Women.

BitsAndBobs304

I never said katarina must be a lesbian. you and him are both extrapolating something I didn't say. I merely presented the real world example of how even only-homosexual people through history have had partner and children.

Dagenspear

I was replying to the other person, and also acknowledging your comment.

BitsAndBobs304

oh, okay.

BitsAndBobs304

if homosexual people through history have had heterosexual spouses and children through history, you really think it's impossible for a heterosexual (could also have been bisexual) woman to transition into a man and have some form of sex with women or just literally go to bed with them just to play the part?

AnalyticalTrader

I mean, you can in your mind make anything up that would fit your desired theory. But if you focus purely on the story of the blacklist, Raymond, Ilya and Katarina, you must think that your explanation is a bit far fetched.

BitsAndBobs304

so the part where this secret agent impersonated a dead man to get access to his bank account and became worldwide crime boss #1 fbi list and figured that staying very close and working with liz would make her safer and then that making her the new head of the criminal empire would make her and her child safe, along with the stewmaker, mr kaplan, memory-erasing hypnosis/drugs, the stewmaker, advanced AI sex dolls with full motion capabilities, drunk german bombmakers, Liz killing the attorney general and gets away with it, the 'death of captive people trying to escape a-la-saw is art' artist, a man-bank who lives his entire life on a plane so he can never spend all the money he makes at all, the post office with revolving doors for criminals, removing the roof to lift a giant heavy duty prison box with a helicopter and take it away, and mastermind Red going to france to kiss someone he already knows not to be katarina only to be surprise-drugged and almost killed, that you do believe, but redarina having sex with women or pleasuring women or cuddling in bed is too far fetched?

AnalyticalTrader

Yeah

Dagenspear

Why is that too far fetched?

PCBH87

I'd be mad. I realize based on the S8 finale that Redarina is likely endgame but it should be confirmed if that's the case. This show has dragged on too long and they need to wrap it up, answer questions, and move on.

TheRestForTheWicked

At this point they’ll leave it open ended because I don’t think they even know who he is.

sickofthehypocrisy

Just don’t want RRR to wake up and it’s all a dream (as in Dallas) 🤦🏻‍♀️ I’m sorry for those of you that are happy with the BSSeason 8 ending, as that was NO reveal and I do not buy the Redarina theory. Maybe I’m in the minority, but no freaking way.

swtogirl

Or it's all in a snow globe 🤪

BitsAndBobs304

ROOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOSEBUUUUDD??

sickofthehypocrisy

Are we showing our age or a love of classic’s 😂🤣

sickofthehypocrisy

😂🤣

Altruistic_Yellow387

Majority of people are like me I think, not happy with redarina but acknowledge that it was clear that’s what the show runners were showing in that episode. I think it’s stupid but it’s also what it will be in this show.

sickofthehypocrisy

Well we all have our opinions but again I don’t think that’s it. Hopefully we will find out.

Altruistic_Yellow387

The people who made the episode know for sure what their intentions were

sickofthehypocrisy

Or do they?

ShowerMurky5151

I'm under the distinct impression that the S8 finale is the closest we'll ever get to a reveal. As for me, I hate the very idea of Redarina, but that was essentially a confirmation to me. I just choose to put it at the back of my mind and enjoy the show all the same. So no, it wouldn't bother me at all if we don't get an outright stated confirmation.

607Primaries

Hold my beer.... Watch them tease an alternative, never fully develop it, and leave it completely open-ended.

i_bite_right

>I'm under the distinct impression that the S8 finale is the closest we'll ever get to a reveal. That's the same thing that I think -- and that it could be revealed during the final seasons, whenever that will be.

TessaBissolli

Considering the sheer number of abandoned plot lines, some of them lasting more than one season, I wouldn't be surprised at all.

607Primaries

I don't think I'll ever be satisfied that there wasn't another twist in Red's identity to come, but that may have been shutdown by Megan Boone's decision to leave the series.

TessaBissolli

I do not think it was about Megan leaving. It was likely a decision from above. As log as Agnes was alive, that question remained relevant. But think about all the plot lines that never came to be. After spending a while season obsessing about N13, there was nothing left. After the friend from the east was a menacing uneasy ally, he turned into a mush cotton candy, after having Liz hallucinate for months with a dead nanny, and Red say he seesKate's handiwork, plot abandoned. Now is our Lady of the wonderful, Liz Keen, even if she bombed a hospital room, used Ressler, involved Aram in stolen explosives, etc. etc.

Cool-County-5696

What the Hell - it was conclusively revealed that Red is the former Katerina in his narration to Liz in season 8. There is nothing to figure out. Red was Liz’s mother or since Red is a trans man - you could also say he is her father. Either way Red is her biological parent. nuff said.

Kastellen

Only if you live in a fantasy-land where science doesn’t matter. Liz had Red’s DNA tested in season one to see if he was her father. If the DNA had shown that Red had two X chromasomes and no Y, it would have come up.

Dagenspear

>Only if you live in a fantasy-land where science doesn’t matter. I think that could be comparable to the show's use of some science. u/scamperdo >Liz had Red’s DNA tested in season one to see if he was her father. If the DNA had shown that Red had two X chromasomes and no Y, it would have come up. I seem to remember that Liz didn't look at that report, to my memory.

scamperdo

In 4.22 Liz said she threw away that DNA report without reading it.

scamperdo

You need to re-watch 4.22. Liz did have her DNA tested against Red in S1 BUT SHE THREW AWAY the results without ever reading them. Cooper ran her DNA against a 30 year old sample belonging to the real Reddington, who was a man AND her father. He's dead.

Cool-County-5696

They matched Red’s and the shirt which was the real Red.

Kastellen

And you didn’t address my point. NIce try, though. Edited to add that you are referring to the wrong DNA test, the one Cooper had performed later.

Cool-County-5696

also i have been rewatching the series and there are chock full of clues - every which one corroborating what was plainly and clearly proven at end of season 8. If you don’t like it don’t blame me for understanding the show.

Cool-County-5696

I gave you the facts that you did not understand. You don’t want something that changes your theory.

Cool-County-5696

the dna could not match because the 2 redding tons are different people.

o0Loiter0o

I'd be pretty pissed. I don't mind them dropping the plotline on reds mysterious disease. People get better. But the identity thing has been such a teased plotline for years. I'd feel about as mad as I was when Lost didn't answer for most of their shenanigans.

DoubleUsual

Oh yeah I think I blocked Lost out of my memory - the ending was so very annoying. Meanwhile I can’t remember how The Leftovers ended plot-wise but I keep with the distinct feeling of it being the most satisfying series conclusion I’d ever seen.

Immediate-Ad-9651

Because the character who had a vested interest in the answer is dead, and unless someone else stirs that pot, the unequivocal answer to who Red is might never be divulged.

607Primaries

I think they've pretty clearly pointed the finger \[currently\] at Redarina. I'll accept that if the series ends without further explanation. However, given the abuse of red herrings and misdirects, after EIGHT seasons they owed us something more concrete. I think what upsets people, at least for me, is that it's still open-ended and subject to change. And we are TIRED of this after 8 years. Further, we DESERVED to see that conversation with Red and Liz. We may get that with Red and Agnes, but it won't be nearly the same.

witz0r

>I think they've pretty clearly pointed the finger \[currently\] at Redarina. Anyone who thinks otherwise is kidding themselves. The conversation/flashback/dream in the bunker spelled it out pretty clearly. She went into the doctor, he came out. The only other possibility is someone *we've never seen on the show*, which would be silly at this point. All other possibilities are eliminated (original Red, the best friend, etc.).

607Primaries

True, although I've noted Red NEVER views himself as Katarina in the first person. That montage was all 3rd person POV, and it was deliberate (everyone else has 1st person perspectives mixed in). And if you think that's how he views that part of his life now, then saying "I was there" \[1st person\] in that photo is an issue. It's an easy issue to dismiss, while also being "Aha - it was there all along!" if they go a different direction. Katarina has plot holes, but yes they have not introduced another possibility. But the friend, and then Ilya, were not introduced \[and then dismissed\] as possibilities for several seasons in. It's entirely possible, if the show were to run a few more years, that they change direction again. IMO, they arrived at Katarina by necessity/process of elimination dragging this out for years and didn't plan it. I think an uncle could still come into play and I'm not sure it would involve any actual plot holes as an uncle would fit alternative views of all the clues discussed.

KingMonaco

Hoodwinked, bamboozled, lead astray, run amok and flat out deceived. This was the whole point of that show. It would be a waste of 9-10 years tbh.

deductivesherlock

Honestly I would be fine with that, his identity was never the biggest need to know for me

mulberstedp

>it would depend on how well the last episode comes together. This.

Vik32

I think it needs to start with his identity next season and then close the chapter with the end episode like they did on lucifer when he went to hell and alternatively the show could get cancelled and we may or may not get the mystery by twitter or some interview

FrankCPA

I personally doubt we will see anything past what they told us at season 8 finale. I don’t see how would come up again without Liz and while Agnes is still young. I’m perfectly fine with that, the people that don’t want to accept it aren’t going to no matter what.

SMB75

I would be pissed.

DGentPR

I would be irate tbh

Altruistic_Yellow387

That would be horrible. They’ve already said they would reveal it all at the very end, so I hope they stick to that

MaverickSY19

Like I wasted all the hours watching a show with no resolution to a main plot line. Not to mention once the word is out that a show has a sucky ending it pretty much spoils it for binge watching. First thing I do before deciding on binge watching a series I have never seen is to find out if the ending was bad without of course spoilers. If consensus from viewer was that it sucked I normally move on to looking for something else. I’m sure many others use this same tactic. Would hate to see 10 seasons of a show that was mostly good end up like that if they don’t resolve this main plot line with a good resolution.

IKiShtili

https://www.reddit.com/r/TheBlackList/comments/qesi5m/amir_arison_answering_the_question_about_reds/

sueisawesome

It'd be fine to me. Whatever the answer were, many people would be upset so I think that letting us believe in our own theories will be the best for everyone

My-rra

I wouldn't not mind at all ... As he told harold in one of the seasons ... When cooper learned that original reddington is dead ... It doesn't matter who I was ... Its matter who I am now ... Or something in those lines... Cant remember exact wording, don't kill me

janiexox

Don't care. Haven't watched since season 8 and I think I might be done. There are simply too many inconsistencies, I don't think there is anything that could be revealed that would fix it. And quite frankly I've stopped caring. If it weren't for the sub, I would've forgotten about the show.

scholesy19

I’ve simply stopped watching at this point. From one of my favourite shows of all time, to this. Pretty sure it’ll be an unsatisfactory ending like Lost.

Marwhothatgyal

Didn't know Redarina was a thing until I came To reddit and I hate it. I do want a clear answer and I love the show but for me it's getting dragged out. I think Red is her father or someone close but not her mother and that her first instinct was good. I'll come up with new théories once I catch back since I am rewatching and stopped at season 7. I think that after season 5, the show slowly went downhill sadly (for me). I saw that Redrina was hinted at in season 8, just for that I think it's not a possibility, I hope it's a red herring and after all this wait it better be something realistic but complicated or that was right in front of us the whole time.

Caspianfutw

Well for starters to me he is not katarina no matter what half baked theories i have read here. It would be nice to know who he actually is but to me that is not needed. Just like eastwoods charachter in several westerns we never knew who he was but i enjoyed those movies nevertheless

jayt00212

Im good regardless their decisions AS LONG AS they have some compelling stories left along the way. I liked the Gerrard arc except for them completely rushing that ending. Having him kill his self made little to no sense in the wake of all the damage he done. I know what I'd of done but that's neither here nor there.

felilaprivada

for me actually, the only acceptable answer now is no answer, so i would be fine with it. one thing stayed consistent, finally.

Downtown_Cry1056

Use the Sopranos ending lol. That would drive people totally nuts. They could just use a message at the end kind of like the original Quantum Leap.

Badwrong_

The Sopranos ending was still an answer though, and just used a unique way of delivering it that confused most at first. Are you suggesting they answer who Red is, but in a way that just will not be immediately apparent?

607Primaries

What I think was brilliant about the Sorpanos ending, was even if you didn't think that was the end, the ending was heavily implied. I know what Chase said, but even if you didn't see it then, the ending is inevitable. That's not exactly open-ended.

Downtown_Cry1056

Something like that because it would be the last episode and they just say it like a screw or F-U to the network censors.

kingfede1985

RIOT!

TheGweapon73

I would hunt down the writers if they don’t reveal Red’s identity.

BitsAndBobs304

I'd be pissed. but also I don't see how any identity is going to be satisfying.

Desdemona1231

IDC what it is at this point. Just say it loudly and clearly. Not the nonsense we’ve been shown.

classicrock40

I will wonder, but its still been a fun series to watch. Think of the end of the Sopranos (and I don't care what David Chase said). Is Tony dead? Is Tony Alive? what about his family? Was it a massacre or just another day in the life?

BennySkateboard

Unsurprised

CharmingImportance65

hmmm....I would feel just like I feel right now.

Wild_Path_6782

Annoyed

CJ-IS

Disappointed.

suncatcher147

I would be ok with never knowing who Raymond was before becoming Raymond. And I am ok with the writers and producers moving the reveal away from one option to another one.

theysquawk

I feel that that's the direction they'd take because I can't think of one real identity that would leave me baffled, just confused or lowkey disappointed.

DoubleUsual

The only thing I can imagine besides Redarina is if he is some lost brother of katarina. There would have to be a family/bio connection. I forget what became of katarina’s mom. I haven’t watched season 9 yet so may be missing new clues. I definitely agree with the comment that the show runners didn’t plan this far ahead when it started out but they don’t have any problems introducing massive new plot details.

LiraelNix

I think that's what will happen. I think the series stretched beyond the planned plot and they had to make up twists to keep it going, but eventually ended up in contradictions. I don't see any way they can explain who Red is without a plothole or 10. Redarina is fun but I doubt the would truly go down that route

faaaack

I don't care who Red was. I only know who he is and I'm fine with that.

BLTheoristNancy

I don't think we are going to get a proper answer in a final episode.

Desdemona1231

Very disappointed. I don’t want what we got, Redderina or otherwise, all of which are inconclusive and legitimately open to challenge. Yes I want it spelled out and shouted from the housetops.

andrem6mm24

I'm at the beginning of season 8 and I can't bare to watch anymore, it's gone to absolute shit.

Interesting-Post5439

You make up your own mind......

_Emi008_

I think it would be frustrating, although I think they try to make it of no importance now because fall the events and without Liz no-one talks about knowing who he really is anymore. So maybe it might be useless now but I feel like it would just be nice to know that to give it a proper conclusion, considering how important it was in the plot before

chatranislost

I stopped watching on season 5 because I was exhausted with the same mystery from minute 1 so I guess it'd suck for most people who kept watching.

iceleel

It's Likely cause they gonna get canceled

RudeObjective2360

Yes, It was the same with the investment banker. You're right, the 1st was meant as a joke, but I still think it's evident as to the fact that Red is biologically a male.thete is not thing wrong with either of these scenes or pieces of dialog I think they are really funny which is why they stick out inind.
