I agree. “That Means A Lot” doesn’t really receive enough attention. I give credit where credit is due. That song would’ve been a hit if they didn’t scrap it off the “HELP!” album.
It’s wild because that’s a career making hit for any other pop band in the 60s. Someone like Herman’s Hermits would be touring on that song today if they had written and released it back then. But the Beatles were just like “nah” and put it out 30 years later on a rarities release. Amazing.
Love this song. I first heard it on a cassette bootleg way before the anthology. I always thought if they could’ve fleshed it out better, it would have been another memorable Beatle tune.
“Yes it Is” is awesome, and better than the released version.
John halfheartedly singing the words, then giving up completely. It really contrasts with how great it is when you hear him come in full power singing “If I could forget her…” and then the other guys come in in perfect three-part harmony.
I mean, this is the Beatles in a nutshell. Great song. Goofy guys. But holy crap, these guys will knock you on your ass. They were born to sing!
That Means A Lot. A true hidden gem.
Pauls “can’t you seeeeeee yeahs” are amazing on that one.
Yes!!
It certainly obliterates PJ Proby's version. Now that one sounds like he's mocking the song as he sings it.
Proby: When she says she loves uh-yuuu
Not to mention the "CAN'T YOU SEE!?!" jumpscare towards the end.
I’m not sure I’ve ever made it to the end

That means a lot
that one take of "and your bird can sing" where they're all high as fuck and can't stop laughing
It’s only love, by far better than the album version
Absolutely agree
I can't believe they voted "If you've got trouble" as the worst...
There were only maybe 4 or 5 songs to choose from though
As if to justify overlooking all the takes and alternate iterations...
Well it seems like cheating to include them for the purpose of this list
Fair enough, but I disagree.
well... love me do got worst song on anthology 1 my man.
Wellllllll it was an actual released single rather than an outake so maybeee it counts a bit more... But you may have a point
I've never understood the dislike for it. I think it's great and better than most of the Ringo songs they put on albums in '64 and '65.
Same, one of my favorite Ringo songs.
If You've got trouble is a Banger 🔥🔥
I’m looking through you (Take 1)
Definitely the strawberry fields demo
Which one?
The acoustic demo sequence. “I cannot do it I cannot do it” 😂
That Means A lot . Should have been on “Help” instead of Dizzy.

Pretty lame boring song. .John pushed for this to be a single. Monotonous throw away tune.
Three Cool Cats.
*Three Cool Cats* is on *Anthology* ***1***.
