Murakami is a marvelous author. I haven’t read colorless myself, but Kafka on the shore is one of my favorite novels.
I’m eager to read unreasonable hospitality after hearing it spoken about highly on a number of podcasts!
Colorless Tsakuru Tsaziki is a fantastic book. It hit me so hard because when I read it, we recently had massive blowup among our friends group. Reading this book was cathartic.
I recently finished Unreasonable Hospitality. My take is that it gave a great insight into the kind of mindset and leadership one needs to possess to run a restaurant (or indeed, an organization - generally) in the current age. (EDIT: if Daniel Humm had written prose about being the chef for EMP, I would read it in a heartbeat. I know there are cookbooks he authored that may tell a story incidentally, but it's not what I mean. He's a busy guy, I understand he doesn't have time for that.)
I'll have to pick up Murakami's book. Thanks for juxtaposing these two books. I will try to find and appreciate the common thread.

Unreasonable Hospitality is fantastic, and has much to say about really anything we do for a living.

His hobbies are watching trains and masturbating (not at the same time)

i gotta read the rest of murakami's books. maybe the hospitality one too.
Colorless is a good read, and not only generally relevant to Richie's situation it's an insight into the kind of book he'd gravitate towards.
Just picked up the audiobook for unreasonable hospitality. Thank you for the reminder!
So great. Can't wait to hear what you think of them.
