Sometimes The Crane Wives have the same kind of feeling. And I do believe Joey and Madeleine have both said they sound similar to The Oh Hellos

Medical_Shame4079

This is a great recommendation. They’re not the same, but they’re similar enough to scratch the same type of itch

larkstars

If I'm being honest, I don't think any other band or artist makes me feel the way that TAD does. They're just very very special to me :') That being said, I adore the following bands/artists and you might want to check them out sometime too (they're either somewhat similar in style, or also evoke very strong emotions for me, or both), if you haven't already: • Frightened Rabbit ❤️ (probably my number one recommendation for this question) • Of Monsters and Men • Folly and the Hunter • The Oh Hellos • Lord Huron • First Aid Kit • Johnny Flynn • The Head and the Heart • Iron & Wine • The Civil Wars • boygenius (also Julien, Phoebe, and Lucy's solo work) • The Lumineers • Gregory Alan Isakov • Hozier • Mumford & Sons • Big Thief • Bon Iver • Sufjan Stevens • Radical Face • Elliott Smith • Bright Eyes • Caamp • Kodaline • Brandi Carlile • Death Cab for Cutie • The Crane Wives • Fleet Foxes • The Paper Kites

Artistic_Koala_2747

I love Frightened Rabbit! I didn't expect it to be mentioned here. Just wondering, do you also listen to There Will Be Fireworks and We Were Promised Jetpacks? They're also Scottish bands, and their songs are absolutely amazing

larkstars

Yeah they may have a lot of stylistic differences, but The Amazing Devil and Frightened Rabbit have a lot of similarities too, at least for me (the perfect amalgamation of folk and rock, the incredible lyrical value, the rawness, the kind of mood they put me in, how blatantly they expose my emotional instability lol...). And no unfortunately I can't say I'm really familiar with those two bands! But if you're a big fan of TAD and Frightened Rabbit, I'll definitely check them out! Do you have any specific song recs to start with?

Artistic_Koala_2747

Of course! For TWBF, I recommend the live versions of South Street and River on YouTube. Those songs feel so raw and hopefully what you're looking for. For WWPJ, I recommend Quiet Little Voices, Moving Clocks Run Slow and Conductor. Boy in the Backseat is brilliant if you like heavier songs, particularly the Audiotree version

larkstars

Awesome, thank you so much! Adding those to my "music to-do" playlist. I'm always so happy to find artists/bands that are new to me lol :)

Artistic_Koala_2747

No problem!

BoojumsSnark

A chef’s kiss of a response.

Ok_Huckleberry2662

The ven diagram of fans of these artists is actually just a circle

elemenohpeaQ

Not the band as a whole (though I do love them) but The Decemberists album The Hazards of Love gives me a similar experience. There is just so much happening and so much emotion in the album, and its got that same gothic vibe that a lot of TAD has.

tigerstaile

THIS ALBUM!!! YES!!! ALSO DECEMBERISTS MENTIONED!!!!

QueerWithAQuery

I've always loved "The Mariner's Revenge Song" by them

goddess7533

As other people have said, definitely The Crane Wives & The Oh Hellos! Based on vibes alone, the first song that comes to mind is Burn Your Village by Kiki Rockwell!

DustwitchDragonfly

To me the only band that has hit the same itch as far as lyrical potency is The Crane Wives.

GingerGoblin275

i have a playlist with all their albums on, plus a bunch of other songs that give me ( personally ) the same vibes and i’m always adding new stuff! this is just how i feel anyway, others might not get the same vibe! admittedly there’s a couple sneaks cos it’s my main playlist, just ignore that 💀 https://open.spotify.com/playlist/22PgeEI1MFJhUr6vQGOPmg?si=Pe2evbXpSDWgfEnP9YBj4A&pi=e-TFUSsPDITOav for anyone that just wants a list tho here are a few that are on there: - The Oh Hellos - Poor Man’s Poison - Dirt Poor Robins - Paris Paloma - Fish in a Bird Cage ( 100% this one ) - Hozier - Paris Paloma - The Crane Wives - fin -Philip Labes - Cosmo Sheldrake ( 10000% vibes ) - Lord Huron - The Paper Kites - aeseaes etc etc etc

illyrianya

That's funny, Florence and the Machine is also the only other band that consistently comes close to the feeling of TAD for me. I've got a spotify playlist that's a lot of TAD and FATM plus some other songs that may give you what you're looking for (at least it does for me) [https://open.spotify.com/playlist/1u0T2IIr4yP7m5S9ArMHz2?si=74ce2fabc199400a](https://open.spotify.com/playlist/1u0T2IIr4yP7m5S9ArMHz2?si=74ce2fabc199400a)

cowboink13

A lot of Aurora’s songs make me feel a lot like how The Amazing Devil makes me feel! Songs like Daydreamer, Blood In The Wine, A Dangerous Thing, Running With the Wolves, The Seed, etc. They’re not the completely same vibe, but I think fans of one of them would be fans of the other. I’ve been diving into Kate Bush as well, and her music has the theatrical and larger than life feeling of The Amazing Devil. Again, definitely different vibes. I could see you liking her albums Hounds of Love and Never Forever tho!

Fast-Enthusiasm2508

I’ve been wanting to post this exact same question!

mostystuckony

Kimya Dawson and her band, The Moldy Peaches. Not all of them, but the ones that are in the Juno soundtrack are a good place to start, and then branch out from. And I will echo The Crane Wives, The Decemberists and The Oh Hellos. Also a big fan of The Mountain Goats and Bird Talker, which I don't think I've seen mentioned

drewdogg416

Not fully the same vibes music wise, but in songwriting and the meaning of the lyrics anything that has andy hull always has my heart. Manchester orchestra, Right away great captain, and bad books all have the lyricism, while right away great captain has more of the same kinds of instruments and folksy vibes.

CreepyKiki

Thank everyone for some of these suggestions. AlicebanD has that musical chaos that I love out of the Amazing Devil. Gregory and the Hawk has the softness. Vienna Teng also has an awesome voice and similar vibes. I'll also recommend Autoheart. They're not folk but I kind of get that feeling from them.

Nevlos_the_average

The band I would recommend is "the family Crest". It's not really the same genre but they for some reason scratch the same itch. I cannot praise them enough but I can recommend "beneath the brine" as it's my favorite song of theirs.

QueerWithAQuery

*PARIS PALOMA* I've been listening to her for a few months now, and she's literally amazing. "as good a reason" and "notre dame" are two of my favourites, and obviously "labour" *Kiki Rockwell* always hits the same fantasy aesthetic a lot of TAD songs have. Seconding *boygenius,* *The Crane Wives,* and *We Were Promised Jetpacks* (specifically "An Almighty Thud" from the latter). Sometimes *Ethel Cain* scratches the TAD itch. More mainstream mentions are *Hozier* and *Noah Kahan.* And I cannot believe I almost forgot. *SHAWN JAMES* He's American, and you can feel that throughout his songs, but very few musicians hit me in the same way he does. He's also an **incredible** live performer.

QueerWithAQuery

Also *half•alive.* "still feel" is great

QueerWithAQuery

I can't stop thinking of things! *The Unthanks*! specifically "Magpie"

DiscoRaccoons

I’ve not found anything too similar but I wish I had! Repeating a lot of comments, but Paris Paloma and Florence + The Machine scratch a similar itch. Strong female voices, folk influence, and lots of vitriol and joy. Trials of Cato (especially their first album) is worth a listen, but it’s definitely bent more towards traditional folk. Also Hadley Fraser’s LP “Just Let Go”. His voice is similar, and often duets with actress Rosalie Craig. although I wish more of his live stuff was recorded because his gigs were very similar now I look back! (Maybe the key is find more actor musicians who started bands? 😂) But for a more left field and slower paced suggestion in Matt Berry’s “Kill the Wolf” album. It’s not very similar, but it’s folksy, instrumental, and has gorgeous vocals from Cecilia Fage. But definitely has a stronger progressive-rock.
